John Boylan's site says Rhino/WMG is reissuing a 40th Anniversary edition on 9/17/17 of Simple Dreams with three bonus tracks. Whoopee! I am so excited.

Wow. I hope they give this some promo. With 3 bonus tracks, it should sell well. I wonder if they are "new" songs from that session. It was the biggest selling album by a solo artist for the year 1977. Thanks so much Lauren for letting us know. eddiejinnj

I can't seem to find it online anywhere from what I checked. Amazon, Rhino, WMG, and a basic search for 40th anniversary edition of Linda Ronstadt "Simple Dreams". eddiejinnj

I bet Lago Azul and Rambler Gambler are two of the tracks anything else from that record?

I would be disappointed as both have been officially released. I want the bonus tracks to be songs that have never been released. Lauren

The Lago Azul story always puzzled me. I don't think she would want it released as a bonus track after saying it has translation and grammar problems that embarrass her ("a hermaphrodite in a time machine") she later explained that her father did the translating over the phone and she took down the lyrics on a napkin and it wound up being wrong. Knowing what a perfectionist she is in the studio it's hard to believe she didn't have a fluent Spanish speaker around when she did the vocal or at least have someone give it a listen before releasing it as a single internationally. Maybe it's not as bad as she says. I think "Rambler Gambler," "Hearts Against The Wind," and "Border Town" will be the 3 bonus tracks

If I am not mistaken, though, "Border Town" was actually recorded for Living In The USA.

I hope that the "bonus" tracks are not live versions of songs that made the original cut on the album. It wouldn't bother me if "Lago Azul" were one of the bonus songs as long as it was taken from a pristine master recording. Does anyone think she might have recorded "The Shoop Shoop Song (It's in His Kiss") around this time? She seemed to be singing it live a lot during this period.

Why would they have to have bonus tracks that were originally meant for Simple Dreams? Anything new/unheard would be just as good or better.

I agree anything new/unheard would be good but I guess the thinking was/is that there may be more tunes recorded during that session that could be included; best if it is/are one/s we never heard of (vault time lol). I just want it to be a release that people will take notice of and buy and appreciate the biggest selling solo album of 1977 (imo one of the most influential years in music). eddiejinnj

Looking forward to this - will there be vinyl? Often I think Simple Dreams is more important - more gorgeous, if you will than Heart Like a Wheel.

As no one knows at this stage what the three bonus songs will be, it's possible the songs could be unreleased songs no one has heard or even knew about. I'd rather the bonus songs be not-on-album B-sides than concert recordings, but it'd sure be nice if the recordings in question are previously unreleased studio recordings.

Wasn't Like A Falling Star originally recorded for Simple Dreams but didn't make the cut?
or maybe it was for Living In The USA? I think it would fit best with Simple Dreams either way.I have often wondered if Linda ever recorded the Bonoff tune HOME as it was so well suited for her voice and persona. That would be a nice surprise along with this one.

Think "Falling Star" was but not 100% sure. As Karla's vocals at times tended to sound like Linda's, I kept thinking she and Linda were sisters, and that Karla probably should've written as many tunes for Linda as she possibly could. You don't usually get a singer whose singing voice is close to that of another performer, unless they happen to be family members themselves. There's always something that's a little off on the voice, but a lot of times when I heard one of Karla's tunes and didn't know it was her, I thought for sure I was listening to Linda. Maybe they share a common ancestor? Much in the same way I think Linda and Sally Field share a common ancestor. The two of them looked somewhat alike when they were younger and they could've been mistaken for sisters.

More than likely from the same soul group.... .....they say we come in , in groups to grow together....anyways..I recently checked Karla's website and was blown away at the quality of her voice I was always told that the "Industry" promotes voices that are "unique"....so I think Karla's is remarkably similar to Linda.....but Linda is a Mistress at Nuance Think "Falling Star" was but not 100% sure. Good question. It seems like John Boylan has been getting involved in remastering too. A lot of people don't know it but among the acts in John's portfolio are the Little River Band and Boston when both were at their heights. I doubt much would get done in regards to Linda's music and appearances these days without John Boylan. We all owe him big time.

If you go to Great Eastern Music site, there is a link re: Linda right on the home page. It does discuss the 40th anniversary of "Simple Dreams" and to watch this spot (meaning that spot on their site)for further details on the 3 bonus tracks. On the update page it also says that The Trio Box Set continues to sell well and that it was in the Top Ten of Billboard US Country Charts and certified Gold in Australia. eddiejinnj

I wish they would re-master and re-release the CDs that have gone out of print and which are hideously expensive now.

It seems like John Boylan has been getting involved in remastering too.
Yes, Boylan's remastering of Heart Like a Wheel a few years ago was the best version yet. I was listening to it in the car one day and after You Can Close Your Eyes played, it started up with You're No Good. I just figured the CD had started over from the beginning, but the mix sounded so strong and different. The CD had not started over. It was playing one of the bonus cuts- the radio-friendly mono cut of You're No Good. My initial thought was that these mono cuts were unnecessary, but both are definitely worthy bonuses. I have a great idea for a Linda Ronstadt release for the next Record Store Day. I wasn't too keen on the idea of releasing Silk Purse for Record Store Day. I think my idea, if implemented, would definitely be a vinyl Record Store Day sellout. And then a follow-up release two months later on CD. Did anybody buy the recent Varese Sarabande CD or vinyl release of Silk Purse? I won a CD online and bought the vinyl release. I considered the CD release to have a mastering error. I don't know if it's the same on the vinyl as I have not played that, only looked at it. Sorry for rambling!

My vinyl copy came from Criminal Records in Atlanta. It was issued by Varese Sarabande but it has a green Capitol Records label like the one below.

I think those may have been posted on the old forum. Only Tony would have access to that. I am fairly certain I saved them onto my old computer which basically died so I can't get to them either.
I did a google search and a number of different out takes came up but I am not sure if those shown are complete.
