This was posted on John Boylan's website GreatEasternMusic.com yesterday. What do you all think?
CURRENT PROJECTS
The long-rumored Linda Ronstadt biopic is now up-and-running. Selena Gomez is attached to play Linda; the two recently spent a few hours at Linda's home discussing the project and getting to know each other. The film will be jointly produced by James Keach, award-winning producer of the Johnny Cash biopic, Walk The Line, as well as Linda's Grammy-winning documentary, The Sound of My Voice, together with John Boylan, Linda's manager. Development will continue once the current labor disputes have been settled.

I think it will work. Linda’s friends are heavily involved and Selena Gomez is impressive as an actor and singer. I’m very pleased and I hope it’s true.

I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt to Selena, especially if she's very diligent about learning about Linda.
I had Rachel Zegler in mind to portray Linda because of her luminous acting and singing as Maria in director Steven Spielberg's 2021 re-imagining of West Side Story, a performance for the ages (IMHO). But again I'm not in any way against Selena Gomez taking on this role. I don't envy her task, but I would also not sell her short.

I like they finally saying the biggest pop star of the 70's like they mean it. I wish that I could agree by my experiences that she has "always been cool" as a general consensus of those around me growing up. eddiejinnj

I think this could be a cool movie depending on what Linda willing to reveal (not saying tell all sensational stuff) but there are so many stories you would think of her working with various artists etc that the documentary just touched on or didn't cover at all. I guess we shall see. eddiejinnj

Selena was and is a good choice to play a young Linda, but I don't know how well she will be able to play Linda in her later years.
I was scanning through YouTube the other night, looking for videos to watch and came across a video I thought had some Linda content. There was a photo of someone on a talk show who looked a great deal like Linda in profile. I thought it was Linda, but as I made my way through the video and they came to that section of the video, it wasn't Linda at all but a Latino actress whose name is now escaping me. Gonna have to see if I can find out who it was.
Now, another question, will the Linda biopic feature Selena singing as Linda or will Linda's own recordings be used, or like the Elvis biopic, will it be a mix of Selena singing as Linda with Linda's own recordings being used?

I'm skeptical because these biopics are not always well-crafted or 100% accurate. The project has a good team behind it, but I'm not a big fan of biopics in general. I don't know that much about Selena's acting or singing abilities, but I'm quite certain her vocals would not be as strong as Linda's. I hope I'm proven wrong and it's a blockbuster!!

I guess we shall see. eddiejinnj If the movie follows Linda's book Simple Dreams, it will very likely be a very short movie. I would hope that it would be like the Elvis biopic, a movie with a run time of about 2.5 hours to get as much right as possible, all the while knowing there's going to be some poetic license taking place. The poetic would be the things not covered in Linda's books but possibly mentioned by her over the years or by friends and relatives. I definitely would like the movie to focus on Linda's music, especially on songs she may have sang in concert but didn't record or recorded but didn't release for one reason or another. But, that would also depend on how many songs were attempted and completed or if the songs had a vocal from Linda at all. And as for a soundtrack album, I figure why not a CD of Selena singing Linda's songs and a second CD of Linda singing those same songs?

I was never a fan of this biopic idea, they hardly ever turn out good. That being said, Selena is who I thought would most likely get the part considering her looks, she acts and she sings well. Well enough to sing herself in the film? It looks like a good team behind the project. I just hope they don’t follow the documentary so close that is redundant for those who see both. I think the writers strike might work in their favor because we need 2-3 yrs before it’s released. Linda has had lots of exposure lately and with The Sound of My Voice a few years ago, I would like to see more time go by before another. A couple years ago I might not have given Selena the benefit of the doubt. Today I am. I wish the best and hopes she nails it.

Since Boylan posted it on his website, I think it's a done deal with Gomez starring, and the papers have been signed. Could be wrong though.

Anything is possible, but it does seem like it is a done deal. The big hang-up, however, is the fact that we have two large scale labor stoppages, one with the Writer's Guild and the other with SAG-AFTRA. Even if it is a done deal, a movie is still at least two years away (IMHO).

I'm not thrilled tbh, the only biopics I ever liked were The Glen Miller Story and The Man Of A Thousand Faces :-) :-) I won't be watching even for curiosity sake... I guess if it brings a whole new audience? Even then, the documentary was good enough to do that. I'd say wholly unnecessary but what can you do, it's the modern way.

this could be interesting … although i’m not a fan of SG and if she sings herself then i don’t think i’ve even watch it. BUT if she lipsyncs and it’s thoroughly and well done it could be entertaining

I don't think you could get me not to watch it. I do hope, too, like others have said that it is done well and not a cheesy mess. Like has also been said, the production team involved is excellent. eddiejinnj

Some poetic license could take place, and the essence of Linda's life's story would still come through brilliantly, particularly if Selena dug in with her research and with her singing. But I can only think of a handful of things about Linda that could be cinematically dramatized and made interesting and still reflect the essence and the truth of Linda's upbringing, like being in Catholic school, which was something of a horror show for her. Her concert appearances, especially after the mass success of Heart Like A Wheel and when she appeared with her favorite in-house desperados The Eagles, could conceivably generate a lot of drama, but they would also show Linda to be the kind of "star" she must have internally thought she really was--someone who just did what she did, come Hell or high water, had a lot of success, and influenced generations of female singers well into the 21st century.

I hope they use the original music, sung by Linda Ronstadt herself, and let the actress lip sync.
No actress can sing like Linda Ronstadt.

Very Interesting and Exciting News. So I checked out Selena's Instagram page and as of yet there's no mention of this project ...but Holy crap.. she has over 400 MILLION followers on Instagram.. More than a kardashian or US President(past or present.) I'm not familiar with her acting skills or any of her songs.. As far as playing Linda I feel as others here have said.... she'll have a very good team around her, including Linda to help her... This particular photo stands out for me.. uncanny http://instagram.com/p/Cq5o_1EL1UK

Hi Muse: I am sorry for your loss. My mother's sister is not doing well and is on hospice. I have been beside myself. My prayers are with you. I never realized Selena would have 400 million on Instagram though I am not into those kind of sites. I hope she does nail the performance of Linda.

Selena Gomez has some things in common with Linda. She used this photo --- link --- for the cover of one of her albums. Was it inspired by the cover of Don't Cry Now but without the heavy clothing? Also, like Linda, she expressed regrets about the photo shoot.

Selena doesn't remind me all that much of Linda, but I can see why she was chosen for the biopic. I admire Selena for her courage in publicly sharing her struggles with both lupus and bipolar disorder. She is a an outspoken mental health advocate, which is important because she has such a huge social media presence.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Selena on her pending portrayal of Linda, hoping that she will turn in an Oscar worthy performance as Linda. I didn't realize until I looked it up that Selena will turn 31 next Saturday, her birthday coming just a week after Linda's! I also didn't realize she had crossed the 30 mile marker in her life; I thought she was still in her 20s somewhere. So she may be at the right age to play Linda in all the phases of her professional life, from late teens and her first recordings to her 60s and her last recording. So, I will be waiting for the movie and the hopes Selena definitely nails it as an actress and as a singer singing Linda's songs.

I have a friend in Maryland who received some bad news that she has stage 4 bone cancer and brain cancer and is in long term hospice care. I'm praying for her and her kids and grandkids as she has accepted the inevitable and is ready to go. She is also a Linda fan but has never been here to my knowledge. And I'm guessing she is shutting down everything on her computer that she has been part of. I suspect the inevitable may be closer than her family realizes, but I pray she has all the time she needs to be with her family. They are what matters to her now.

Thanks you guys....quick note.....yes being "IN THE MOMENT" and in gratitude is ALL we have these days......I hadnt co habitated with ANY family since I was about 16 years of age,,,,I left early....my mom, who adored education, was a admin-secty for almost two decades at a famous university school of education....one semester, first day, students rushed the fire door on the hall and slammed it into my mom, standing in this old marble-brick building at the top of stairs,,,her friend standing 3 steps below her facing her,,,,Mom chose not to hurt her friend,,,,chose to "go over" the railing, dog paddling mid air and landed , hitting the fire door with her head, on the floor below, breaking hip, pelvis, 2 ribs, foot and a benign brain tumour under the skull above the dura
she refused to sue, thought it would "hurt the kids", I was out of state
and of course,,,11 years i had to caretake, she couldn't lift or barely walk, but she had her great sense of humour and wits till the end....she was a joy to take care off, albeit it was near full time and without an estate...I'd do it again
made up for a lot of lost teenage years!!!
Thank you for condolences.....now on to my Cali Car journey life......

Your mother sounds like she is a compassionate soul. I am very sorry for your loss. I took care of my parents at the end of their lives as well. They died three weeks apart. I am so glad I was able to be there as you were for your mother. God bless
