A video companion would be cool. there are the two music videos To Know Him is To Love Him and Those Memories Of You, plus loads of live performances on Carson, Dolly Show - this would be a dream!

I think they spelled Linda's name wrong: (アーティスト) Admittedly not knowing any Japanese, the characters shown above are the same for Dolly, Linda and Emmylou. Are all three names embedded in the same character set? Language barriers aside, it is encouraging that this is still out there both on Barnes and Noble and Amazon Japan. Maybe this will arrive on schedule after all

I think they should have all the new stuff not released including the ones that were on solo albums (because it wasn't technically released as the Trio) and call it: "Trio III: Rarities from the Vault" or "Trio III: Unearthed" and the idea for a dvd briefly talking history of the Trio and a video or two was great. A new pic could be taken for the cover. eddiejinnj

I haven't heard the "Trio" and "Trio II" albums yet. I've nearly finished the "Get Closer" album and then I'll start "What's New".
I have to admit that even though I think "My Blue Tears" is a beautiful song, I was left disappointed because it wasn't Linda by herself. I don't dislike Emmylou Harris' voice but I wouldn't listen to her solo material but I don't like Dolly Parton's voice. I can see how albums will sell and it looks impressive having three big names working together but Linda's voice is in a different league. Hopefully I will still enjoy the albums (when I get up to them) but I found I was listening to just Linda's voice on "My Blue Tears" to really enjoy it.
I also know I'm probably in a minority here too.

I agree with you, Damien. I don't dislike Emmylou or Dolly but I do not listen to their solo material. I do have Emmylou's Wrecking Ball cd I got used. We do have a few Dolly cd's but we got them used also and my partner if at all listens to them more. eddiejinnj

Quote by Damien re. "My Blue Tears":
I have to admit, whatever qualities "My Blue Tears" may have, it is on the wrong album by virtue of being on Get Closer, and by being the last track on the album.

yeah, erik, if anything they should have at least incorporated it on the first side so the most country-tinged songs were intermingled and do not seem like add ons though well sung etc. eddiejinnj

I loved how, when Linda sang "My Blue Tears" a cappella on the Japan tour in 1979, she used it as a segue into "Poor Poor Pitiful Me". It's an interesting juxtaposition, sort of like [oops, almost typed "a Waring blender" ] "Rivers of Babylon" and "Give One Heart" on Hasten Down the Wind. It isn't jarringly incongruous at all. I've only heard one take of this song coupling posted somewhere on this board or or on You Tube. I'm sure someone has heard this at some point. Did Linda did it on any of her other tours? I think I've only really listened to 3 or 4 of her concerts - 3/4 from the 70s and one from the 90s, either here or on the long-lost Wolfgang's Vault. As an aside, is that the correct name of that website or was there just a very similar site?

She did this on the 1978 summer tour. I saw her in Wheeling, West Virginia on that tour.

She could just as easily have detoured into Blowing Away instead of PPPM. Maybe some fan with the skills may splice the two someday.

Still nothing on this release. It's nearly September! Did anyone buy the 180g vinyl remaster released last year??

I bought the first Trio album on 180 gram vinyl and I love the sound quality. When the album was released in 87 I had stopped bying my music on vinyl and bought a cassette copy and then on CD. I prefer listening to TRIO now on 180 gram vinyl over the CD copy I had. Then again I have been buying most every release I can on 180 gram when it is offered. Albums sound better and I like sitting down and listening to a release while studying the credits.

In another post on this website, someone provided a link of Linda singing When I Stop Dreaming. It is incredibly beautiful and I couldn't help imagining if Dolly and Emmylou were providing harmony how it would be even better. Considering the high quality of the song and the singing, I'm not sure why they didn't decide to use this on the first Trio recording. With the first Trio, I have to say I was disappointed with Linda's song choices. Telling Me Lies was all right, but the Hobo song sounded a bit precious and I've Had Enough was a boring dirge. I also hope that they don't include Softly and Gently Jesus is calling which was featured on one of Emmylou's recordings. Emmylou was okay but Linda murdered the song. Believe me, I love almost everything Linda sings, but she does have a few misses IMO. Regardless of the selection, as long as it's not just a re-release of the first two Trios, I will be in line to buy it when it comes out.

Just my opinion but Telling Me Lies was far more than 'all right'... Linda's vocals are sublime and the lead in to the song where she sings'A woman's a foool for weeping' is one of my favorite Linda moments....

I second the motion on that one. Linda conveys the heartache/heartbreak so beautifully…one of the highlights for me on that collection.

The Pet Shop Boys redid "I've Had Enough" and called it "I Cried for Us." They played it at Kate M's memorial service. Also, with "Telling Me Lies", it was Linda's lead that got on the AC charts in addition to the Country Top Ten. eddiejinnj

I agree with Larry that Linda's songs on the first TRIO album are all a bit morose. Of course, the whole album is not such a cheerful affair. But to me the highlight of the album is Hobo's Meditation. By far the best recording of the song, and Linda gets to show off a side of her voice not often featured.

Quote by Tony:
It seems to me that this is true of quite a few song choices that Linda has made over the length of her career, and not just on Trio. I would be lying to say that I don't think it's a flaw in her (one of the few that she really has); she may love doing such stuff, but it can give people who are not fans of hers the perception that she's nothing but a sad sack (especially if they miss the charcoal-black humor of "Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me").

Linda's vocals are sublime and the lead in to the song where she sings'A woman's a foool for weeping' is one of my favorite Linda moments.... If the song does it for you, that's great. In fact, that's all that really matters in music. I have friends who are musical snobs and think classical music is the only music that matters. My argument back to them is that Loretta Lynn is just as important as Mozart if she can connect with people and matter in their lives through her music. Linda has been the most important musical artist in my life, bar none. But I don't love everything she does. And regardless of the song selection on the new Trio album, if indeed there is one, she will never please everyone. I was just moved by the beauty of that song I heard for the first time today on this web site and it made me wonder how that one could have possibly missed the record. I'm glad you enjoy Telling Me Lies. To me, it's plodding and not special. But I'll bet we agree way more than we disagree about other songs in Linda's career.

I love Trio I, and Softly & Gently .... I'm not so in love with T2. You'll Never be The Sun is lovely though. Really looking forward to the reissue. I contacted Rhino again yesterday who replied with "we have no info on this release, check the website"
frustrating. I hope a little time and money is spent on the packaging to make it worthy!

According to John Boylan on his Great Eastern site, this is now planned for 2016. He said an update will come soon.

They may be pushing the release back so they can tout it as a 30-year anniversary release in 2017. But will people still be buying CDs in 2017? Or 2016 for that matter.

Some of the music in the new release may already be on Emmylou Harris's Boxset SONGBIRD, which Rhino has recently re-released (hope for re-release of Linda's boxset?). I don't have my copy here (perhaps someone has a copy handy), but I THINK Emmy writes something like there lots of gospel music with Linda/Dolly, which Linda was very good at but which Linda strongly disliked (Emmy thought that Linda perhaps felt it was cavorting with the enemy). Perhaps someone can find the exact quote on the liner notes.

Or perhaps: oh shit! I wonder what happens to our orders-guess I'll ck with Amazon. Amazon still says Oct. 16 shipment and the link to the album details is still dead. Who knows what is going on. The above posts makes it pretty clear that the shipping date is now in 2016. Is Amazon going to catch on? The way it's going we may not get the album until after president Trump's inauguration. Yeah-I know-shouldn't even joke about stuff like that!
