I'm not a fan of Beyoncé. Neither do I dislike her. I am just not familiar enough with her to have much of an opinion. The first time she ever made an impression on me and I thought gee she can really actually sing was when I came across her playing the part of Etta James in a movie whose title escapes me. That was very good. The only other time that made an impression on me was a few years ago and she appeared on a country music awards show. There was a lot of howling and gnashing of teeth and protesting that she was not country. Maybe she wasn't really country, but also the music being honored was not country music to my ears. What I can say is that she put on a great performance. What more could be expected? She certainly wasn't going to do her version of a Hank Williams classic.

I can see that viewpoint, jeff3. Usually I do not like these talking head documentaries, but this one was better done that most, in my inestimable opinion. The commentary footage I can agree. I would never have compared Linda to Beyoncé. The Emmylou commentary was most interesting and on target. But with a Linda documentary, there is not much you can do except patch together old footage. I would have liked to have seen Jimmy Webb and a performance of one of his songs represented. And of course a true documentary would have had the rise and fall of a career.. this ended with Linda still on top with a multiplatinum album.
But still, I enjoyed the documentary. I did not watch it on CNN as I figured they might delete parts and of course the commercials.

A biopic may not happen in the very near future, but I think it is inevitable. But I'm still waiting for biopics of Tiny Tim and Skeeter Davis.

Dennis James was in the area last year playing his glass instruments. Here is a news story about the appearance which is so well-written that it never identifies him or his cohort: musiciansthat's spelled theremin!

Well, I think it is obvious that the true "reason for the season" is to boost the annual economy. Everything else is just window dressing for the annual economic boom. It's a shame that even Xmas gets politicized.

I'm sorry. You can't say "Merry Christmas" anymore. I doubt there is anyone here who has ever been attacked for saying Merry Christmas. I have, however, been lambasted (once) for using the phrase Happy Holidays. So now I confuse them with Happy HolyDays. This was a fine general Merry Christmas thread. Why'd you have to bring up this nonsense?

I'm a fan of both Linda and Kinky. She has made many great albums. He has made a lot of mediocre albums. I didn't see the point of reviewing these two together. They have nothing in common.

Is Bad Guy a good song? I hear it praised all the time but when I hear it all I detect is some mumbling. I try to listen but I can't zero in on anything.

I can't call myself a "fan" of Carrie Underwood (certainly I don't despise her thought), but she did a great job on Different Drum at the RRHoF. And I thought she did well on When Will I Be Loved at the Kennedy Center Honors. I did not like that arrangement of Blue Bayou, and probably would have preferred Trisha Yearwood, who does the song already in her concerts.
If anyone wants a copy of the Kennedy Center Honors to keep, email me and I'll send you a download link. Let me know if you want the entire show or just the Linda Ronstadt portion.

I'm watching Kathy Griffin: A Hell of a Story, included free on Amazon Prime Video.
I noticed that Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice is also available on Amazon Prime Video, not free but $3.99 for an HD rental is a good price.

I received the Blu-ray disc of Linda Ronstadt The Sound of My Voice yesterday.
I haven't watched the movie again but I did check out some of the extra footage. That included interviews with Karla Bonoff, Andrew Gold, and Waddy Wachtel. Karla was shown in the film, but Andrew Gold did not speak. I thought that was an oversight, as he was an architect of the Linda Ronstadt hit sound.
The disc says it is region A but my player says it is an all-region disc.

I don't recall seeing a Hasten Down the Wind tour book being for sale. I don't recall any merchandise at all. I usually bought merchandise at concerts. (I especially do that now because with the business the way it is today, merchandise is what keeps many of these musicians going.)
Linda Ronstadt had some butt-ugly T-shirts in her day. I remember not buying What's New T-shirt and Dedicated to the One I Love Tour shirt because I just hated abhorred them. And the Canciones T-shirt I did not like.

I wish they would do a deluxe edition of Hasten Down the Wind and include a booklet featuring all the photo outtakes. . . . As I've mentioned before, to me it is her 'Rumours' or 'Hotel California' but I appreciate not everyone has that opinion :-) I gave another listen to this album, as I loved it when it was first released, but my appreciation has waned over the years. I listened to a high-def version that I have on my hard drive, and I heard sounds on the title song that never registered with me before. The album does stand the test of time. My problem was that the album is so downbeat and morose, like What's New. Here's a review from Stereo Review, November 1976 issue. I have the article and review on the website but I am updating them because I prefer the look of the actual magazine pages.

I've been reading a lot of the comments on the news stories on the net. Mostly they are pro-Linda, but some say that she should not have made this political. But did she really?
Pompeo said: “As I travel the world, I wonder. When will I be loved?”
Isn't he the one who made it political with that statement? And using a Ronstadt song as the attention getter. I would expect her to respond.
Pompeo says someone wrote that line for him. But he spoke it. He asked a question, and Linda answered.

Overall, though, I do not like this Peter Reilly character. He totally trashed one of my favorite albums, God Bless Tiny Tim. Then he totally trashed Tiny Tim's 2nd Album. And he keeps mentioning Tiny Tim in other unrelated reviews just to get in another dig. He obviously does not get Tiny Tim- someone else needs to review those albums.
I did find this remark about After the Goldrush album by Neil Young interesting, because I have never been able to listen to that song until Linda Ronstadt released it on her 1995 album Feels Like Home.
Reilly said:
He reviewed several Ronstadt albums- Best of the Month reviews for Linda Ronstadt, Heart Like a Wheel, and Lush Life.
Overall, really enjoying going through these old issues. Makes me remember a lot of music I forgot about, and discovering new music.

After reading the Stone Poneys review from 1967, I was tempted to look up and email this Peter Reilly dude and ask him WTF was he thinking. Then I thought he would be an old codger by now; he may have even already left this earthly veil. So instead, I just kept scanning the issues of Stereo Review. It's hard to believe he is the same guy who wrote the review below of the LP Linda Ronstadt in the May 1972 issue. It's almost like he forgot that earlier review, or maybe he changed his mind. When this album was released, I was a student at Clemson University. My roommate played this album almost every day until I was so tired of hearing it. I did like the album though. My favorite cut was Rescue Me. His least favorite cut was Rescue Me, so he stopped before that song played.
