I am not much into sports but back in the 1970's I worked in the residence halls at Arizona State and one of my residents' father was the coach of the LA Lakers and his dad got a nice Living In The USA shirt from Linda for me as she did some concerts in their stadium. For the life of me I cannot remember the kids name or his dad. Thinking it was Jerry something is all I remember. These things always come to me sooner or later...usually at bedtime. As far as something that was Linda's I would love to have copies of family photos. I love that kind of stuff. That and antiques. Something with history attached to it or that someone held dear. Maybe some unreleased music as well.

Card Services, Do what to my Mom? How dare you.
The Basic Pilot Published on Oct 23, 2018 Here is another call I got the other day, (these are people calling me, I don't call them) I decided to mess with this guy a bit until he told me what to do with my credits cards. This agent wanted me to perform an unnatural act on my mom and me with the cards. He should be ashamed of himself!
This is not meant to be-little anyone from making a living, but when they don't respect my wishes, then I don't respect their time and will waste as much of it as I can, so they have less time to bother other people. These people don't care who they go after, so if I can save just one person from them, I'll save job well done Mr. Pilot.

I agree with Erik on this one. Gish was a treasure but sometimes universities have to worry about money, donors and attracting students. I tried to watch the movie several times but just couldn't nor could I watch the remake. That kind of stuff drives me crazy. So much of it (racism) is carried over today but with a different methodology.
Would we do the same with the remake?
The Birth of a Nation - Full Movie - (1915) 1080p HD - The Masterpiece of Racist Cinema
Khalbrae Published on Aug 1, 2015 Ultimately, the Civil War was about States Rights. In this case, the State's right to own people and treat them as less than human. Which is why the Confederate flag evokes so much fear for minorities, which were the frequent target of murder (lynching) that was fully permitted by said States. I generally am for "State's Rights" as a concept, but crazy ideas like that are not tolerable. The shockwaves emancipation sent through the south left lingering tensions. Like the Nazi film "Triumph of the Will", D. W. Griffith has created a work of art that ultimately... openly... promotes evil. This film is one of the reasons for the "lazy, criminal rapist black men" stereotypes that still pervade American popular culture to some degree today. Let's use this as a learning tool to improve racial harmony. Get to the root of the myth.
However, this video is one I am posting in recognition of emancipation day. Upper Canada ended slavery in 1810, this becoming a haven for runaway slaves from the American colonies. Windsor Ontario (the Canadian city south of Detroit) has been celebrating Emancipation day since the 1930's. Known as "The Greatest Freedom Show on Earth".

So basically she was talking about HERSELF going to a show that features a right wing Christian or a Republican and NOT her own show that might have a Republican or right wing Christian in HER audience where she is performing for them? I think "right wing" (conservative) is the key term here. It used to be there were both liberal and conservative Republicans but that is no longer the case and I suppose the same is true of Christians which is still the case. Very interesting.
That makes more sense. And the fact that the conservative casino manager made such a deal about her dedication to Moore to the extent he lied about what happened is unforgivable but predictable. Lies of omission are common. Linda didn't have nice things to say about Vegas and gambling so she was already uncomfortable to go there in the first place. One can go back online and look at those Christian and Republican Forums and those people are so unhinged about everything during that time leading up to the election. I recall their noise machine radio talk was calling her every name in the book. I even called in and wrote some "riot act" letters to those people myself. Linda said her own family was politically divided with her mom being a Republican and she adored her parents. Some of us can relate.
Thanks for clearing that up Tony. It puts a different light on things.

Calling people morons on here is not in good taste and I won't back down on that one. I was not talking about the Michael Moore incident. Like Linda said it was way blown out of proportion. It basically tmk and what I heard was a few grumbling people that left show. Being Vegas there are people who were comped for show perhaps etc so in Vegas and AC not just fans attend shows. Also, I don't think they took a Political/Religious poll of people in lobby. Come on. I believe she said that independent of that incident or perhaps in talking about it later but I don't recall that. You seem to have no problem with whom she chose but you did not address my point of discussing groups that may be attending your concerts. How is she correct re: Evangelicals attending her concerts. What if she said Democrats and Jews there would be outrage and rightly so. I believe wholeheartedly that people have a right to their opinion but to denounce certain groups that may be attending her concerts is just like she said not gracious. It is in this context not gracious. I am a Gay Republican (who believes there should be no parties at all but politics in general means money); how does Linda think of me? I guess she only likes the Gay part of me but I know she would like all of me. I have kept my mouth shut for 15+ yrs on here. To call people (specific people who have done illegal/immoral acts) out is one thing but to denounce entire groups for attending her concerts is just wrong. I have spent a lot of money on 25 concerts to see Linda and tons of money on recordings and to think she would not want me in audience is subjectively insulting. I know she is a Democrat and that didn't stop me from attending her concerts. I believe in taking the high road as much as possible until people prove me wrong and are unethical etc and then I base my opinion on fact. I am a very kind, compassionate, logical, moderate (everything in moderation), don't spend more than you have kind of guy. It is a shame because of hate that you would not want to know me. People that don't want to know me imo are missing out. It is just sad!!!!!! If you believe what brit is saying than I believe there should be more kindness. Like what was said with social media etc we will only continue to see all the variations that are human. eddiejinnj Again, it was a turbulent time from the questionable 2000 election, to a recession, more tax cuts for the wealthy, to ignoring the warnings of 9/11, lying us into two wars, use of GOP servers in the White House with millions of missing emails up to the 2004 election year and a president who said he was on a "crusade," (which has conservative and historic fundamentalist christian implications) etc. All that was focused on one political party and Michael Moore consolidated and exposed it with his popular film Farenheit 9/11 months before another turbulent election with that same president and party running. It was after its release when Linda began to dedicate her usual Desperado finale to Moore. It was a five second dedication and a hysterical conservative casino owner that exploited it and blew it out of proportion.
And it was after that when she was sought after to explain her views in articles. ("This is an election year, and I think we're in desperate trouble and it's time for people to speak up and not pipe down. It's a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is a Republican or fundamentalist Christian. It can cloud my enjoyment. I'd rather not know.") It was also after the Alladin so called incident when Linda asked her audiences if they had seen any good movies lately to audience laughter and she actually took a voice poll of her audience because it was an election year.
My point is there was plenty or reason to target one (R) party, one (R) president and a specific christian group that cheered him on to war months before an important (2004) election. Worse things are said by those two offended groups every day 24/7 by their own vast right wing media but I guess that is ok and not as horrific as a song dedication or feeling uncomfortable during an election year by those like Linda and Liberals who are being demonized and targeted endlessly. And part of that whole period saw a politicized book called Shut Up and Sing by right wing commentator Laura Ingraham and previous comments and controversy from the Dixie Chicks and Barbra as well.
So, you weren't the only one who had reason to feel targeted Eddie. All sides were feeling that way. Linda and others got caught up in that furor. I am sure Linda would love you just as you are (as we all do) but remember there are two sides to every story with many reasons behind it. It was part of the times. And it may be even worse nowadays. But yes, moron may not have been the word of choice outside of the war room but I am only attempting to put things into context as it was so long ago and we don't have the old forum to remind us what was going on at the time.

As a graduate mathematician I can assure Linda that creation is the only sound and complete explanation of the universe and all life on Earth. So she can look forward to repeating her devastating performance with Chuck Berry many more times. I am not sure Linda would want to do a repeat performance lol. Creation and evolution are not necessarily incompatible but I might tend to agree with you as our existence is quite illusory.

I dare say most of Linda's fans were quite proud of her for taking a stand considering what was happening at the time politically. Today, we are still paying for what those groups did and many lives were ruined and lost. Almost 20 years later we are still in perpetual war. She didn't misspeak and she merely called Michael Moore an American hero and dedicated the song Desperado to him at the end of each concert causing the overly sensitive and guilty minded to freak out. Her comments about any groups came out after the Alladin event in an interview. There was enough publicity for people to know that Linda was going to dedicate the last song to Michael Moore to refrain from going. While Linda did say she could have been more gracious in the way she approached the topic she also said that she was proven to be correct. You wouldn't find me at a Ted Nugent concert because I know what to expect.
As a student of history, especially German history Linda was well aware the dangers of not speaking up. Calling the guilty out is actually the patriotic thing to do given our form of government.
Erik's comment was mild but a good place for a more candid comment is:
ronstadt.proboards.com/thread/5199/linda-ronstadt-politics-religion
I think social media will only make things worse especially since it is difficult to separate the truth from fake these days. Much more polarization. Critical thinking skills will be a necessity.

My first almost concert was Woodstock but it was raining so bad that week (Long Island) I decided to work that weekend. Many people turned around as it was just a crowded muddy mess.
I would have to break out my college yearbook for the list but Bee Gees, 5th Dimension, Bloodrock, Pure Prairie League, James Gang, Exile and many others come to mind. It all led up to my second semester Linda Ronstadt Earl Scruggs concert (photo at left) which was an unexpected highlight because that concert was an add on in April 1972. Linda was the opening act and the only person on campus who was really aware who she was would have been me. My dorm room was a shrine to Linda. It was a benefit concert and was the only concert where admission was required ($3.50) so it was like pulling teeth to get my friends to go. After the concert a bunch of people I never knew started showing up at my room to see the shrine. Linda made quite an impression. She was very charismatic in her own shy way and made instant fans. Her popularity was the result of a LOT of hard work but she would never be denied. She earned every bit of her fame and fortune the hard way.

~Gradually We became aware Of a hum in the room An electrical hum in the room It went mmmmmm
We followed it from Corner to corner We pressed our ears Against the walls We crossed diagonals And put our hands on the floor It went mmmmmm
Sometimes it was A murmur Sometimes it was A pulse Sometimes it seemed To disappear But then with a quarter-turn Of the head It would roll around the sofa A nimbus humming cloud Mmmmmm
Maybe it's the hum Of a calm refrigerator Cooling on a big night Maybe it's the hum Of our parents' voices Long ago in a soft light Mmmmmm
Maybe it's the hum Of changing opinion Or a foreign language In prayer Maybe it's the mantra Of the walls and wiring Deep breathing In soft air Mmmmmm~

Besides her rendition of Linda's own songwriting effort "Try Me Again", the track where Trisha sounds the most like her spiritual role model, in my opinion, was the Matraca Berg-penned "They Call It Falling For A Reason" from her 2007 album Heaven, Heartache, And The Power Of Love.

2013 Tony Cicoria is performing his "Lightning-Sonata" at Mozart House in ViennaThe Lightning SonataA man struck by lightning is moved to write a piece of music. Was it divine inspiration?
by Tony Cicoria - Posted on Sep 25, 2014
The concert hall is dark and still, all eyes on the lone figure at the center of the stage. The piano player. I creep up behind him, careful not to disturb the soft plink-plink of the keys. This melody he’s playing...it’s beautiful. Unlike anything I’ve ever heard before.
The closer I get, the more familiar the man becomes. I recognize him. The piano player is me. The music? It’s mine.
The same melody echoed in my head nearly 15 years later as I took my seat at the grand piano in front of hundreds at the Goodrich Theater in Oneonta, New York, my hometown. I could remember the notes as if I’d dreamed them up yesterday.
I had dreamed them up, in the dream that haunted me to this day. As did the literal bolt from the blue that started it all.
It was just an ordinary summer day. Not a cloud in the sky. I’d driven up to a lake in Athens, New York, that morning for my wife’s family reunion. The kids were splashing in the lake and I was grilling up burgers and hot dogs. What could be better?
My medical practice was booming, the family was happy. Life was good.
I slipped away to make a call to my mom on a pay phone by a lakeside pavilion, oblivious of the storm clouds on the horizon. The phone rang six, eight times. The wind kicked up. A woman and her daughter waited behind me.
I was about to hang up when boom! A bolt of lightning struck the pavilion, coursed through the receiver and shocked me square in the face with terrifying force, sending me flying 15 feet.
What happened next is a blur. It sounds nuts, but I was submerged in this hazy blue-white light. Like I’d fallen into a peaceful river. I could sense something overwhelming, powerful but loving. God? I wasn’t sure, but I never wanted to leave.
Fifteen minutes later, though, I awoke to a woman pumping my chest, jolting me back to life. The same woman who’d been standing behind me at the pay phone. She was an ICU nurse.
Three weeks later, I was back at work. My doctors had conducted all the routine neurological exams and concluded I was fine. Only something was off—way off.
I had this strange compulsion to listen to classical piano music. The kind that had put me to sleep as a kid the year my mom forced me to take piano lessons.
“I can’t explain it,” I confided to a doctor friend. “It’s like I crave it.”
This from a guy who’d spent the previous two decades roaring around on a Harley and blasting out the Rolling Stones. I bought a Chopin CD just to test the waters, feeling like an imposter in the classical section of the music store. But as soon as I played it, I was hooked.
I hummed to Chopin in the car, at work, even at the dinner table. When I wasn’t listening to the music, I was thinking about it. Obsessively. I was a practical guy, a doctor, not some New Age hippie who spent his time chasing ooey-ooey feelings from the great unknown.
Was I going crazy? Is that what the bolt of lightning had done?
It only got weirder. A week later, our babysitter stopped by. She was moving and needed a favor. “Dr. Cicoria, I have this old piano,” she said. “I can’t take it with me. Can you keep it for a while? A year, tops?”
As soon as we moved the piano into our house, the dream came—me in a concert hall, performing a sonata I’d somehow composed. Me, who had virtually no musical training.
It jolted me awake, the music still ringing in my head. I could hear whole chunks of it, like someone had downloaded a file directly into my brain. This was getting ridiculous. I buried my head in my pillow, but the notes begged and pleaded to come out.
Enough was enough. I tiptoed downstairs, sat at the creaky piano bench and tried to mimic the melody. The moment I plucked out a few soft notes it hit me. That same powerful sense of love and peace.
The lightning bolt had coursed through my body with a force that should have killed me, but instead, it had left something beautiful behind. That beauty wasn’t meant to stay inside my head. I knew nothing about composing, but I knew exactly what I had to do—follow that music.
That’s how I’d ended up in a real concert hall, after years of piano lessons and practicing into the wee hours of the night to release the music within.
A hush fell over the crowd. I couldn’t stop trembling—until my fingers finally found the keys and the music took over.
When I finished, I took a bow as the audience erupted into thunderous applause. All in response to the piece I’d composed—“The Lightning Sonata.”

I really enjoyed this thread: love Amy Wooley and had forgotton how I loved Jennifer Warnes...but Kate Taylor? Really? I listened for every angle on that one, tone, range, phrasing and--other than taste in songwriters--just can't see. Others have mentioned Rebekah Del Rio...eh, I sort of see it.
I agree. There are shades of Linda in Rebekah...and some Trisha as well.....I've been a fan of hers for quite awhile now.
