The Grammys are a joke now …. Taylor Swift is vastly overrated IMHO and please don’t get me started on Miley Cyrus !

I haven't watched the Grammy Awards yet, or rather sped through them. But I did see someone on the news, a singer whose name I don't even remember, and it said she was nominated as a Best New Artist, and all I could think is "this is what singing is now."
But the Grammys have always been a joke.

It seems to be a popularity contest rather than rewarding quality and excellence (or talent!).
Barbra Streisand hasn’t won a Grammy in 39 years (excluding the lifetime achievement award) and she’s certainly produced some worthy material in that period.

The following posts on Twitter re: The Grammys made me smile --
Steven Zeitchik: " CBS's relentless promo-ing of Billy Joel is just a shameless way of keeping anyone who grew up with him from leaving the room for even a second and yes I am happy to say it's working very well #Grammys "
Comment:
“Please don’t clap off the set, we have someone you’ll recognize coming up.”

I would guess that some (if not most) of the folks involved probably had to get to The Crypt by canoe, kayak, or speedboat, considering how the streets in downtown Los Angeles were waterlogged by all the heavy rain that moved in during the afternoon (it is still pouring down in torrents here in Southern California as I am writing this).
Not wanting to wallow in the cynicism of others here on the dais, it was good to see Billie Eilish (one of Linda's favorites among the contemporary artists of today) get her wins for "What Was I Made For?" (from Barbie). John Williams won (again?!) in Best Instrumental Composition for "Helena's Theme" (from his score for Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny). Ludwig Goransson won for his score for Oppenheimer. Our own Los Angeles Philharmonic and music director Gustavo Dudamel won for Best Orchestral Performance (for their recording of "Dante" by the British compsoer Thomas Ades). And Joni Mitchell, one of Linda's "besties", got her Grammy for Best Folk Recording for her live performance at the Newport Folk Festival.
Quote by MokiWI:
Yes, Ms. Swift is more than a little full of herself (though she's always been, so who among us is surprised? {rhetorical question]). And don't be surprised if she is in Las Vegas next Sunday for Super Bowl 58, either.
Truth be told, however, even though I will probably never really "like" her music per se, the way she has been attacked in other areas is really quite sickening.

Quote by rick:
No, it is indeed true that, with 32, Queen Bey is the most-awarded artist in history (surpassing Sir Georg Solti in 2021); but none of those awards was for Album of the Year. Unfortunately, Jay-Z was basically implying (if not saying it out loud) that the Grammy voters are racists, which I find to be, let's say, more than a little preposterous. Elvis never got nominated for that award even once during his career (he did win three Grammys, but all were for his Gospel music). Linda herself has been nominated twenty-seven times for Grammys, but only two of them were for Album of the Year (Heart Like A Wheel in 1975, and Trio in 1987); and she lost both times. And all of Solti's awards were in the Classical category (most of them during his twenty-two years as music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from 1969 to 1991).
What still galls me three years later is how Queen Bey's fans reacted to Their Girl losing the Grammy for Best Music Film (Black Is King) to The Sound Of My Voice, even though it was at that Grammy show that she surpassed Solti for most Grammys ever. Jay-Z has an awful lot of d***ed gall to pull out the race card (IMHO).

I enjoyed the Grammys 2024. Only A few of the performers I wasn't familiar with. The big winners, Taylor, Miley and Billie I do enjoy their music. I think they're all unique and talented in their own way. Say what you will about Miley Cyrus but she CAN sing, is beautiful and IMO very funny with lots of personality.. she ain't boring lol. There were plenty of other performances given by veteran artists.. Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs, Fast Car.. I thought Tracy still sounded great. Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder and Annie Lennox.. I did notice some deterioration in Annies vocals during the Lost Artist tribute for Sinead O'Conner. It was also very sentimental watching Joni Mitchell sing Both Sides Now.. I felt that same sense of sadness for Joni when Linda sang with her cousin and nephew at the end of her documentary, The Sound of My Voice..
