I love this live performance. Probably the most beautiful upper range of any singer, that I've ever heard. You can definitely hear the ranchera influence, namely, Lola Beltran on this song.

You can also hear Linda's German influence, namely calling out "orders" during the song.

What a gift that turned out to be. Thanks so much for the personal story that keeps up the intrigue (though to be honest this is not a thread I have followed closely). When Linda sings "I Keep It Hid" there is a reason for that. eddiejinnj

I am sure she probably was uncomfortable since he was so drunk and happy Bonnie was there as a buffer. Like to hear what Bonnie and Linda backed up on. Thanks, Rob, so much for posting them!!!!! Peace eddiejinnj

In 1969, one of the guys in the band Southwind was seeing Linda. Also while she lived in Topanga, she saw a couple of local guys but it was nothing serious.

In looking at the dating (pun intended)in above post, Boylan was not mentioned and I think her relationship with JD went into '73, no? If the Chip thing is true, I wouldn't think it lasted a year and was it an exclusive dating relationship? eddiejinnj

Why Linda Ronstadt Chose Music Over MarriageBy Andrea Reiher heavy.com/entertainment/2019/12/linda-ronstadt-married-husband-music/ Updated Dec 15, 2019 at 12:00pm

Legendary singer Linda Ronstadt is being recognized Sunday (Dec. 15) at the 2019 Kennedy Center Honors. It is a rare public appearance for the singer, who retired in 2009 after Parkinson’s Disease started robbing her of her ability to sing.
Since then, Ronstadt has lived a relatively quiet life as a single mom to Mary and Carlos, her children that she adopted in 1990 and 1994, respectively. Despite several high-profile relationships in the 1970s and 1980s — then-California Gov. Jerry Brown, actor Jim Carrey, director George Lucas — Ronstadt never got married. Here’s why.
Linda Always Thought She Was Too Young

In a recent profile with the New York Times, Ronstadt says she identifies with the subject of her 1967 song “Different Drum,” which is about a woman who cannot be tamed by a man.
“That’s me! I thought I was too young for marriage or anything resembling it,” says Ronstadt. “And I continued to feel that way until I had children of my own. Having children makes you grow up.”
But she does admit that she wishes she could have had a handbook for how to raise kids, telling the Honolulu Advertiser in 2006, “I wish I were better at being a single parent. They don’t have a handbook on how to do it; it would be nice if you could follow the book and have guaranteed results, in developing, creating and maintaining a relationship without mistakes.”
She’s Also Too Headstrong

Ronstadt also says in the same New York Times interview that she “didn’t need somebody else’s opinion about how to raise [her] children.”
“It’s hard enough being with my own opinion,” she says.
Echoing that sentiment to the Washington Post, Ronstadt says, “I have no talent for [marriage]. Not a shred. I don’t like to compromise. If I want a pink sofa and somebody doesn’t want a pink sofa, I’m not going to go for that. I want the pink sofa.”
The Washington Post reveals that Ronstadt did get that pink sofa — it is sitting in her living room, though it has a white slipcover over top.
Linda Thinks People Change Too Much to Stay Married
Linda Ronstadt Kennedy Center Honors Getty Images
In a 1974 interview with Crawdaddy magazine, Ronstadt outlined several reasons why marriages, especially ones based in show business, can never work.
“Relationships are almost impossible. First of all, you have the possibilities of new ones waved in your face every three seconds … And second of all, you’re not around long enough. And also the people you come in contact with are other musicians and everybody’s real competitive.”
She adds, “Relationships just don’t seem to pan out for very long, you know? I mean, I really understand now about Hollywood marriages. I just didn’t understand for the longest time. ‘Why can’t people just get married and stay married? I mean you love somebody and you just stay married.’ It’s just not that way. You’re subjected to so much new information all the time that you just change all the time.”
She also says that it’s just too hard to find someone who checks all the boxes.
“I mean, you meet one guy … he’s real kind but isn’t inspired musically, and then you meet somebody else that’s just so inspired musically that he just takes your breath away, but he’s such a moron, such a maniac that you can’t get along with him,” said Ronstadt at the time, “And then after that, it’s the problem of finding someone that can stand you!”
The 2019 Kennedy Center Honors air Sunday, Dec. 15, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.

Bonnie Raitt more or less said the same thing about marriage in The Sound Of My Voice..

Bonnie Raitt more or less said the same thing about marriage in The Sound Of My Voice.. Had she married, I think she probably would've been the kind who would've stayed married. She was and is a very together person, and thinking about it, maybe the reason she never did was she could never find someone who was as together as she was. Or maybe she did but she needed someone whose life was chaotic? A life long single myself, I've noticed over the years those who are the most like me in terms of personality and attitude, I'm not especially attracted to. And vice versa. There's a lot of truth in the saying opposites attract, which I guess you could say is the yin-yang effect. But, because Linda has kept her personal life private and mostly hidden from the public and maybe even from others who are close to her, what she truly feels privately may not be a true reflection of what she says publicly. What if she considered the fact she never married to have been a personal failure on her part? One can be a very together person and still have a feeling of emptiness, doubts about themselves and regrets for the things they never did. And it may be why Linda keeps her life private. Linda in private is someone we really don't know, just as Elvis in private was someone we didn't really know. And Elvis said, the image of who he was was one thing, who he was as a person was another. And my feeling is Linda is the exact same way.

I used to not believe the Chip Carter affair until I read an interview from Chip Carter done by Bob Short in 2008. It is even available on youtube. It is from 2008, and Chip Carter talks mostly about politics, but near the end, he talks of the fun he had when he was separated from his wife. He said, "so that was kind of difficult(talking about no privacy) but I dated some interesting - - I dated Linda Ronstadt for a year or more. Still see her occasionally, you know we're close friends and I had girlfriends all over the country. I had a blast. I was a single kid at the time." Unless you think he's making it up, but he convinced me. I figure the year was 1977. After the split from Albert Brooks. 1977 could also been the first year she began dating Jerry Brown. Only she and them would really know. The Mick Jagger affair is tough to figure out- Linda has denied it in at least 2 separate interviews. She denied dating Jerry Brown for as long as she could. Who blames her, the press was hounding her at this time. But she also has that quote saying, something like, "If I was married to Jerry Brown, then I couldn't meet Mick Jagger in Mexico". That doesn't mean she did, but the quote is out there in the public. There is a book called "Mick: The Wild Life and Mad Genius of Jagger". By Christopher Anderson. In that book, it is stated that Bianca flew to Ronstadt's ocean-front home, and confronted Mick, "effectively bringing and end to the affair." Anderson doesn't have the best reputation-he has done several unauthorized biographies. Soooooo, what do you think? I believe the Chip Carter affair, I just can't tell on the Mick Jagger. ronstadt.proboards.com/thread/2658/chip-carter-crushes-linda-ronstadt Nice guy. Even more respect for his dad after watching this. Too bad the GOPCONS stole this election too (trading arms for hostages with the enemy to make Carter look bad). Same old same old even today. Linda Ronstadt comment: 1:19:20 Interesting how the secret service gave him one week a year to goof off so he went to Boston where he had a friend with a boat and the week Linda came in he would be left alone once he left the dock. Dated her for a year. I am thinking it was his dad's last year in office as that was his next comment.James Earl "Chip" Carter III, Reflections on Georgia PoliticsRussell Library Oral History 368 subscribers ROGP 036. James Earl "Chip" Carter III interviewed by Bob Short, June 23, 2008.
Carter discusses his life as the son of President Jimmy Carter, from campaigning for his father to establishing free elections in Liberia. Throughout his life, he was active in many of his father's affairs, from the peanut business to political campaigns and the Carter Center. He was also a member of the Plains City Council and the Democratic National Committee.

Interesting about Chip Carter. I guess that newspaper clipping I saw on this thread was bs.. it said Linda and her sister said some not so nice things about him. Probably B.S... Also Chip kind of reminds me of funnyman, the late Garry Shandling.

Richard Norton most definitely had a relationship with Linda Rondstadt in the 70's and lived together for a period. At the time my mother's best friend was a lady by the name of Linda Norton, Richards mum.She lived in the Croydon/ Bayswater area in outer Melbourne, Australia. At one point Richard brought Linda R to stay with her and she remarked how she got to hear Linda R sing in the house and how remarkable her voice was. Richard was a 'salt of the earth' type apparently but famous in the martial arts world. Quite a remarkable story but 100% happened!

Heard Mr. Norton interviewed on a martial arts podcast in 2014ish. My son is a very sweet black belt and played it for me. Norton talked of his work with Bowie, Nicks and some other celebs - very professional. When he was asked about Linda - he paused, he sighed and almost seemed to have to compose himself. "She was a joy, she was special".

The person known as Rick is Richard Norton, who was offered a job doing security on a 1979 U.S. tour with Linda Ronstadt as her personal bodyguard and trainer. I came across Richard Norton's facebook page: Richard Norton's Facebook pageIt appears he has had an illustrious career and is still going strong at 71. He has some other pictures with Linda on his page, as well as Stevie Nicks, Scarlett Johannsen, and lots of recent projects he has worked on.

So do we know for a fact Richard and Linda had a “relationship” beyond a working one/friendship?

I don't know. Genevieve Schorr has a 2-part interview with him on her Facebook page. I haven't found Part 1 yet so I have not listened to Part 2.
He also looked very chummy with Stevie Nicks in their photos together.

I listened to part two last week. He gave no hint of a romantic relationship at all. I missed part one and asked Genevieve about viewing part one after the fact and she said it got accidentally erased and she can't get it back. I listened to the Carlene Carter one today. It was good but I didn't learn anything I didn't know already.
