I had told myself I would ignore this topic in the future but I just can't help myself. Go back to page 1 and take as gospel whatever macbanshee tells you. I have seen the name listed as Maria Linda on court documents and financial information documents. Maybe Linda is just toying with us or maybe she got confused. Here is a screen capture of the court system lookup-- I blocked out the name of my fellow Carolinian so as not to draw further attention to her after two decades:

Finally proof! lol
Basically, she was born with the official name Maria Linda Ronstadt BUT her stage name is Linda Ronstadt. Since that is the name that she chose for her "stage" name that is probably why Wikipedia wouldn't allow a change. All of her albums are Linda Ronstadt so that makes sense since everyone knows her as that and it is the one to be used. One would think they (wiki) would allow it somewhere else in her bio however. We should be able to sneak it in somehow.
i.e. Bob Dylan (born Robert Allen Zimmerman, May 24, 1941)

Not to confuse things in the least but you are sure (based on the defendants name or?) that this is Linda? Is it possible that there are or have been other "Maria Linda Ronstadts." eddiejinfl

i.e. Bob Dylan (born Robert Allen Zimmerman, May 24, 1941) I changed Linda's name on her Wikipedia entry once to Maria Linda Ronstadt. However, as this issue has gone back and forth over what her name is legally, I changed it back to Linda Maria until further proof could be established. The court entries and a couple of entries on BMI's web page for Linda's songwriting credits (most are for arrangements of songs that are in the public domain) give it as Maria Linda. However, Linda's high school year book photo listed her name as Linda Marie, and one would think the schools she went to would have listed her by her correct name. Unless someone can get ahold of her birth certificate or proof of her name being legally changed to Maria Linda if she was christened Linda Maria (or Marie), the issue may never be settled. If Linda was christened Linda Maria, she would had to have gone to court to ask that her name be legally changed; she could not just sign legal documents as Maria Linda Ronstadt as that again would be making a false declaration or statement. And which could've landed Linda in some serious legal troubles.

Not to confuse things in the least but you are sure (based on the defendants name or?) that this is Linda? Is it possible that there are or have been other "Maria Linda Ronstadts." eddiejinfl I once searched for an ex-girlfriend on my state's online court documents and ran into a slight problem: she wasn't the only woman with the name. I knew the basics so I was able to check off most of the others as not being her. However, the online court site wasn't really of any help anyway because all of the data was months or years old. So, it's possible there are other Linda Maria Ronstadts or Maria Linda Ronstadts out there who were either born with the name or got the name when they married.

I’m not a f***ing idiot. There may be other Maria Linda Ronstadts out there. But the likelihood of one opening a celebrity harassment case in Tucson is infinitesimal. Plus I have first-hand knowledge about the plaintiff in this case. Are you being deliberately obtuse?

I don't think yearbooks are legal documents nor do they require anything but the name her parents registered her as early on especially in a Catholic school where middle names are used profusely. She may have always been called Linda from birth on. The name one uses at a bank could be anything you want and sign up with for an account. Not a legal document. The celebrity court case nails it for me as being the proper first name with that documentation. Plus Tony knows both sides in the case. Beatle's Andrew Gold's comments and Macbanshee's are more confirmation even if anecdotal. Linda's sister Gretchen always went by the name Susan or Suzy which is another confirming clue their middle names were used to refer to them.

The use of Linda Marie for many years is interesting. In the Tucson newspaper, Linda’s debutante name was listed as Linda Marie Ronstadt.

No need to get angry over what I wrote. I just said it's a possibility, although the name Ronstadt is a rare name and it makes any possibility other women having the name unlikely, outside of maybe another family member sharing the name. I did some searches as well and came up empty when I searched by Linda Maria Ronstadt, but did find entries for Maria Linda Ronstadt, so maybe that's how she's listed on legal documents. I would like to get a look at her birth certificate, just to see what it says, but pointing out there could be other women with the same name shouldn't be taken as a challenge to your research, only that it was a possibility. An unlikely possibility.

Still, it stands to reason Linda's parents would've correctly entered her name for school. Having never gone to Catholic school, I can't speak as to the schools using the middle names. Most of my former girlfriends were Catholic but the subject of how they were addressed in Catholic schools (if they went to Catholic schools) was never brought up. I ever date another Catholic girl or can ask someone who's Catholic and went to a Catholic school, I'll ask. Bank documents, I'm less certain since that could involve legal issues with regards to money. I'll grant that the court cases provided are pretty solid, though Linda saying she was christened Linda Maria is also pretty solid. I don't think she was playing with anyone as she would had to have known it was being discussed here, and though I like to think she knows of this group, she probably doesn't. I tend to be a skeptical person, more skeptical now than when I was younger. I truly regret making Tony angry about his research. One can find out a lot of information on the internet about anyone, including yourself. Too much information. I'm a privacy freak and I think our personal information shouldn't be available on the internet for others to peruse. That includes Linda's information. All personal information should be stored off net. People don't realize just how invasive it is.

LOL, Tony, my friend, no offense taken because I can be obtuse at times and be argumentative, too. Your research is pretty solid and not very easy to counter. My dad used to say I would argue with a rock, to which I would say, "No, never. The rock agrees with me!" But, I believe any argument against only makes your case stronger if it can stand up to the argument in question. And I was simply pointing out a possibility, not a very strong one. Your evidence still holds up, beautifully.

I wasn't actually "angry" - I go at it like this all the time with my best friend who is a stubborn cuss much like yourself, but I have never once in over 40 years been actually angry at him. I am working up to my next altercation, which will be of the "Linda and Elvis" type... just need to check my facts first.

Linda has explained that her name was Maria Linda because Catholics had to have the first name of a saint, and there is no St. Linda. There is now lol.

Interesting to see the family tree. Tim Dowling really went back a long way to discover that Linda is his 12th cousin once removed! That would be 2x as many six degrees of separation...

(AP) A man infatuated with Linda Ronstadt was arrested for allegedly stalking the singer as she was preparing for a concert here, authorities said. Bernard A. Ortiz, 55, was taken into custody Saturday on an outstanding felony warrant for stalking out of Tucson, Ariz., Ronstadt's hometown. "I love her," Ortiz told reporters as he was being transported to jail in Phoenix. "I just wanted to be there for her. That's all." Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio said Tucson police alerted his office after being tipped off that Ortiz planned to attend Ronstadt's show at the Sundome. Ronstadt's representatives did not immediately return calls seeking comment.

We were raised Catholic and my youngest sister (passed five years ago) name was Mary Christian Koecher but she went by Cris (no H). Just so happens it was Cris who turned me onto Linda when I was eight years old. My sister was diagnosed with Parkinson’s the same week Linda went to press with her diagnosis of Parkinson’s, and like Linda she was misdiagnosed as well. Cris actually had Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) which mirrors Parkinson’s in many ways, but much more aggressive and no meds to treat it. Very rare, it also mirrors Linda’s condition, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) but my sister only lived three years after being diagnosed. She had symptoms that appeared four years before being diagnosed. Another Linda connection…Cris died on Linda’s birthday in 2016 at fifty-six. She should not have been driving but she decided to drive down the street to mail something at UPS. She could have waited for her afternoon caregiver to take her but Cris went alone before she arrived. Only a mile away. She got to UPS, delivered her package, got back in her SUV (I have no idea how she managed to do so by herself but she did) and then she died before restarting her car. 101 degrees outside, died alone in her SUV and no one noticed her slumped over the wheel for almost four hours. I wonder still if she took her own life. She died of complications from MSA and heart failure. Cris was an Iron man athlete, I hardly ever witnessed her finishing a cocktail when she had one, never did drugs or smoke, never abused her body beyond over training (also wonder if that had something to do with her having MSA) no children, died at fifty-six. Very sad. She was the clue of the family, gone. Luckily Linda has had better luck and knew when to STOP driving! I was so worried Cris would keep driving after she told me she wouldn’t. Cris’s luck came in the form of not injuring or killing someone with her decision to drive and ALONE at that.

No, this was a different person in this particular court action. The reason I trust macbanshee on this is because she was Linda's attorney.

The thing that never dies! Even after Linda said at one of her last book tours questions and answers that her given birth name was Linda Maria and not Maria Linda, after she was asked if she was born Maria Linda or Linda Maria. When does an issue become settled?
Again, Linda could've legally changed her name in court to Maria Linda, but up to the time she did that, any legal contracts she signed would had to have been signed as Linda M. Ronstadt or Linda Maria Ronstadt or Linda Marie Ronstadt, whatever name was given her by her parents. Her bank checks showed Linda M Ronstadt, not Maria L Ronstadt. Linda has said she's no longer Catholic, that she is a spiritual atheist, so if she was christened Linda Maria Ronstadt when she was born and is no longer Catholic, it would've been pointless for her to legally change her name to Maria Linda. Unless she is still Catholic, which again, I have long suspected she still is spiritually, and that she's not the atheist she claims to be.

Well, it's for certain this is not settled yet.
Your could've would've should've didn't add any new info to the conversation.
And yet I have shown a court case between Maria Linda Ronstadt and another resident of Tucson transplanted from the Carolinas. You make such a big deal about her legal name. Certainly her legal name would be on a court case where she is the plaintiff.
And don't give me any malarkey about that could be another Maria Linda Ronstadt because I have communicated with the defendant by email, she has sent me materials that I have used on the website, and I know damn well this case is the celebrity Linda Ronstadt suing an alleged harasser, not some mysterious doppelganger. I have even been contacted by one of Linda's attorneys to see if I had any additional information.
So I think my evidence is good. We won't call it proof.
As to Linda stating that her birth name was Linda Maria Ronstadt. She could have been mistaken. Hell, she did not even remember being on the Andy Williams Show. Memory is not totally reliable.

Well, it's for certain this is not settled yet.
Apparently not.
Your could've would've should've didn't add any new info to the conversation.
And yours did?
And yet I have shown a court case between Maria Linda Ronstadt and another resident of Tucson transplanted from the Carolinas. You make such a big deal about her legal name. Certainly her legal name would be on a court case where she is the plaintiff.
I make such a big deal about her legal name? Aren't you doing the same? You are getting angry about it, because some of us still question as to how Linda has been known as Linda Marie or Linda Maria most of her life, documents such as high yearbooks and check books, driver's licenses, et al have shown her as Linda M. Ronstadt. Do you have any legal documents to the houses that she has rented or owned or cars that she owned that show her name as Maria Linda Ronstadt? What about her record contracts? Record contracts are legal documents and have to be signed as to their legal name, regardless of whether Linda's name was Linda Maria or Maria Linda.
Who's giving you malarkey? You being contacted by one of Linda's attorneys to see if you have any additional information is relevant to this conversation in what way? Linda suing an alleged harasser is not something in dispute, nor am I saying or claiming that it's another person with the same name or some mysterious doppleganger. There is no need to get so angry as no one is doubting you. All I'm saying is that I believe Linda was born and christened Linda Maria (or Marie) and that if her name now is Maria Linda, then she must've gone to court at a certain point and had her name changed. That is a possibility, is it not?
I know BMI has Linda registered as Maria Linda, but I also know I saw her name given on BMI as Linda Maria. Linda's name change with BMI to Maria Linda occurred sometime in the 2000s. And when you're signed with the musical licensing agencies, that is also a legal contract loaded with a lot of legalese. Almost as bad as signing a contract with a record company or movie studio.
So I think my evidence is good. We won't call it proof.
Yes, your evidence is good and also good not to call it proof.
As to Linda stating that her birth name was Linda Maria Ronstadt. She could have been mistaken. Hell, she did not even remember being on the Andy Williams Show. Memory is not totally reliable.
As many of us here have said that Linda's memory is doing good despite the problems associated with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy or Parkinson's, it seems odd we would question she couldn't remember her own name when she said at the book tour Q&A that she was born Linda Maria Ronstadt, and not Maria Linda. And she answered without hesitating as I recall.
As for her not remembering being on Andy Williams's show, she also did not remember being on Glen Campbell's TV show (with Neil Diamond). Did she remember being on the Bobby Darin TV special, The Darin Invasion? The thing here is, Linda has always been dismissive of TV and if she does not remember every TV show she was on, is that a sign of a bad memory, something associated with PSP or the fact she is 75 years old, going to be 76 in July, and probably did so many of those shows, that the hosts and shows were interchangeable?
And again, the book tour Q&A in which the question was asked occurred I believe with her very last book show, before she decided to retire. Everyone agreed she was doing fine and her memory seemed to be good. As I also remember, she also had something to say about why she was given the name Linda Maria at birth and not Maria Linda. That video used to be somewhere on these pages. Or on Youtube. Have to wonder how hard it would be to find?
But, I don't mean to make you or anyone angry about the subject. I just see it as debating the points. No one should get angry about the subject as really, it's nothing to do with us or anyone in the grand scheme of things. We have no irons in the fire as to Linda's legal name. I don't and you shouldn't.
