AGREED!!!...totally....its human nature and our ears!
We naturally "compare" one female vocal to the original and it will ALWAYS fall short (hahah...i do my stuff anonymously to practice craft....never publicly!! only guy songs!)
It should either be someone of ICON status like K>D. or male(s)
IMHO.....
Don Henley. Aaron Neville & Jackson Browne. Because you know what? Watching Carrie, Emmy, Bonnie, Sheryl and Stevie just didn’t do it for me. And I actually like them all. But They needed that many admirable legends singing together to attempt a composite Ronstadt. And it fell short IMO. Doing an all male supergroup would not invite the same level of unfortunate comparison. Henley singing Blue Bayou is absolutely right. He sang on hers in the first place. Aaron singing Ooh Baby Baby and Jackson doing Poor Poor Pitiful Me. It would be perfect. Add in Placido Domingo and Danny Valdez and call it a night. My 2 cents.

Who be this? "Tift" I don't doubt that we need the heavy hitters for this tribute; but it isn't necessary to overload on them either. Robert would probably agree with me on this, that this female artist, whom we've been yakking about now for seventeen years, would be right:

David Lee Roth and Eddies VERSION is STELLAR
JUST like Linda! they TOTALLY made it their OWN, including the vocal stylings, Eddie is my partner's guitar hero, and he is quite stellar, so I really look forward to recording the Van Halen version again soon!! Yeah!
SERIOUSLY, I think only ADELE or K.D. should do a Linda song, but first I think it should be a quality male vocal INSTEAD,,,,,,but WHO??
STEVE PERRY!!!!! why KNOT??!!!
THIS!! is a puuurrr fect song, imho, for Steve to sing!!! I'm gonna send it to him now!
Canadian singer Terri Clark sang Poor Poor Pitiful Me in 1996, it was pretty good. I didn't find Whitney's version of I will always love you better than Linda's. I found she was showing off and it lacked the emotion of Linda's version. Anne Murray sang Just One Look in 1974 but it was just okay. Van Halen sang You're No Good in 1979, it was good if you like heavier rock.

I try to go to Karla Bonoff's concerts whenever she's near. I find her versions of her own songs that Linda covered just as good as Linda's. How about other songwriters of Linda's songs. Elvis Costello could get back in our good graces, perhaps Jimmy Webb, etc. Having the original songwriters do their own songs that Linda covered would make a tribute to Linda's interpretations. And would avoid the mistake of trying to find someone who sounded like Linda (but not).

Another great idea seeing as how Linda has been lauded in the past for her song picking abilities and giving notoriety to songwriters. I like the Elvis Costello idea even though I am not a fan. He should sing Alison.

There is NEVER anyone else to blame on here. It is all in print on here. SOOOOOO one-sided and insulting!!!! If you do not like me for my political affiliation (you lump all Republicans together and that personally insults me) just like my sexual orientation it is wrong. How dare you!!!! Anybody that supposedly responds to my posts do not address what I bring up in general. There is no talk of inclusiveness!!!! BLAME BLAME BLAME BULLY Never heard anything from me or anybody else the 8 yrs prior to 2016 against Obama. Not one!!!!! This is (maybe was) a place for fun, camaraderie, education, sharing information on the World's Greatest singer!!!!! eddiejinnj The Kennedy honor is great for Linda. I wish Trump wasn't even part of this conversation. We have the War Room for politics. You, Erik and Bob have been such a big part of what makes this forum so terrific. I totally respect your politics. I am not a fan of Trump, but that doesn't change my thoughts on how I view people. I for one hope you continue to be active in this group. As for politics, I'm of the mind we haven't had a truly honest person in the white house since Jimmy Carter ....and see what they did to him, even his own party. Politics stinks and music is beautiful. We have the knowledge that we are the true fans of the greatest voice and singer since the advent of recorded music. Kev

I'm thinking Bonnie Raitt will be part of the tribute...

You practically have to have Bonnie anyway; and I wouldn't at all mind to have k.d. lang there either.
I guess I'm not one who thinks that those honoring Linda absolutely need to be iconic themselves, which is a reason I went with Tift and Lindi. They may not be icons (yet, anyway), but they are very good singers, and they do know a lot about Linda.(IMHO).

actually.......when I think about it.....Karla truely truly,,,has a similar tone and phrasing as LInda..and HER own ICON status for those Linda tunes....qualifies her....
maybe her N Jackson on a tribute duet.....ala Aaron on a folkie tune!
I truly think a Kennedy performance could work some due Karma respect for Karla too!! Y Knawt!
here, this year, she seems to have gotten more power in her vocal, which is very fresh and young;

I would love to have a young artist do some of the presentation. Find one that will cite Linda as an influence. Maybe a Ariana Grande,,

Linda was an influence on k d lang. Linda's friend Bonnie Raitt I would not consider someone that was influenced by Linda early in her career. Maybe later when she tried to apply the Peter Asher magic but unfortunately it didn't work for her. Even though Bonnie Raitt is probably my #2 all-time favorite female singer, she did make a remark about Linda once that irked me. Something to the effect she would have been more popular if she looked like Linda Ronstadt. To me this implied that Linda "made it" on her looks, not her talent. But I would enjoy seeing either of them honor Linda. Placido Domingo would be great too. I wonder what happened to that Placido Domingo album that Linda was supposed to produce. I kinda doubt Ariana Grande was influenced at all by Ronstadt. She's so young, she probably doesn't have any influences farther back than Mariah Carey. But bless her donut-licking heart, if she wants to sing a Linda Ronstadt song, I'm ready to hear it.

That actress/singer on This Is Us seems to have been influenced by Linda. Mandy Moore?

Quote by Partridge:
Yes, there is a noticeable influence of Linda in some of Mandy's stuff, notably on her 2009 album Amanda Leigh. During, I believe, the 2017-2018 season of This Is Us, she also did "Willing" in a style not far removed from Linda's version.

I would love to see someone just nail the shit out of it. Really get it across why Linda clicked. Heart doing "Stairway to Heaven" tribute to Led Zeppelin kind of moment.

How about an All Female Mariachi Band for Linda's tribute?... Flor De Toloache. I bet Linda would love it.. I hope they include Linda's Ranchera songs!

One would hope so. I think they should get one of the two mariachi bands she used in her heyday as I believe they are still around.

I was thinking of Mindy Ronstadt teaming up with one of the mariachi bands Linda used to make her albums, but my guess is they like to use big name/well known performers.

They will need a singer and the lead singer, Shae Fiol from Flor De Toloache has Linda's range.. Probably closest to any current contemporary singer I've heard..Did you listen to the second song in English?

come on...Linda absolutely "made it"...as far as opportunities go...not accomplishments,,but OPPortunities, Linda obviously "made it" because of her gorgeous looks.......without youth and looks, you are just not "commercial"...its an economic fact
would she of "achieved" what she has WITHOUT her work ethic/musicianship and talent,,,,,NO!
