There is a version of this song I never heard and with different (added) lyrics and different arrangement. Wow, I got link to work.

Great find Eddie. Here is another some casual fans might not know about that was recorded for the Get Closer album but unreleased.

I have heard that one before. Great to reprise for a lot of new members, etc. That song was not on any album, correct? How are these two on YouTube with out a release since they not live? eddiejinnj

As far as I know they weren't on any album except a bootleg or compilation album. I don't understand why Price of Love wasn't included on the Get Closer album. It is a good song with a catchy tune and the vocals are strong. Things have a way of disappearing from youtube never to be seen again so if one can figure it out they should try to download them while they last.

Seems to me that back in the day there were several of Linda's singles on album sized vinyl and extended versions (in bright colors) for sale in places like Tower Records. This could be one of them.

Quote by ronstadtfanaz:
I don't either, to be honest. It was an Everly Brothers track (though not one of their better-known ones; it was not a hit here in America, but topped the UK chart in 1965), and thus very much an old-school rock and roll number (IMHO).

My favorite country singer adores Linda as I do, Trisha Yearwood. I'm going back someday, come what may to Blue Bayou

I have somewhere out there in my stuff a 33 (I think radio demo though it might not say it on the label)lp version of "Somewhere Out There" I got from Cheap Thrills Record store in New Brunswick, NJ when I was a student at Rutgers. It was a great place to get cool finds and hang and look and get out of the cold if you were between classes lol!!!!!! The lp was the radio version of the song and I believe the instrumental on the b side. It was not an alt version or live etc but I thought it was a cool Linda find and collectible somewhere out there. ok ed push the phrase ad nauseum lol eddiejinnj

Great version-thanks. If anyone is interested in a truly psychedelic experience, try accidentally playing all three examples above sequentialy I had to shutdown the page to squelch the three out-of-sync Lindas. Never thought I would ever try to silence her.

Eddie, and RonstadtfanAZ, and Erik -- I know you have all been around here and previous incarnations of the Forum for a long time. This person on YouTube posting a still photo of Linda for a video, that I have not seen before. However, this extended (and, IMHO, rough cut) version of "Get Closer" has been presented here over the years. In fact, there are TWO (2) Unreleased Takes. The one featured in the video and then a different and shorter take of "Get Closer." Both are different from the released version.
I guess the Peter Allen song applies. "Everything Old Is New Again."

I do not recall ever hearing it before but that doesn't mean I haven't. I still don't think I have. I really don't remember her ever saying the word "macho" in a song. Again, maybe I have heard it and forgot. It is unbelievable to me how long I have been involved in the forum. I look forward to reading stuff every day. Thanks all!!!!! eddiejinfl

I recall the photo and may have even posted it before but I don't recall this specific version of the song itself. The fact that it seems vaguely familiar means I probably did but I don't even remember what I did yesterday anymore.

And they showed the photo at exactly my favorite guitar riff climax out of all of Linda's songs. That audio shows exactly how good Linda and her band were live. A rare commodity these days.

There are also at least 2 alternate versions of I Knew You When out there.

Just did some quick checking. I found this CD called OFF THE SHELVES in the Village sometime in the 90's I am guessing (since the final track on this cd is Oh No Not MY Baby. It has Rambler Gambler, alternate Get Closer, alternate I knew you When, and alternate Tell Him. There is a live version of WWIBL that opens the cd and the rest of the tracks include a smattering of songs released on CD.

Most likely versions done getting to the final version. One has different backing vocals, more guitar on the second half, and slightly different Linda vocals. The other version I notice a more piano in the mix and there are no background vocals at all.

Surfing YouTube tonight I found this video which is interesting ... not sure if it’s been posted before but the video is definitely different to the regular Get Closer one I’ve seen and there is at least 1 difference verse to the album version of the tune and the vocals sound different! Thoughts ?

Fun. This unfinished track lacks 3 important elements that gave “Get Closer“ an irresistible bite. Danny Kortchmar’s super energized guitar solo, Patti Austin’s amazing backing vocals and Linda updating the lyrics with “Come on be a man.” She sounded so strong on this song it blew me away. I Immediately LOVED It.

Looks like Robert Plant and Allison Krauss are covering the Everly Brother’s tune “Price of Love” that Linda recorded for the Get Closer album but pulled from it and replaced it with the song “Get Closer”. I wish Linda would have stuck with “Price of Love” instead of “Get Closer” which grew on me but I’ve never been been crazy over. I guess she decided the "Cost of Love" was worth more than the "Price of Love."

I was always a bit disappointed by Linda's version of the song somehow... but then for me the ultimate version is Roxy Music for power and energy (perfect with castanets, gob iron, wailing trumpet all shoe-horned in) and anything else - even the original - falls a bit short. I'm not a massive Roxy fan but there were many songs, mostly their hit singles, they nailed perfectly.
