I decided to start this whole Linda On The Radio thing again in its second iteration.
This morning on KOLA 99.9 FM San Bernardino.
Casey Kasem's American Top 40: The 80s.
Week ending May 24, 1980.
Linda's version of "Hurt So Bad moves up three notches from #11 to #8, its peak position (it spends three straight weeks there, and is her last Top 10 solo hit).
Along with:
I CAN'T TELL YOU WHY--The Eagles STOMP--The Brothers Johnson THE SEDUCTION (LOVE THEME FROM "AMERICAN GIGOLO")--James Last CARS--Gary Numan RIDE LIKE THE WIND--Christopher Cross SHOULD'VE NEVER LET YOU GO--Neil and Dara Sedaka WITH YOU I'M BORN AGAIN--Billy Preston and Syreeta Wright DON'T FALL IN LOVE WITH A DREAMER--Kenny Rogers and Kim Carnes BRASS IN POCKET--The Pretenders TRAIN IN VAIN (STAND BY ME)--The Clash
NOTE: The unfortunate thing is that KOLA nixed American Top 40: The 70s on Sunday mornings, just to fit in three more hours of the hits of the 80s, which makes me a little hot under the collar.

I would love to hear "Hurt So Bad" played on the radio these days. It's such a great tune, I'm surprised corporate radio doesn't incorporate it into their playlists.
The only Linda songs I hear on air are Different Drum, Heatwave, and You're No Good. That's it.
Sad...

What's sadder still is that I'm not particularly surprised that corporate radio doesn't incorporate it onto their playlists--or for that matter, anything of Linda's. I know for a fact that you will hardly hear anything of hers here in Los Angeles unless it's some weekend radio special or nostalgic American Top 40 rebroadcast from the distant past--which is inexcusable, given how much she gave of herself while she lived and worked here for the better part of twenty-five years.
Worst of all, in my mind, was that, the very weekend in August 2013 that she told the world she had Parkinson's disease and that it had destroyed her voice, you know what the radio station DJs were talking about on Monday morning? Miley Cyrus and her "twerking" on the VMAs! Linda barely even got mentioned.

Nope. Busted--or if there was, I didn't hear it. The station that does run Casey Kasem's American Top 40 countdowns out here in Southern California, KOLA, ceased to run the 70s, and now only does the 80s on Saturday mornings (from 5-9 AM) and Sunday nights (from 7-11 PM), just so they can fit in another three hours of largely 80s hits on Sunday mornings in the slot where the 70s used to run (7-10 AM). In my opinion, however, after 1982, the Top 40 music of the 1980s just became so staid and formulaic.

thanks!!!! our local station does the 70's 7am-10am on Saturday mornings. I don't believe they have his 80's version on. they just run 80's hits weekends; things like that. they had a movie music weekend recently. am sure they played Linda. I just didn't hear much of the radio that weekend. eddiejinnj

It's not really the radio, but I heard Blue Bayou this afternoon when I ran into the Kroger Supermarket on Hilton Head Island, SC. They have their own music system (as opposed to a public radio station) and I've heard a variety of Linda's music over the past year or so...everything from What's New to Heat Wave to Easy for You to Say!

it's weird how the ears will pick up linda for me. I heard very faint music on the "shop rite" supermarket in-house system and even so low I knew it was pppm. eddiejinnj

This morning on KOLA 99.9 FM San Bernardino:
Casey Kasem's American Top 40: The 80s
Week ending August 2, 1980
Linda's version of "I Can't Let Go" moves up to #32 (it will move up only one more point, to #31, the following week).
Along with: MAKE A LITTLE MAGIC--Nitty Gritty Dirt Band with Nicolette Larson ALL NIGHT LONG--Joe Walsh THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK--Meco LOOKING FOR LOVE--Johnny Lee STAND BY ME--Mickey Gilley TIRED OF TOEIN' THE LINE--Rocky Burnette JOJO--Boz Scaggs GIVE ME THE NIGHT--George Benson BOULEVARD--Jackson Browne IN AMERICA--Charlie Daniels Band
Sidenote: Following "In America" by Charlie The Draft Dodger, Casey played the 15th #1 record of the 1960s, which was, and this is richly ironic in my opinion, "Mr. Custer" by Larry Verne (it reached #1 in October 1960)!

I don't usually listen to the radio in my car, but today I took a trip in my other car where I have to listen to the radio- and I heard Linda several times:
Somewhere Out There When Will I Be Loved It's So Easy Blue Bayou How Do I Make You
They were featuring the music of Linda Ronstadt tonight, said they were playing 10 songs throughout the program, but these are the 5 I heard before the station faded away.

Follow-up to Tony's post: I was listening to the 1960s-70s Rock/Pop/R&G 95.7 FM radio station at my Mom's today from Oregon, Illinois and they had the syndicated show "Rock & Roll's Greatest Hits" with Dick Bartley featuring Linda Ronstadt this weekend. Before Tony's set, they had Different Drum, Heat Wave, The Tracks of My Tears, Back in the USA, and perhaps others. I thought they said they were doing the her Top-12. And they had some great 70s-80s in-between (the songs we hated when we were young as too pop but now...) - Linda's was every 3-5th song. Then I had to go to a car show. www.dickbartley.com/rr_greatest_hits.html

8:00 this morning on WKDQ 99.5 in Evansville, IN the locally produced country oldies show, heard "I can't help it if I'm still in love with you" ( I just realized the title is about as long as the song) This station on Saturday morning is the only place and time you can hear Linda in our enlightened area.

Just returning from the supermarket and switching channels on the car radio, I hear the unmistakable voice of Linda singing one of her Spanish recordings (the voice sounds amazing). WFUV in New York City is the Fordham University station. Next up, I've Got A Crush On You, followed by Prisoner In Disguise and then Willin (honestly, at this point I'm thinking the worst - I mean when was the last time you heard 4 Ronstadt tracks in a row on the radio?). I immediately go to my cell phone internet to see if any news. Nothing. Then the DJ explains that he was thinking about Linda this week and all of her incarnations and what a "great talent" she is. A big sigh of relief followed.

Found a GREAT internet radio site - LaurelCanyonRadio.com - that has Linda about every 2 hours (and many of my other 70s favorites) along with more modern stuff in the same vein. My problem - Windows Media Player no longer shows up on the taskbar when minimized with the songs listed as they are played (you have to open the website to see what is playing). My question - does one of the other selections available from LaurelCanyonRadio.com - Winamp, iTunes, Quicktime, or Real Player, show up on the toolbar when minimized. Many of you are sound player geniuses.

Heard "I can't help it......you" again on WKDQ in Evansville. Must be their monthly thing. Did get an interestin comment from the DJ, Bill Love (I suspect a nom de plume) about the song: that it charted on the country side but not on the pop charts. Wonder if this is true?

But it would be weird if they marked this double-sided success of Linda's as a September thing, since those two songs charted in the first three months (January, February, and March) of 1975.
