I didn't notice that yet. my partner looked at the whole packaging probably more than I. I put it on and went out and did some yardwork and could hear it. great packaging definitely. eddiejinnj

Piel Canela is just so South Beach with it's atmosphere and retro Ricky Ricardo feel. eddiejinnj Exactly, Eddie, and I know you meant that in a good way. As I said, hearing it out of context of the album it really hit me how much fun that song is. It makes me want to be at the Tropicana at a stage-side table enjoying a cocktail and some dancing. Richard, I can just see you dancing with Fred. Thank you, Charlotte, for posting the write-up from The Second Disc blog. Here is the link again Second Disc blog on Linda's Opus Collection at Starbucks Notice the "Comments" section.... 4 Responses ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Zubb September 18, 2014 at 14:16 OK for casual Ronstadt music people who may pick it up on impulse while sipping coffee. We rabid Ronstadt fans and Linda lovers most want to see her Elektra Asylum catalogue from 70s and 80s remastered and reissued on CD and digital. Mark September 18, 2014 at 16:34 Sadly we won’t see her Elektra Asylum catalog remastered for a while. The record company weasels will wait until we lose her to make the maximum amount from the tragedy. They’re no doubt already planning various projects. Ernie September 18, 2014 at 17:51 Agreed! This is a broad and well curated selection from one of the most beguiling, beautiful and pure voices in recorded music history. Ronstadt’s intense clarity is so rare and what a pleasure to hear straight on singing without phoney flourishes. Would someone PLEEZE find it in their hearts to give us a quality live recording. Her voice live, the concert arrangements and great bands were always something special. Lupino September 18, 2014 at 17:31 Reply

That Fred Mertz is a hoofer! After all, he was in vaudeville.
That "comment" from Zubb—I loathe people like that. You know he hasn't a clue as to what the music under discussion is even about. I'll assume his "ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" remark is indicative of brain death.

I have the Mobile Fidelity gold CDs Don't Cry Now, Prisoner In Disguise, Hasten Down The Wind and Simple Dreams. I was hoping Mobile Fidelity would release Living In The U.S.A., Mad Love and Get Closer as gold CDs. It doesn't look like that will happen. I wonder why they stopped after Simple Dreams?

I don't know, Bradley. I also have Don't Cry Now, Prisoner in Disguise, and Simple Dreams (missed out on Hasten) and from what I've gathered they all either sold out or sold well.
It would be great to have the other three you mentioned, too. I was really impressed with MoFi's work on the ones above, especially Don't Cry Now, which sounded better than I've ever heard it. I was also impressed with Prisoner because probably for the first time (or if not the first time, the first time was long enough ago that I forgot!) I noticed the drums on that album. It's a pretty drum-laden record.

I was also impressed with the Mobile Fidelity CDs. I'm always looking for the best sound quality I can find.

I think it is possible that some of Linda's CDs were remastered at some point without its being announced. I'm talking about the Asylum releases, not the audiophile ones. I have two copies of the "Simple Dreams" CD and they could not sound any different. One is extremely muffled sounding, and the other is fine.
Also, no matter what anyone does with "Heart like a Wheel," Linda's voice often sounds a little hoarse. I have the version from "The Best Of Linda Ronstadt - The Capitol Years" and the audiophile remaster, and though the audiophile version sounds better, either it still has some of the hoarseness or the hoarseness is so ingrained in my sense memory that my brain fills it in even when it's not there (I'm sure I've listened to the five-album sequence from "Don't Cry Now" to "Simple Dreams" more than a thousand times each).

This is the best gathering of Ronstadt songs since Greatest Hits Volume II. The producer did his homework (or read her book) , and started the collection with three from Cry a Like a Rainstorm... her favorite album. The next collection of songs are cherry picked from the 1970's. An Ann Savoy duet follows the classics, with a Trio II song from the Carter family. It is difficult to bring in the variety of work she explored in one collection, but the CD does it with the final songs including Blue Bayou, Winter Light (the glass harmonic used in it is hypnotic), an upbeat Cuban song, followed by two Nelson Riddle masterpieces, closing with a jazz number from her second to last album in 2004.
Bravo Starbucks. You have great taste in music and coffee.

Very kewl, sounds like her songs will be added to their in-house music?
I have every album or CD Linda ever made, ripped to mp3's and have built my own custom songlists, so likely won't be buying this one.

welcome belle. I see you have 7 posts but never saw you. I have all her albums/cds also. belle online you can get it more reasonable than at starbucks (ebay). brought that up in case you might want it for the packaging. it was very nicely done. so it is number 65 on Billboard now (first week on chart) or is it in its second week and what is the position? eddiejinnj

They were still playing Linda at Starbucks yesterday, so I guess it's going on for longer than a week.

I haven't seen the CD or heard any of Linda's music since I purchased mine several weeks ago in NY. I'm glad to hear that other places are playing her music on a more consistent basis. A little dose of Linda would sweeten my coffee!

This is the first week on the Top 200 Album Chart. It will be interesting to see how it does as Starbucks has a large audience worldwide. I wonder if the same music gets played in their overseas markets?
What was the peak of her Duets album?

I went back to the Starbucks where I bought my copy in order to buy more as gifts and the staff said they had sold the last one that morning. They even checked the stockroom for me and there were no more there. This is just one store but I hope this bodes well for chart debut ranking. I stayed at the store for a while and not one Linda song was played.

I found it finally. There is no picture of the release listed with the position so you have to look closely. Last week it charted at #65 on Billboard Top 200 and this week it has fallen to #75. Pretty impressive considering it is only being sold through Starbucks. I know someone was selling them on ebay. Last I checked he had one left as of last Friday for $9.95 unopened. I didn't buy it. I got mine from Starbucks paying full price.

I saw it on the chart just moments ago. It was at #64 or 65 the first week- dropped to #75 or #74 the second week, although it was originally reported as #74. If you go to billboard.com and click on BILLBOARD 200, it is reported there. You can also search for "Ronstadt" and it will show you the charted albums.

Yes it charted in its first week 65 and the second week 75. Very respectable for an in store only cd. Linda herself doesn't hype these - and this is her what? Sixth or seventh compilation to chart. I just got the compilation out in Suffolk county Long Island and am glad others are enjoying this very mixed collection. Linda does not seem to have a team of promoters and managers around her like some other singers who are her contemporaries. That is how she seems to like it for the last decade or so. More power to her.

I bought mine from ebay because I don't go into Starbucks. I went once. That was enough. The place was full of wannabe hipsters.

me thinks there needs to be some moderating on this thread. maybe the posters can self-moderate. I do not think it a good idea to categorize people (am not even sure what a hipster is) is it a modern hippie or the baby boomer ones? the other term I won't even get into. eddiejinnj

Quote by eddieinnj:
I think the "hipster" thing was just a little joke; I certainly wouldn't make those kinds of generalizations either--about either Walmart or Starbucks (where I've gone into a combined total of exactly two times in my life, once each).

Yes, quite a good feeling (IMHO).
