Robin Quivers vs Ronstadf[edit]
Why was this removed "In 1995 on The Tonight Show Ronstadt infamously attacked Howard Stern and his co-host Robin Quivers. The audience booed Ronstadt and cheered Quivers, who defended Stern. "Do you listen to the show, Linda? I think people who listen to the show understand what we're doing," Quivers said. Ronstadt admitted that she hadn't actually listened to the show. [126]" It had a source and in the "view history" said it was innacurate reflection of the source? It clearly sites what's written in the source.
Put back in. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.30.76.235 (talk) 14:52, 13 July 2013 (UTC) Removed as trivial information. Sandcherry (talk) 16:13, 13 July 2013 (UTC)How it is trivial? It was an attack on national TV! Hardly trivial. I want a mutual person to judge this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.30.76.235 (talk) 20:36, 14 July 2013 (UTC)I suggest editor Hullaballoo Wolfowitz as he is both mutual and neutral IMHO. I will contact him. Sandcherry (talk) 23:28, 14 July 2013 (UTC)I don't think I can fairly be called neutral; I removed the same information from the article. However, I don't think there's any case to be made that the content merits inclusion. There's noindication that any reasonable, neutral sources treat the matter as significant - it doesn't appear to be mentioned in any RS's after the initial news cycle. There's certainly no justification for describing it as "infamous." There's no justification for adopting the view that the audience sided with Quivers -- that is supported only by one anonymous wire service piece, not by the majority of accounts. The disputed text also alters Ronstadt's comments, to imply she'd never heard Stern, which is not a fair or reasonable interpretation of what she actually said. Quoting Quivers verbatim at some length while representing Ronstadt only with dismissive paraphrases is an NPOV violation. And the disputed text is selectively phrased, leaving out the underlying controversy -- Stern's ridicule of murdered Latina singer and her fans, which Stern issued a mealy-mouthed apology for, after almost unanimous denunciation. It's a BLP violation for Stern's followers to present the event as reflecting derisively on Ronstadt. Hullaballoo Wolfowitz (talk) 01:38, 15 July 2013 (UTC) As someone who has no particular interest in the subject of this page or in promoting her – indeed it's only on my watchlist at all because I removed some of the hyperbole from the lead a while back – I concur that this brief passing incident is at the trivial end of things compared to most of the content in this section and its inclusion appears to be more about making a partisan point about Stern and belittling anyone who criticises him. If the only third-party source we have recording the incident is a brief snippet from a newswire, that would seem to confirm that assessment. N-HH talk/edits 10:34, 15 July 2013 (UTC) Hmm, hold on - you said that it didn't say Linda admitted she didn't listen, but there's a direct quote in the article saying "Ronstadt said she didn't listen to it and added: "I think you're shilling for him and I think he's taking advantage of you."
You guys can try to wash Linda of any controversy linked to her, fine - but this incredibly bias written article should be checked over.
"its inclusion appears to be more about making a partisan point about Stern and belittling anyone who criticises him" How? It actually happened! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.30.76.235 (talk) 18:19, 15 July 2013 (UTC) No one's disputing that it may have happened, we are disputing its significance and whether it needs to be included in the "personal life" section of an encyclopedic biography (or indeed anywhere in it). As I said, the inclusion of this relatively trivial passing incident here appears designed to score points. It does. N-HH talk/edits 09:20, 16 July 2013 (UTC)I concur with not including this item in this article, because although it appeared in multiple publications, it is only as celebrity gossip, there was no followup significant coverage, and Linda's opinions of other people and what they should do are not relevant. She's a prominent musician who has history as an activist, but not as an opinion leader on celebrities.Only if she has made a habit of criticizing other celebrities for their stances (or non-stances) on issues Ronstadt considers important, and that habit has been documented in multiple independent RS, then this incident could be listed as one of those instances, very briefly, as in ...and was also critical of Robin Quivers on The Tonight Show in 1995 for not supporting women and blacks.(1)(2)(3)Lots of celebrities shoot their mouths off, and it all goes away the next day. That's what happened here. --Lexein (talk) 11:49, 16 July 2013 (UTC)

LOL!!!
Article length[edit]
This is the longest freaking article of a musician I have ever read on Wikipedia. It is ridiculous how long this article is. Some die-hard fan must of written all of this because it is over-the-top in every sense of the word. My browser cannot handle the length of this thing. Someone NEEDS to revamp this whole article entirely. In my opinion, I think someone should just delete it all and start over from scratch. With all of the recent news I'm hearing about Linda Ronstadt, I think now than any other time would appropriate to revamp it. ChrisTofu11961 (talk) 19:31, 7 January 2014 (UTC) Delete it all and start all over? How about no. You want a longer article? Try Madonna (entertainer) (22,000 words vs. 18,000 words). Now then, if you want to revamp it, that's fine as long as you stick to the principles of Wikipedia, one of which is that Wikipedia is not paper. (Another of which is assume good faith; if you had looked at the edit history, you would see that the article is the work of several people, not just one "die-hard fan".) Yes, articles should be kept to a reasonable length to keep them from breaking browsers like yours. This can be done both by splitting out long sections into separate articles and also by eliminating content which is not encyclopedic. These activities would be more productive than simply blanking the page. --GentlemanGhost (converse) 03:16, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

I never noticed until now but if you look at the top of the Ronstadt wiki page you will see different tabs and one of the tabs is "Talk" and that is where I found this stuff. It is probably on all of their entries. And they must have an editing staff. All stuff I never knew until this haphazard find. Very interesting read for me and hopefully others. Their way of deciding how to enter and keep things explains a lot to me.

Az, did you see the post about Linda and Freddie Mercury on SNL in front of a choir? Has anybody heard this before? I have never heard of this. Based on the writer's estimation, the performance would have been 20-25 years before he wrote that which is 2008 (so '83-'88 time frame). eddiejinnj

I see some discussion of my website ronstadt-linda.com. While I understand their need to view the original sources, I do not understand why they removed my website from the "External Links" section. The folks at wikipedia piss me off a lot. I have at times taken to changing the URLs on my website so that their links do not work.
I haven't looked over the Ronstadt wikipedia in quite a long time, but I do agree that at times her accomplishments are overly exaggerated and seemed to be written by some Euro superfan who got carried away.

All I needed to see was, "Some die-hard fan must of written all of this..." to know the writer is some species of flaming troll — using "of" for "have" is a dead giveaway.
But I would say the Quivers/Stern episode is "infamous" because of the outright, unscripted contention on display, something rarely seen in that setting.
Does it deserve inclusion in an "encyclopedic" entry? I'd say nah because few besides us here even remember it.
Unlike the Vegas incident which, however much it was mis-portrayed, still lingers in the public consciousness and was perhaps an episode, like the takedown of the Dixie Chicks, emblematic of the period's culture wars.

Well, imo, you can't get over the top with Linda. :-) Just the fact that she didn't get into the RRHOF until 2013 shows that there needs to be more people touting the importance of Linda and how influential she was/is. Of course, it should be factual and subjective statements readily identifiable. eddiejinnj

So - what is the impression of Linda's birth certificate name? I want to see votes. I go with Linda Maria Ronstadt based on what she said at the 3/10/17 West Chester, PA gathering. I know there must have been others active on the Board who were at this show, what are your takes on her answer to the question. Based on the responses above however, seems like a lot of people who might actually know her think differently.

Is it possible that Linda does not remember her birth certificate name properly? She was very young when this event occurred. Does she not have a memory aid assistant? And why did she once sign her name as Maria Linda? That would be an odd reversal.

I think I mentioned in a previous thread that Linda has a twin sister. Her name could be Maria. Possibly Maria Linda. They looked identical in the photo.
Personally, I am confounded by it all. I wish she would have said at your gathering that her middle name was Maria instead of phrasing it the way she did. And what are the chances of a family member seeing her birth certificate unless it was one of her siblings?
I have a similar problem in my family but in this case my father went by two different middle names and several id's used both different names. I don't think he was born in a hospital. To further add to that confusion when I was studying family genealogy and showed him a list of his father's family to see if it was indeed his family he said he didn't know any of them lol. Oy. So I have gone through this before. Even scarier a couple of my brothers did that DNA thing and their results came back quite different. One was German Dutch and the other Irish Norse. Never mind that the Irish Norse brother actually looked like a Korean Paul McCartney. Recently there was some hubbub about Kylie Jenner's baby being that of her bodyguard and not of her boyfriend. So I did some exploration into that as I had understood it that babies always resemble their biological fathers. Well guess what? They are finding that babies may resemble unrelated partners of the mother i.e. past husbands, boyfriends, etc. (mailman) who are NOT the biological father. I threw up my hands after that one. lol When someone has proof of Linda's real name that we can all see for ourselves then please let me know. And since she doesn't look like any of her siblings .....

It is good to know for a lot of different reasons like numerology, astrology accuracy and even in creating your porn name (take your middle name or the name of your favorite pet followed by your mother's maiden name and that is your porn name). Real important stuff.

I guess it became a monster of a thread because there is such much discrepancy. The name on my hand signed check of hers says "Linda Ronstadt" with no middle name at all but I think it is more of a business check acct. eddiejinnj

Well, az, I know that some know your first name. I forget. My apologies. See I came up with the sn because I say eddie j in n. j. so that the j's are a mini alliteration-type thing. On the back of check it says "Pinky Nut". lol Just kidding. Well if I kept your first name you gave me, az, and Linda and I were in this hypothetical adult film, it could read "Starring "Pinky and Pud Nut." ROFL eddiejinnj

Based on the responses above however, seems like a lot of people who might actually know her think differently. I go with what Linda said at March 10th show, but there will always be people who will argue otherwise. As the name reversal from Linda Maria (or Linda Marie) to Maria Linda appeared to be something related to her Catholic upbringing, given she was a lapsed Catholic as an adult, it wouldn't have made sense for her to refer to herself as Maria Linda. That she appeared to have done so has always suggested to me she wasn't and isn't quite as lapsed as she makes out to be. On the back cover of "Evergreen Vol. 2," for some reason, Capitol gave the middle initial of each member. Linda's was Linda M. Ronstadt and I assume Linda signed her recording contract with Capitol (and later with Asylum) that way because the contract was a legal document. If she was given the name Linda Maria Ronstadt at birth, that's how she would have to sign any legal documents. To sign a legal document as Maria Linda Ronstadt would've been making a false declaration, which would've been a crime. Maybe Linda got past her fans using her middle name rather than using her first name? How many ordinary fans would've been aware her middle name was Maria (or Marie)and known to have looked her up by that name rather than by Linda?

And there is a little known and amusing complication.....the two Linda Ronstadts....I picked this up in one of my conversations with Janet years ago....we were talking about how on Ebay you will see "Linda Ronstadt's cancelled checks"...and she said that few people knew that Linda has a cousin Richie who is also a musician. I believe he was playing with her when she sang at that Mothers Day thing at that school in Tucson...and he is married to a woman named Linda...so she too is officially and legally "Linda Ronstadt" and it has caused her some problems... Linda has a very distinctive signature. I wonder what the "other" Linda's signature looks like? The checks I have seen have all looked like our Linda's that I have seen. BTW happy birthday. Also found it interesting that Andrew Gold told you her actual name is Maria Linda Ronstadt.

Hey thanks for the birthday wish! (how did you know that!)! I remember when Andrew told me that. It was in the very beginning when he was emailing me and he wrote something like "Hey did you know what Linda's real name is?!?" I guess he would have known better than I and I didn't ask Linda or anyone else to confirm it because it never came up. And when I got to speak to Linda herself I wasn't going to ask it!..

I try to check the days birthdays that are listed at the bottom of the forum and if the members have a lot of posts I like to browse them as a way of reviewing things I have forgotten. Your posts are better than most as you have so much information that the rest of us don't. Hope Sue and Janet and all are doing well and that you had a great birthday.

I pulled out the LP of Evergreen Vol 2 by the Stone Poneys. I didn't remember that they had her name posted on the back as Linda Maria Ronstadt, an upgrade from the first album where she was Linda Marie, if I recall correctly. Doesn't necessarily make that her "legal" name in either case. The most recent court documents have her listed as Maria Linda Ronstadt.

I didn't know there was a correction. Mine said Linda Marie but I bought it soon after its release. Learn something every day. I wonder how Andrew Gold came about bringing that up with Linda? Maybe they were twins. It irks me I never asked her mom that question but I didn't know it was a question back then.

And can they be found online? I thought Linda had settled this question herself at one of the book shows when she was asked about her name, and she said it was Linda Maria, and not Maria Linda. One would think once the lady herself said it, that should settle the matter and would be the end of it.
