He had several songs over the years that I liked, and many that I detested.
I liked: I'm So Happy I Can't Stop Crying Who's That Man I'm Not As Good As I Once Was
I never knew until after reading his obituary what caused the friction between him and the Dixie Chicks. I always thought of him as a centrist patriotic conservative, but apparently he was just a run-of-the-mill asshole. He should have been cancelled, not the Chicks.

Mojo made my Top 10 favorite songs list (only one song per artist): 10 favorite songsOf course I got carried away and expanded my list to 50 songs. I wanted to have enough data so you could create a personality profile of me.

The three publications are not covering the same areas of time. I think Record World and maybe CashBox try to include their statistics up close to December but Billboard measures chart success from October to October. I noticed that Ronstadt Greatest Hits 2, which I think was available for almost 3 months of 1980, was not listed as charting during Billboard's measured time period.
??!

I haven't watched the Grammy Awards yet, or rather sped through them. But I did see someone on the news, a singer whose name I don't even remember, and it said she was nominated as a Best New Artist, and all I could think is "this is what singing is now."
But the Grammys have always been a joke.

The Spector story sounds apocryphal but Rona wasn’t the only one who reported it. This was in The Record (Hackensack NJ) October 18, 1977: “Accompanied by three bodyguards, producer Phil Spector drove up to the backstage area in a long black limousine on the final night and demanded to see Miss Ronstadt. She obliged, leaving her dressing room to talk with him at his car. After a brief but animated conversation, she returned to her dressing room, only to have Spector throw a tantrum and scream to have her back. She again obliged, this time ending the discussion with a curt, "Go back to the zoo." Miss Ronstadt threw a private party after the show with a guest list including Bernie Taupin, Cooper, Glenn Frey, Don Henley, J.D. Souther (who accompanied Linda), Andrew Gold, Louise Goffin (Carole King's daughter), Peter Asher, and Warren Zevon.” Not sure who “Cooper” is, there’s no more information. Alice? Thanks for the reference. I found the paper:

Since Linda is in the Top 5, I assume this book is based on subjective opinion based on your tastes and opinions since Linda would no longer be in the Top 5 based on sales or popularity. So I am interested in seeing who you place ahead of Linda. (snide aside: I sure hope it's not Whitney Houston.) But at any rate I look forward to your book. Keep us posted.

Is anyone else having a problem with the last two posts about the press in 1980? I'm only getting the dates with no content. eg Billboard, October 11, 1980 Cash Box, October 11, 1980 etc..........just the headings Or maybe I'm missing something?? I'm not seeing that. Are you still having an issue? Try pressing the F5 button.

About the 50 minute mark, says he was dating her and shows that pic of her laying on top of him It seems a contact he knew through Linda helped him get financing for his first movie. At least that's what I recall.

I liked when she was singing the song to Reba as a rehearsal but I didn't enjoy the onstage performance. And it's not Ruby's fault, but the song was so abbreviated that I didn't feel that it told a full proper story. Of course since she had less than 2 minutes there was no way to build the song to a proper climax.
