Even my latest post doesn’t make sense because words have been changed by someone. Bottom line: was “h*te” on a list of words that couldn’t be used? So if someone said “I h*te disco” it would be altered to “I det*st disco.” I’ll wait for an explanation, but this seems pretty “fu**ed” up to me.

Why at this "time"? The nominees come from a 70 person committee and public input. The president has generally attended this event since it considered a great honor but nominees are not based on their political affiliation. If they were then the arts are compromised. Just like we have discussed re: the RRHofShame. eddiejinnj The president hasn’t been to a single Kennedy Center Honors since taking offices. No one in the arts community wants him there... he won’t show up!

We have to hear about Trump and politics every day, it would be nice to have one politics free day to just have fun and enjoy the music and movies. LL Cool J is a good pick for host. He hosted the Grammys for 5 years and he's good on NCIS: Los Angeles.

Yes indeed. Now we can get back to the more important stuff...like speculating who will be there to salute Linda.

Smokey Robinson would also be a good choice to salute Linda.

When honouring Linda Ronstadt videos of her amazing performances should have been shown to honour HER!!!! Other singers renditions of the songs she made famous doesn’t honour HER!!!! Sally Field was happy to watch all of her movies and enjoy the memories of HER life and work !! She and her work were truly honoured!!! She didn’t have to sit and watch other actresses playing her???Hello???!

Good point. They could have showed at least one full performance. Others would have their own favorites but this would have been mine:

In all good honesty, while I agree they might have shown more of Linda's performances on the screen, it was important to have others show up to honor her, to make clear to those who may have forgotten her (which I think includes way too many radio station programmers) that Linda, even in forced retirement, is still quite a big deal with her peers. I'm perfectly happy with the way they pulled it off.

A friend who has watched on YouTube said there are comments from people who were underwhelmed by the performances. I think their issue is with the format of the KC Honors itself. While they may show clips of a performance by Linda or Cher, the ceremony is based on lining up performers to pay tribute to the artist. Michael Tilson Thomas wasn’t on the stage conducting, another conductor was. My friend David said these people are expecting other singers to turn in performances that equal Linda’s — that’s a tall order. (I don’t know why this isn’t with the KCH thread for Linda.)

I agree with you. I posted the following comment on the night of the broadcast:
"I may have missed a bit of the beginning but from what I saw, it was beautiful. Seeing Linda moved to tears was very touching because it was the first time I ever saw her show such emotion. I thought they could have done a better job showing vintage footage (maybe live Back in the USA with Chuck Berry or live Desperado with the Eagles) but I won't complain. Bravo Linda!"
I think the folks who produced the Linda segment were not very familiar with her work and certainly not fans. They just know her name. If I had produced this segment I would have included parts of several incredible live performances which can be found on youtube. The clips shown were brief and not her best. Linda's live Living In The USA at Chuck Berry's 60th BD, Love Has No Pride at Folsom Prison, Desperado at Folsom Prison or with the Eagles, The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress live with Jimmy Webb. You're No Good at Balboa Stadium I could go on. Glad she got the deserved recognition but they could have done a better job. Just sayin.

Or quality clips to highlight all of her many genres or special project collaborations with: Phillip Glass Song For Liquid Days, Paul Simon Graceland, the Trio performances, Pirates of Penzance, Prayer Cycle, Randy Newman Faust, Neil Young, etc. So much more from which to choose.

I haven’t watched many of these KCH shows but I watched the Streisand one and most of the performances on that were dreadful .... not a patch on the original!
I guess it’s the same with Linda’s (but I’ve not had the chance to watch it yet....) - as fans we think other performers can’t come close to Linda !!

Or they should do a different take on the material the way Annie Lennox or Sia do on covers. Was it Sheryl Crow who said "you have to be crazy to attempt a Linda Ronstadt cover?" Streisand would be another one NOT to attempt. Probably a few others.

Then there are a lot of female singers out there, Sheryl herself included, that are arguably Certifiable (LOL).
In all good honesty (and over the years I've come to realize this), it is simply not possible or reasonable to think that any female singer is ever going to equal Linda as a vocalist, both in terms of the styles she essayed and in how she essayed them. This is just my opinion, but that there are so many female singers out there who clearly love and appreciate what Linda has done is a testament to the impact that Linda still has. For that reason, the KCH segment for Linda is priceless; and if Linda is happy with it (as she certainly appeared in the moment), that's all I could ever ask for.

Even if this is belated as hell...
Trisha sent her compliments via Twitter to the women of Flor de Toloache for being part of the tribute to Linda:
You ladies were unbelievable! So honored to be a part of this with you! @flordetoloache #LindaRonstadt @kencen
...and here's the NYC mariachi quartet's response:
Thank you so much!! You and @aaronneville singing to together, for Linda, was so sweet! 😭❤️ And you killed it on You’re no Good! Wow woman!

I think it was "classique" that the women had to choir up to give Linda Props!!! they all are humble...no one can truly "cover" her...she was never a cover artist herself,,,she was an artist that took the palette of a song, added her own colors /interpretation/arrangement, you name it , it was her ART
so....i think anybody that listens to the Choir....are gonna figure out to go find the Preacher(Ess)
