Linda has often said there weren't many unused tracks, but who knows. Yes I'd love three completely new or different versions of what we have. But clean and clear versions of Lago Azul and Rambler Gambler would be fine too.
Did Linda really say that she hated her vocals on Lago Azul?

Quote by robertaxel:
I don't know whether she did or not; but if so, it would seem to be par for the course for her. If I had anything remotely negative to say about Linda, it would be that she never quite fully appreciated the quality of her voice like her fans and her female peers did. Not that she ever would have bragged, but at least she could have gone easier on herself (IMHO).

Minor point.. it was fabtastique who made the quote about Lago Azul. I do agree with your point about Linda being harsh on herself. I was glad when she referred to herself as a 'pretty good singer' at the 92nd St Y a few years ago - and even that was a bit modest.

Hey Tony, I brought up the cd we won because I was wondering if you think that is the copy that has a mastering error. eddiejinnj I only listened to the new Silk Purse CD once. On the original LP, and on the CD versions that were previously released, the song Mental Revenge bleeds right into I'm Leavin' It All Up to You. On this new version, they are distinctly separated with several seconds of silence between them. Not a big deal, but still to me that's an error. Some folks might like the album better this way. Speaking of Silk Purse, which I've always said is one of my Bottom Two Ronstadt albums-- I've been warming up to this album 47 years after I originally bought it. I've probably listened to it three times in the last month on the Alexa device. Maybe in the future I can learn to more better appreciate Living in the USA.

I have heard that (I love the way the songs melded) and it isn't the same separated. eddiejinnj

The Mental Revenge build up into I'm Leaving It All Up To You was a high light of the album.

BTW, where on the Forum can I find the "Simple Dreams" outtake photos? I think those may have been posted on the old forum. Only Tony would have access to that. I am fairly certain I saved them onto my old computer which basically died so I can't get to them either.
I did a google search and a number of different out takes came up but I am not sure if those shown are complete. thank you, ronstadtfanaz. I will try later.

Just saw a posting, from Norway?, looks to have three LIVE cuts Blue Bayou,It's so Easy and Poor Poor Pitiful me. Not exactly earth shattering or rare - stil delighted they are honoring this gorgeous record. Would love live Sorrow Lives Here. I like the sad ones.

Hi, where did you see this posting? What site/publication, etc? I have mixed feelings re: the bonus cuts (I thought there were going to be 2 but 3 better). Of course, we all would want never released songs from the vault but since Linda has few "official" live cuts am curious to see where they were recorded etc. eddiejinnj

Goldie - What's the title of the book that Linda is holding in your signature photo?
Also, does anyone remember what the book was that Linda mentions on her current "talking" tour that was given to her on the same day that she was using the same eye shadow product? Something about music halls with fancy ornamentation that convinced her to change her style to tours away from mega-arenas.

An obvious choice for a Simple Dreams bonus cut would be Lago Azul, since it is the Spanish version of a song on that album. Plus, it has never before been released on CD and to my knowledge is not even available on iTunes. On the other hand, it is at the bottom of the barrel of her Spanish-language performances, so maybe she would want to keep it hid.

Something about music halls with fancy ornamentation that convinced her to change her style to tours away from mega-arenas. I think the book about eye shadow etc. Is "The Vagabond" by Colette. Linda mentions this on page 119 of "Simple Dreams". She received the book as a gift while on tour and discovers it is about a woman in 1910 France whose life parallels Linda's own. She says that the book helped inspire her to get out of arenas and into more intimate settings with "Angels" and a "proscenium stage".

I think that they should use "Lago Azul". I know it is hard to be objective re: Linda's work but the bottom of Linda's barrel is still wonderful lol!!!! I know the comment was not meant badly but it seems to reflect Linda's ideas about the song. I think she seemed to take the criticism of the translation phrasing that some had (though there is always a critic or two around no matter what one does) and I am guessing to heart because maybe it was special for her to do it in Spanish. I never heard her comments on the Spanish version of "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" if she said any publicly.

It's funny about Lago Azul - I think I'd rather have a great earlier live version of Blue Bayou where she slips into Spanish at the end. Seeing her do that live a number of times was really powerful.

I just found her singing on that song to be stilted, hesitant, and tentative compared to later Spanish-language recordings where she had more time to perfect her technique. It would be an obvious bonus cut for this release.

They putting the Mad Love HBO Special on audio in various forms as the bonuses. BB and PPPM I remember being incredible but the arrangement of ISE wasn't as good as the record. eddiejinnj

Given that the maximum time allotted for a CD is 80 minutes, and that Simple Dreams as an album isn't much more than 30 minutes long, it would be nice if we had a bit more (okay, much more) than only the live 1980 versions of "Blue Bayou", "It's So Easy" and "Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me", though they do add that dimension of Linda's career that Linda herself was so self-deprecating about. It is known that quite a lot was left off that album, including the traditional folk ballad "Rambler Gambler" (which ended up in early 1980 being the B-side of "How Do I Make You?", and just narrowly missed the Top 40 on the C&W singles chart). And if I remember right, Linda was considering making this album much more slanted towards traditionalist country music before she found out stuff that was slightly more slanted towards harder-edged rock.
As it is, folks, this is a landmark album for Linda, just by looking at it from a chart standpoint: #1 on both the Billboard Top 200 and C&W Album Charts; both "Blue Bayou" and "It's So Easy" were in the Top Five at the same time (no other female artist had ever done that before, and it hadn't been done by anyone since April 1964, when it was done by the Beatles); "Blue Bayou" also hit #2 on Billboard's C&W singles chart; "I Never Will Marry" got to #8 on that same chart; and although they were surprisingly smaller hits (#31 and #32 respectively), "Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me" and "Tumbling Dice" became a big part of her "songography" (for lack of a better word). And like so many of her albums, a lot of young girls of that time (Trisha Yearwood, especially), learned a lot about singing from Linda and this album.

Not much for hardcore loyalists. Clearly rarities and live performances(the Fox Theatre 77 cleaned up)would be preferable extras for us. However, the record is an impressive vocal tour de force of the time and perhaps even more important now in the days of autotune. Her instrument was so forward and remarkably played. Few recordings of popular music mix a female voice so outfront. Simple Dreams should be welcome for those rediscovering or coming to Linda anew, while devotees long for more. I'll get the Vinyl.

The HBO Blue Bayou version has the last verse in Spanish - so that will be good to hear in high quality. Is the release date the 15th or the 22nd of September? Rhino is so stingy and I doubt Ronstadt even gives a damn - as she has often said "Let It Be". Will take what we can get.

If that is the version that lands on the reissue it will be worth the price just for that alone. That would be good news.
