Sadly I have to agree with Bonnie Raitts comment. I really think she wasn’t diminishing Linda’s talent but stating a sad fact for women particularly in their day and age. I saw an interview with one of my all time favorites,Debbie Harry. The interviewer asked her about her looks and if that was the reason for blondes extreme success and she answered that yes her looks did propel them and she knew she wasn’t taken as seriously because of her looks. Agree with me or not but that girl could sing and rock it, not to mention she and Chris stein wrote great songs. But looks were both her asset and downside

Exceptional talent is helpful but persistence and perseverance goes a long way. A lot of talented people just give up before they shine.

I do agree. Stunning looking performers looks can become the main focus of the person by society and override their talent.

I've seen them perform live, they are really good. They mentioned Linda a couple of times during the performance that I saw and what an influence she has been on their music.

everyone....esp when the hormones are flaring....i.e. raging....are going to focus overtly on the visual......its biology to breed and prop the species!!hahah
what i am focusing on is the loss of the aural.....we just are closing down our sense of hearing it seems.....no time to listen...to focus...to really hear another....we are visually based
yet the eye misses so much of the visual spectrum itself....and supposedly the ear...picks up more across the aural spectrum...the sense seems to be in the early stages of dying out......sad

I really hope they get some Rock and Roll dudes up there for Linda. Keith, Mick, Neil Young, Los Lobos, ...of course they are to going to have some Americana/Country girls. Maybe Steve Martin, Jim Carrey, Albert Brooks and Bill Murray(lol).

How about a spoof brief video from George Lucas based on a Philip K. Dick scene with the character he based on Linda Ronstadt?

I certainly hope some consideration will be given to inviting First Aid Kit to perform at the Kennedy Center Honors. Linda has recently raved about this McGarrigle-like, Swedish sister duo who sing like angels and seem to have a better feel for American country-rock than most Americans. They brought Emmylou Harris to tears when they performed their song “Emmylou” before her at the Polar Music Prize. (I love the lines: “I’ll be your Emmylou and I’ll be your June. You’ll be my Gram and my Johnny too.”) Check it out on YouTube. That’s the King of Sweden sitting next to Emmy.
First Aid Kit also brought Patti Smith to tears when they performed her own “Dancing Barefoot” in Stockholm. It’s all on YouTube. They would do justice to so many of Linda’s songs!

Interesting that Gaby Moreno is performing at the Kennedy Center on December 6th and Ann Hampton Calloway will be presenting her Linda Ronstadt tribute show there on December 5th. Maybe they will be participating in the actual tribute later that week? I've seen them both perform and they are each pretty spectacular singers.

The Kennedy Center medallions will be presented December 7, the actual event is December 8, and CBS will be broadcasting the show on December 15.
Although the event is apparently one of those “invitation only” deals, I understand people may have a chance of getting a seat by sending an email to honors@kennedy-center.org. You may have to jump through a lot of hoops and fork over some cash to get in, but it seems the general public tries to get invitations every year. I suppose as the date approaches the folks in charge want to be sure to fill empty seats, attract a well-dressed crowd and get some donations while they’re at it. I heard they usually send a blast email at some point to all the people who contacted them outlining what, if anything, they still have to do to get in. Perhaps fans in the Washington, DC area will have more info. That’s really all I know. But can you imagine being in that audience the time Aretha Franklin performed for Carole King?!? I sure would have jumped through a lot of hoops to be there for that!
As far as Linda is concerned, I understand Emmylou Harris is performing in DC on the 15th so she might be in town to perform for Linda. She’s also winding up a tour right now with Jackson Browne, Patty Griffin and others, so maybe they might show up for one last get-together. Dolly Parton’s schedule is completely insane (she has a million shows, records, appearances all going at the same time), so who knows if she’ll make it. J. D. Souther’s on tour, but it looks like he’s free in early December. And the Eagles are kicking off a major tour in February with Vince Gill, so it wouldn’t surprise me if they used this venue to promote their tour while, at the same time, honoring Linda. I suppose info on the special guests will leak out soon. In the meantime, I just hope Linda gets the A-list crowd she deserves!

One other act that could honor Linda, just in case Dolly and Emmylou are unavailable to perform, would be I'm With Her--to wit, the female ultra-folk roots trio of Sara Watkins, Sarah Jarosz, and Aoife O'Donovan. The three of them are about as close to The Trio, spiritually and musically, as I can think of.

Watch Trump decide he wants to attend. Do you think Linda would still appear?

Trump will never show up. Linda hates him. Sally Field hates him. Oscar the Grouch hates him. He won’t show his face.

He'll probably "tweet" about it when it airs on December 15...if he even watches it. But personally, I don't give a s*** if he does; and I don't think anyone else here should either.

Linda's right, he doesn't know (or care) about art, he knows about money..he'll only tweet if he's mentioned in a negative way during the ceremony and he'll probably mess it up . the oblivious dolt that he is... "Linda Ronstadt," is an over rated actress and I never liked Different Drum by Sally Field .

Perhaps you should talk to your leader? Eddie in NJ. Have you seen his tweets? Do you reprimand him too for hateful comments? Or does that only apply to the other side of the isle? huh??

Well, who in their right mind "loves" Donald Trump? I think you've got it ....." right mind(set)" ... That's where the real problem lies. I guess we will know soon enough. I don't think he has commented on any of them in the past and don't recall Linda's music at any rallys so I think she is safe. I hope it makes it to youtube.

Truth be told, when it comes to the Kennedy Center Honors, Trump, because he won't show up, and regardless of whether or not he tweets about it (that's anybody's guess), is so monumentally unimportant, regardless of the fact that he is allegedly the President of the United States.
Now let's back to speculating who will show up to actually honor Linda, instead of worrying about the mango-headed schmuck shall we?

Then what? Could be a priceless moment. I am wondering if Dolly Parton wouldn't be one of the people to honor Linda as she looms rather large in the entertainment industry more than most realize. An opera star would be nice. And how about George Lucas, Jim Carrey or Jerry Brown? The 3 of them could do a skit together.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Nancy Pelosi honoring Linda from the stage. I’m pretty sure Linda lives in the 12th California district that Nancy Pelosi represents. Would be another great way to stick it to the current White House occupant. Come to think of it, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Barack Obama there. He’s already confessed to having a little crush on Linda when he presented her with the National Medal of Arts Award. May be a little too political in these sad, polarized times, but I’m sure Linda would be thrilled
For some reason, I’m also picturing Jackson Browne on stage singing “Linda Paloma.” I know the song’s not about our Linda (or at least I think it isn’t), but I can see Jackson with a marachi band accompaniment leading into some Mexican dance number as white doves fly around the Kennedy Center — sort of the same way Linda had doves at the conclusion of her PBS “Canciones de Mi Padre” concert.
Seeing Emmylou and Dolly on stage with Linda’s niece Mindy to do a Trio medley would be a real show stopper too!

It's a shame we're so politically divided that we cringe at the thought of Trump attending, much less speaking at an event that is legitimately devoted to the Arts. It's better for everyone (including them) when Presidents can switch off the nasty Politics of the day, and Honor the Artists who add a little welcome "spice" to our lives in the midst of it all. Sadly, I don't see that happening this year. Obama definitely had a sense of humor:
This Kennedy Center for Led Zeppelin is the perfect model for all Honors. Jack Black is hilarious, that "House" band was $$$, Diversity was the norm. The Stars rocked said house, especially Heart doing Stairway. Such a climactic, emotional ending (for me and Robert Plant anyway). I am sooo looking forward to Linda's, and I hope she can attend--even if Trump is there. Because it's all about her this time.
And I still love ya eddiejinnj
