I liked Norma Jean, did Waggoner intentionally replace her with Dolly?
Linda could never have been a singing sidekick, or not for very long.

It seems to be solved as far as her birth name. Not to open up a can of worms, maybe, is it possible they made Marie/Maria part of her name at baptism? Is it also possible that she didn't have a middle name and the Marie/Maria is HER confirmation name? eddiejinfl

I guess my favorite Norma Jean song would be I Wouldn't By A Used Car From Him. I think she left of her own accord to raise a family. But she kept on recording for many years.

Well, this settles it. As Dave Edmunds would say, we were both wrong. But there are errors on this birth certificate. What are the errors?

IIRC, Norma Jean left because she wanted to raise a family and do other things. I remember hearing that Dolly had worked with Porter Wagoner on the road from time to time before doing the show starting when she first moved to Nashville. I can't remember when or where I heard that but it was sometime back in the 60s.
BTW, a US senator salary in 1967 was $30,000. Dolly was doing good.

I guess this name thing may never be resolved. My summation:"A Linda by any other name would sing as sweet."

This probably doesn't belong in this thread, but speaking of Dolly and Porter, Dolly has said that she wrote "I Will Always Love You" about Porter. But I felt that the subtext was that Dolly couldn't wait to get out from that situation and be out on her own. It's funny how such an iconic song (Linda, Dolly, and the "ay-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay Will Always Love You" version by Whitney Houston) really came from a need to get out away from Porter Wagoner, no relation to Lyle Waggoner. Re: Dolly's I Will Always Love You, she has claimed Elvis wanted to do the song, which isn't accurate. Elvis had an interest in one of Dolly's songs but it was Coat of Many Colors, which he related to the subject matter. Dolly, however, seemed to have been possessed by the evil spirit of Tony Bennett (no letters please, just kidding) in believing every artist wanted to record I Will Always Love You, which they may have, but I knew some of Elvis's Memphis Mafia guys and the only Dolly song they ever mentioned was Coat of Many Colors. And they were around Elvis. Dolly wasn't. And now, back to our regularly scheduled program!

First off, thanks, Rob, for taking the initiative to find this document. Errors. Not really, but it states the father's "full name" to be Gilbert Ronstadt, but it's not a full name because it doesn't have any of his middle names. Dalton? His obit had Gilbert A. Ronstadt, I think. But I don't think this is something we are going to need to debate for several years. Again, thanks.

I can't imagine "Marie", but can "Maria", unless Linda had a relative who had the former name, say from her distant European relatives. "Linda", given its meaning in Spanish, would have been the one she was called at home I expect.

I guess another option would be to find out if any of her relatives have public pages such as FB, Twitter, etc and ask them about it. Linda does have a FB page herself. My partner only joined FB during the pandemic for the online auctions where we could chat with others and look for treasures. eddiejinfl

There might be a purpose to creating a formal Linda Ronstadt Fan Club.

Maybe she dealt with the Colonel. Not the Moph-eye-a. LOL! She dealt with Parker and he wanted 25% of the music publishing, which she refused to give.Marty Lacker was the first Elvis Memphis Mafia associate to say in 1978 that Elvis wanted to do Coat of Many Colors. Only four of Elvis's friends and Memphis Mafia members were in a position to know what songs Elvis may have been looking at. Besides Marty, the others were Red West (who wrote songs for Elvis), Lamar Fike (liaison between Elvis's music publishing companies and Elvis) and Charlie Hodge (who sang harmony with Elvis on stage and also brought the songs to Elvis's other musicians who were going to be playing the songs in concert). Parker may have wanted I Will Always Love You for Elvis, but Marty said Elvis never expressed an interest in doing the song. Dolly's Coat of Many Colors) was the only song of hers he was interested in. Elvis's rule on the music publishing was if they could get part of the publishing, it was fine but if they couldn't and he still wanted to do the song, not having the publishing was going to stop him from recording the song. But, someone may have sold Parker on the idea of I Will Always Love You as being a good song for Elvis to have done. It may well have been.

It would be nice to be able to chat with Linda or a representative on her behalf to see if she would answer questions. I still believe she supplied uncredited backing vocals on Michael Nesmith's version of Richard Stekol's song Wax Minute. It's only a small part of the song but it sounds similar to the backing vocals Linda did for Andrew Gold on Lonely Boy.

Not really been following this thread but I found this signed photo of Linda in my collection and she has signed it Linda Maria Ronstadt.Hope this helps. The copy of Linda's birth certificate that Arizona's Department of Genealogy posted by Rob had pretty much established Linda's name apparently was just Linda Ronstadt. No Linda Marie or Linda Maria or Maria Linda. Linda may have taken Maria as her Catholic saint's name upon her confirmation in the Catholic church, which again, I believe took place when she was 12. But, the Catholic church could only take the name as part of their ritual. They could not amend her birth certificate and the only ones who could've amended Linda's birth certificate (through the court) was Linda's parents or Linda herself when she became an adult. The church had no legal standing to bring about the name change, although Linda's family priest could've appeared as a witness to have testified as to the name change. As for Linda signing the copy of George Clooney's autograph book Maria Linda Ronstadt with a smiley (nice touch that), maybe Linda had her name changed in 1968 and just never brought it up. And no one ever thought to ask her. Or maybe it was just another of Linda's contradictions? If Linda was the agnostic or atheist she claimed to be, even in 1968, I couldn't see her making a big deal over whether Maria was her first name or Linda was her first name. Linda was just being Linda. Or maybe she was still a practicing Catholic in 1968 and truly believed her name should be Maria Linda. That's the only way it makes sense to me, that she was still a practicing Catholic and maybe always has been a practicing Catholic. Public Linda claims to be an agnostic, atheist or spiritual atheist; private Linda is still a practicing Catholic and never has been a lapsed Catholic or belonged to any other religion. And if she's still a practicing Catholic, Maria Linda makes sense. If she's a spiritual atheist as she's claimed, it doesn't make sense that she would want to be known as Maria Linda. A lot of hyperbole, I admit,

I said I was going to have the last word but I'm not going to make up my own list of maybes.
Maybes don't add anything to the knowledge base. And I doubt we will ever find the path from Linda Ronstadt to Maria Linda Ronstadt to Linda Marie Ronstadt to Linda Maria Ronstadt or any other variations that have been used.
And when I said we were both wrong, really we were all wrong. Even Linda. She answered that her birth certificate name was Linda Maria, so between Tony, Slide, and Linda, none of us know exactly what the hell we're talking about. So maybe the subject should be closed until someone comes up with actual data.

Same with Peter. No middle name. And no certificate at all for brother Michael. And then there is the question of Gilbert's real middle name. A or D?

Gilbert Dalton Ronstadt. Note his mother's 2nd name. www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ronstadt-2Holy Hope Cemetery and Mausoleum is a Catholic cemetery. There is a Ronstadt area I expect. Whatever Linda believes or not, I am sure she will want to be laid to rest with her family. As you get older and frailer, a final resting place where you will meet eternity can become important.

No, Susan is not a Biblical name. None of the scriptures that are on the site you referenced even mention Susan. Susan is not in the Bible. However, there is a St. Susanna (3rd century).

One thing consistent about all 3 birth certificates is the complete lack of middle names for the children and the parents. In fact, maybe the only consistent thing in the whole thread, lol.
