Yeah, like "Come On, Eileen". Played ad nauseum. How you doing, GC? You have any snow yet up yonder? Been playing "HSB", the official video on youtube, as it has been on a number of Linda playlist and it just kicks butt. eddiejinnj

Things are okay here. We had two outbreaks in the past year but back to zero cases again and masks are mandatory finally. We had early snow in October but then it got warm again later in the month and it melted. It's still warm for now, but we might get snow again on Sunday. Hope the vaccine will be available soon, but small town plebs like me will probably have a wait a few months longer. Heard this great song on Sirius Bridge today, haven't heard it in years -

Linda did work with them. This second it escapes me as to what song but I am pretty certain she was on at least one album of theirs. I will look it up. It has been pretty mild here but the last two days been a little cold (in the 40's). eddiejinnj

I got my groceries and got in the car and the Sirius '70s station was playing Blue Bayou by Linda Ronstadt. I have never heard them play that before, because it is not on their playlist.
They were having a countdown on favorite songs of the '70s as voted by their listeners. I did not expect Blue Bayou to show up since they never play it but it still ranked at #189. Maybe they can add it to the playlist since it's a confirmed favorite and the '80s station can add Hurt So Bad, How Do I Make You, Somewhere Out There, and Don't Know Much, since no Linda Ronstadt songs are currently on the '80s playlist.
I called in yesterday to again cancel my Sirius and once again they made me an offer I couldn't refuse.

I heard Blue Bayou on Sirius Deep Tracks a few days ago which is strange because the point of that channel is supposed be about playing lesser known songs by well known artists.

Five minutes ago on Sirius Bridge (1/5/21-7:45PM/CST) "It's So Easy" out of a total of 10 minutes in the car (unbelievably one more than laurelcanyonradio.com, which I have been listening to today for much of the workday).

Heard earlier this afternoon on Sirius Bridge (1/23/21-4:15PM/CST) "Tracks of my Tears" out of a total of 10 minutes spent in the car today. Maybe Sirius is coming out of its Linda curse.

What song did they play, 70's? We had Spotify put on the phone (it pulls a lot of data) but did hear Linda quite a bit on the Country rock and Laurel Canyon channels. Blue Bayou, Silver Threads (1969 version), Different Drum, and a couple others, my morning brain, can't recall. eddiejinfl

To my astonishment, I heard the DCN version of Silver Threads in a Home Depot the other day. The first (and only) time I've heard that song outside of my own speakers. It really rocks.

In its third week on AT40, "How Do I Make You?" movies up from #23 to #20, with Casey relating two incidents of some of Linda's fans (or fanatics) going off the reservation to prove their love for her--one involving a guy swimming the width of the Mississippi River, from the Louisiana side to the Mississippi side, and another demolishing his car in front of a hardware store in Tucson--specifically Linda's family's hardware store.
Also, the Dirt Band's "An American Dream", which has Linda on it as a backing vocalist, reaches its peak of #14.

This morning on KOLA 99.9 FM San Bernardino:
Casey Kasem's American Top 40: The 80's
Week ending March 14, 1987.
"Somewhere Out There" reaches its peak of #2, becoming the third of Linda's hits to just miss becoming her second #1 up to that point (the other two being "When Will I Be Loved?" in June 1975; and "Blue Bayou" in December 1977).
The song would be named Song Of The Year at the 1987 Grammys in February 1988.

I heard Blue Bayou on Sirius ‘70s station. In the last 20 years, this is the only time i have heard the song there except a few weeks ago when it was included on a favorite song countdown selected by listeners.
I wonder if Blue Bayou has been put into rotation or if this was a fluke.

I just noticed that Rob had posted a BB chart with American Dream at number 13. Not counting this song, if I tabulate correctly, Linda has 13 songs that hit Top 13 or better on the BB Hot 100 chart. I have called and asked for Linda to be played on radio station/s. I did that a lot around Christmas asking stations to play "River". eddiejinnj

I have asked the Sirius '80s station to play some Linda Ronstadt music because she had 4 big hits during that decade and several smaller hits. So far I've been ignored by that husky-voiced veejay lady. Maybe some of us should email Nina Blackwood nblackwood@siriusxm.com and some of the other radio folks. Perhaps they can't play Linda because they have a pre-approved list curated by influential critic Dave Marsh.
A while ago I heard You're No Good on the '70s channel and I switched to the "Bakersfield Sound" channel. After about 10 minutes I heard a Linda Ronstadt song- I'm Leaving It Up to You, which I suppose does have a Bakersfield sound. Good station directed by Dwight Yoakam.

I enjoyed discovering the Bakersfield Beat channel, so I listened to it while running my errands yesterday. I heard three more Ronstadt songs;
It's So Easy All That You Dream Poor Poor Pitiful Me
Apparently, in addition to the classic Bakersfield Sound, they also play classic Southern California Country Rock. I heard Neil Young, the Byrds, etc.

It seems I've made the Bakersfield Sound my go-to station.
Today I heard Linda warbling:
Willin' Carmelita I'll Be Your Baby Tonight
and background vocals on
Queen of the Silver Dollar

Quote by eddiejinnj:
More or less a rougher California-based approach to the honky-tonk C&W of the late 1940's and 1950's that got transferred to Bakersfield, a blue-collar town that is a 2-hour drive up Interstate 5 from Los Angeles. It has a twangy, kind of steely sound to it, deliberately unpolished from what they did in Nashville. Buck Owens and Merle Haggard were the kingmakers of that particular style for much of the 1960's and into the early 1970's. A lot of that influence seeped into L.A.-based C&W/rock groups like Poco and the Flying Burrito Brothers by 1968=69.
When it comes to Linda, I think the Bakersfield Sound is most evident on two tracks from Hand Sown, Home Grown: "The Only Mama That'll Walk The Line", and "Break My Mind".
