If John Boylan is involved in this project now I have more confidence that it will be a better product. Not sure what his involvement would be but I sure hope they use mostly unreleased material with a My Blue Tears type of song from each of the 3 women thrown in and all of this on a single album. Do the anniversary thing with all the extras later.

As I've mentioned in other threads, I'm working my way through Linda's albums in order and I'm up to Trio at the moment. I have to say it's the first album I'm disappointed with. I can see on paper how three very successful female artists releasing one album is going to be genius, for me it isn't, I don't like Dolly Parton's voice and hearing Linda singing backing vocals and her singing lead is just a sin. As for Emmylou Harris, I don't dislike her voice but I can't see myself ever buying her solo material at any point. Dolly Parton has wrote some great songs in her career but her voice on the same songs as Linda, Jessica Simpson or Jewel just boggles the mind. Her voice is thin and very limited in my opinion and she should stick to songwriting and let the singers with the talent sing.

Seems like "sacrilege" - while I haven't always loved Dolly (was TOO country in my younger days - when "Country wasn't cool"), now I appreciate her Americana style (since Country is dead). And she probably has more Country songs to her credit as a songwriter than anyone else alive - male or female.

The title song on White Shoes has always been a favorite (I can relate to the idea of thinking that if I just got that one thing, my life would be better). But what about Elite Hotel? Still my favorite Harris album, and I have them all.

I too loved Luxury Liner and a variety of Dolly songs but I prefer them when they sing with Linda. I just wish rather than one taking lead that they would have done a CSN type of harmony throughout. That sound is perfection. I think Beatles songs would have been perfect for that type of harmony from the Trio.

I've listened to the Trio album a lot now, I've actually grown to like all the songs. (I still wouldn't buy any solo music from Emmylou Harris or Dolly Parton.)
I find the main problem that stops this album from being genius is that Linda's singing is used in the wrong places, it works perfect when Linda is singing lead and if she is singing backing vocals when one of the others is singing lead. I don't think it works too great when Emmylou or Dolly are singing lead and the other one is doing the backing vocals. I find that in 'To Know Him Is To Love Him' Emmylou's voice sounds like it's breaking, I don't know if this is her singing style as I haven't listened to her before. While I love Linda's verse the most on 'Farther Along' I think she should have sang the last verse, Emmylou's voice just sounds to me again like it's breaking when she attempts a high note and it's quite a poor ending to the song, Linda would have ended that song perfectly.
I just feel to make the album genius they could have played to their strength's and Linda's voice is the best hands down. As I said earlier, I do like all the songs so don't feel that I'm criticizing too much.
I think 'Wildflowers' is a beautiful song and I admit that Dolly Parton does sing it great. I also think she sings 'Rosewood Casket' great too. I think 'The Pain Of Loving You' is Emmylou's best lead vocal. The song of the album has to go to 'Telling Me Lies' - Linda's voice can get my eyes welling up and a lump in my throat.

I agree about Farther Along. Dolly starts the song nicely, then Linda follows with a great powerful country vocal. Then Emmylou does her section and it all sounds like a bunch of gobble-de-gook. I really could not understand what she was singing without referencing the lyric sheet.

Telling Me Lies is the highlight of the album for me also... Linda's reading of 'a woman's a fooool for weepin' is one of my favorite Linda moments ever...

Their voices together are sublime, that along with the song choices and packaging make this one of the key recordings in Linda's catalogue as well as in popular American music. This I believe (at the time) was one of the biggest selling country music albums and is cited as revitalising country music in USA (no mean feat) and has to be thought of as groundbreaking and immensely important. Add in Canciones de mi Padre and Linda really has to be considered the most influential and important person in music in the last 100 years.

Add in the 3 Nelson Riddle albums and that's another area of music, hugely popular these days, almost singlehanded my revived by Linda ....

From John Boylan's website: Rhino is also planning a release of a special compilation of material by Linda, Emmylou Harris, and Dolly Parton. According to sources at Rhino, the set will ship "sometime in the second quarter of 2016."

That is a much better job at pacing the releases in my opinion. There needs to be space between not only Linda's repackaged material but also the releases of Harris and Parton's current projects. Sales and interest are most important when it comes to repackaging
...that being said a rerelease of A Merry Little Christmas for beginning of Novemeber 2015 in Ronstadt's intended sequence would make this a special holiday season for me. With a new album package of course! Kosh can do a much better job then the first attempt.

hoping for some news of this soon .... I was going to post this about a month ago (right before Christmas) and in the confusion I forgot: I had "ordered" TrioIII from Amazon around Sept. and for a long time they wouldn't or couldn't enlighten me on the status of the order. At any rate, as I said, about a month ago I got an e-mail from Amazon saying that the order was cancelled and they had no idea when the disc would be available. I suspect they are having the same problem with Rhino that everyone else is. So bottom line, it's any ones guess when or if this will be available. Second quarter '16?

John Boylan's website says "sometime in the second quarter of 2016," so hopefully/maybe April, May, or June?

Keeping my fingers crossed When I Stop Dreaming is included with Linda singing lead. If not I would still like to hear the Trio version of it.
I think it better to concentrate on new unreleased Trio songs as well as pull songs from their individual albums that all three sang on. i.e. My Blue Tears Get KOSH to do the artwork and cover.

still waiting for proper news on the release .... didn't they say 2nd quarter of 2016, so probably April to June unless it gets pushed back again I just heard John Boyle in an interview just posted today in YouTube (it was originally conducted in January 2016). He said the trio release will be in June. As per John these are all songs (never ever released which makes me very excited). He even had one played to the amazement of everyone in the public and in my humble of opinion it was exquisite. Can wait to have the CD in my hands! What a treat. Hugs and kisses to everyone. Sweet dreams

Frustrating it's taking so long but I hope a decent amount of effort is being put into it. Cover and track listing details would be a good teaser ....

Interesting...The track that John Boylan played, "Waltz Across Texas Tonight", is the last track on Emmy's "Wrecking Ball" CD. T
The third Trio CD was supposed to come out in 1994/95, however as we know the CD had to be scrapped due to Dolly Parton's scheduling conflict. Linda and Emmy divided up the tracks of the the third Trio attempt for their solo CD's. The results were many of the tracks on Linda's "Feels Like Home" and Emmy's "Wrecking Ball". Really nice to hear the track in it's original Trio form.

john said it was a world premiere. I guess Emmylou changed the song somewhat like linda did for feels like home. Mike, you are referring to trio II. It was supposed to come out when you said and what occurred is basically what you said but it was trio II which ended up coming out in 1999. a good year for linda and the gals. Linda had 3 Grammy noms for the year 1999 (trio II and western wall) and the trio won for "after the goldrush." The trio III idea, I believe, came about for the 25th anniversary of trio in 2012 but like the others said it has been long in coming and the 30th anniversary is 2017. eddiejinfl

How many "Trio" songs are there out there already that aren't on Trio I and Trio II. I can find:
Mr. Sandman - Emmylou Portraits Disc 2 Palms of Victory - Emmylou Songbird Disc 3 Softly & Tenderly - Emmylou Songbird Disc 3 Sweetheart of the Rodeo - Emmylou Ballad of Sally Rose
I'm sure there are others on Linda's box set and their individual albums (that they didn't strip out Dolly's voice after the contractual squabbling), but I don't have them listed under all three artists in Media Player. Anyone else?

Wait, wait, wait - one more (forgot to turn over printout):
My Blue Tears - Linda Get Closer
I also think it was discussed in an earlier post (sorry).

Speaking of earlier 'Trio' songs, does the 1975 version of 'Apple Jack' on Dolly's show count?
