Since bursting onto the music scene in 1967, Linda Ronstadt has been an icon for more than 50 years. Her extraordinary vocal range and ambition created unforgettable songs across rock, pop, country, folk ballads, American standards, classic Mexican music and soul. As the most popular female recording artist of the 1970s – with songs like “You’re No Good,” “When Will I Be Loved,” and “Blue Bayou”—Ronstadt filled huge arenas and produced an astounding eleven Platinum albums. Ronstadt was the first artist to top the Pop, Country, and R&B charts simultaneously, she won 10 Grammy ® Awards on 26 nominations and attained a level of stardom the Tucson native never could have imagined.
In LINDA RONSTADT: THE SOUND OF MY VOICE, Ronstadt is our guide through her early years of singing Mexican canciones with her family; her folk days with the Stone Poneys; and her reign as the “rock queen” of the ‘70s and early ’80s. She was a pioneer for women in the male-dominated music industry; a passionate advocate for human rights, and had a high-profile romance with California Governor Jerry Brown. Ultimately, her singing voice was stilled by illness and forced her into retirement but her music and influence remain as timeless as ever. With moving performance footage and appearances by friends and collaborators including Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne, LINDA RONSTADT: THE SOUND OF MY VOICE celebrates an artist whose desire to share the music she loved made generations of fans fall in love with her — and the sound of her voice.

James Keach, brother of actor Stacy Keach and former husband of Jane Seymour has had a bright star of his own although he may not be familiar as these connections.
James did the touching documentary on Glen Campbell titled "I'll Be Me."
You probably have a memory of James Keach as an actor. You surely have seen some of his work as a writer or director. But you may not know him as a documentarian until now. The final tour of Glen Campbell after his Alzheimer's diagnosis is a celebration of a life and a sad look at the frailty of human beings. Keach talked about the film and a life in film and TV.

Glen Campbell - I'll Be Me (2015) - I'm Not Gonna Miss You
I think as devoted Linda Ronstadt fans for all these years we need to be prepared for an emotional roller coaster beginning with this new documentary. While we all may have not met personally we are family in "spirit" connected by our love for one very special human being...most of all.

The Glenn Campbell Documentary....I saw it a few months ago on Amazon prime....IS exquisite!!!
what is interesting is Glenn's family were all part and parcel of the making of it,,,from what I saw.....
....in Linda's case...was it just her at certain "points in time" OR were they following her consistently over time, like Glenn???
time will tell...X CITED!!!

I can't help but wonder if the title is culled from Linda's Still Within The Sound of My Voice?

New documentaries about D’Angelo, Woodstock, Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman and Blind Melon’s late lead singer Shannon Hoon are among the music films set to premiere at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival.
The stacked lineup also includes films about Linda Ronstadt, Sublime and late INXS frontman Michael Hutchence. Jared Leto is also set to debut his new film, A Day In the Life of America, a collaborative project filmed in all 50 states over the course of a single July 4th. The Tribeca Film Festival will take place April 24th through May 5th in New York City.
The new D’Angelo documentary, Devil’s Pie, was directed by Carine Bijlsma and follows the famously reclusive musician as he prepares for his comeback tour after receding from the public eye following the massive success of his 2000 LP Voodoo.
Filmmaker Barak Goodman, meanwhile, will debut his new film Woodstock: Three Days That Defined a Generation, a retelling of the Woodstock story on its 50th anniversary from the perspective of people who were on the ground. In The Quiet One, director Oliver Murray will examine the life and career of Bill Wyman through hours of previously unseen footage, personal photographs and other items from the bassist’s archives.
Other artist-centric films include Danny Clinch and Taryn Gould’s All I Can Say, which uses intimate video diaries made by Hoon to conduct both an examination of Nineties culture and a philosophical study of fame. Mystify: Michael Hutchence finds director Richard Lowenstein examining the late INXS singer’s life, while The Sound of My Voice will offer a poignant portrait of Linda Ronstadt (Sheryl Crow will deliver a special tribute performance following the latter film’s premiere).
Among the other music-centric documentaries set to premiere at Tribeca are The Remix: Hip Hop X Fashion, which looks at how rap has influenced and altered the world of high fashion, and Other Music, a profile of the acclaimed New York City record store of the same name, which closed in 2016.
The Tribeca Film Fest lineup will also feature the previously announced documentary, The Apollo, director Roger Ross Williams’ deep dive into the history and inner-workings of the legendary Harlem theater. The film features a slew of archival footage, plus interviews with artists like Pharrell Williams, Smokey Robinson, Patti LaBelle and Jamie Foxx. The festival will also host a special performance from Spinal Tap after a 35th anniversary screening of the groundbreaking rock mockumentary, This Is Spinal Tap. And Ben Stiller will reunite with Reality Bites cast mates Winona Ryder, Ethan Hawke, Janeane Garofalo and Steve Zahn for a special 25th anniversary event.

Wondering if there will be an advance trailer. Also wondering when the public can see this documentary, those who can't make the trip to Tribeca. Will it be shown in theaters others than New York and Los Angeles? Will it be on Netflix or Amazon Prime or Hulu or AXS?

I think the L.A. Times article that mentioned the film said that after its Tribeca showing, it was definitely going to be shown on CNN, since CNN Films helped to co-produce it. But I hope it gets a theatrical release, not just in New York or here in L.A., but all the way around.

CNN will be airing it later in the year. CNN Films has produced some good films including the Notorious RBG, the various decade reviews and tonight's "Tricky Dick". I am sure the Ronstadt film will be super - you folks need to get over your negative nabobs...

Was the Apollo 11 doc in theaters? I hope Linda's is. I didn't know that films made for TV can be in the film festival? Nothing against the movie sub-genre I will call it. I just didn't for some reason. Probably because the number of them made maybe? Did any of the articles give a run time on film's length? I am excited too for this program. I think it great Sheryl continues to honor one of her influences. eddiejinfl

In terms of APOLLO 11, the film is in theaters, in regular format and in IMAX.
In terms of the Linda documentary, I think it will premiere at Tribeca first, and then go (hopefully) to theaters before it ends up on CNN. It is said, at least according to IMDB, to run 95 minutes.
As for Sheryl Crow being there to honor Linda--yes, it is one of those great choices, and solid proof of how well she honors her influences.

But I hope it gets a theatrical release, not just in New York or here in L.A., but all the way around. Most rock documentaries tend to not do well at the box office. And I think the reason for this has to do with rock fans don't like all rock performers. There are a lot of fans of the Eagles, but many of their fans don't like Linda, which is hard to understand as if Linda hadn't been needing a band, there wouldn't have been an Eagles. Linda also has the connection to Jackson Browne and Lowell George and Little Feat, and again, their fans may not be Linda fans necessarily. But, outside of those artists and the other artists Linda is connected to in some way, fans of other rock performers may not be interested in Linda. Still, if it was to get a theatrical release, Linda might gain some new fans. One can only hope.

I am sure the Ronstadt film will be super - you folks need to get over your negative nabobs... It's not about being negative, but hoping the documentary covers more ground than the personal appearances Linda made to promote her book, where the same questions tended to get asked. Linda's book, which was about her musical career, skipped over a good part of that career. Linda's early life was barely mentioned. There could've been so much more but because of the Parkinson's, Linda's memory had to be jogged by her friends in the writing of her book. Linda's memory appears to be good, despite the Parkinson's, and I think the fans at the book tour did her a disservice asking her questions to things that had been covered in her book. If she had appeared close to where I live, the question I would've asked about life and career wasn't in her book. And again, I don't want Linda's life and career left to biographers who tend to miss things or leave things out or insert their opinions as facts. I've read too many biographies like that. I've got high hopes for the documentary, and the main hope is that it does Linda justice. And again, as a fan, that it covers more territory than the book covered, and that it's not just documentary version of the book.

CNN will air this on multiple occasions - far greater audience than theaters. Only caped crusader films and Action movies have any movie theater audience nowadays. In addition I have never heard of an Eagles, Little Feat or Jackson Browne fan not being a fan of Ronstadt. This will also be shown in the top art theaters that show documentaries. Mr. Sliderocker( cool name) this release is cause for celebration. I'm not sure you understand that the majority of film viewing doesn't happen in theaters and hasn't for many many years. Tribeca Film Festival is a very prestigious event as well. Your thinking numbers wise is off base.

Those involved in the production of this documentary are top notch. If you look at some of the videos I posted of their thought process (which is why I posted them) you will see they have a very creative way they go about making films. I would be really surprised if they mimic Linda's book at all. They will go straight to her heart, her life, her talent, her struggle and strengths in my opinion. You have to remember how much of a perfectionist Linda is. She may have had difficulty "letting go" of some control of her story so she must have trusted them to begin with. I only hope they include some family footage of her wonderful mom and dad. The Ronstadt family alone is a great American story in itself.

With regard to the forthcoming documentary, I'm looking forward to watching it when it airs. I'm aware the majority of rock documentaries don't do well at the box office. As I wrote earlier, I believe a good reason for that has to do with the various tastes of the public, especially the part of the public that likes rock music. With regards to the other artists who have been part of Linda's world, if one is a fan of Linda's, one is aware of those artists. You may not have heard of fans of the Eagles, Jackson Browne, Little Feat/Lowell George and others not being a fan of Linda's. I wish I could say I hadn't known fans of those acts who were unaware of Linda's connection to them, or that many of those fans were wrongly dismissive of Linda when informed. Or that some knew about the connection but were dismissive anyway. It doesn't necessarily follow fans of one act will become fans of another act, just because the those artists all happened to be friends. I'm not saying all fans of those acts were not fans of Linda's, mind you, just that some of them were not. I don't think it's possible to put an exact number, but I believe there are more fans of Linda's with those acts than those who are not.

I haven't had much of a chance to watch videos, though I watched the Glen Campbell documentary on CNN when it first aired. With regards to the documentary, I have been saying for some time someone should be making a documentary on Linda, especially for those of us who never got the chance to go to one of her personal appearances for her book. Or were disappointed many of those at Linda's appearances for her book asked the same questions over and over. I wondered if she got bored with the same questions being asked? Likewise, I'm hoping they will go straight to her heart and everything else you mention, including her family life in Tucson , along with any film footage. I don't think they will mimic the book, as that would be like a new book biography on Linda that covered the same ground. And I've ready enough biographies (especially on Elvis) where the same material is covered. All of Linda's personal life and musical life can't be covered in a documentary or in a 500 page biography. Something will be missed, and it's what missed that I'll still want to know after the documentary airs.

Just assuming but since the production crew accompanied her to Mexico recently to film her trip she must be on board with it. I would expect a segment of the documentary to be surrounding that passion in her life which she also shares with Jackson Browne (who also was on the trip). I wouldn't be surprised if Linda agreed to the documentary and finagled a companion documentary about Los Cenzontles as part of the deal. (or not) Sounds like a great deal to me not only for Linda's fans but for the arts community and Latin pride. As devoted fans here I think we latched onto the right person all those decades ago. She is a special woman.
