Quote by PoP80 re. "The Price Of Love":
Well, I'm inclined to really like the title track for Get Closer, though this is of course only my opinion. But should Linda's version of "The Price Of Love" been included on that album? Again, my opinion only (for what it's worth [LOL]), but I think the answer is "Yes".

"Price of Love" is more "Mad Love" album material, and "Cost of Love" is a better song. "Get Closer" is also more good natured, with a mocking/teasing humour while PoL is harsher & to me, less Linda.

IMO, I don't think POL would have been good for "Mad Love". It was a more GC song since that album was more diverse than "Mad Love" GC and POL both sound '80's stylistically. If you love '80's music then both deliver but POL is the weaker of the 2. eddiejinnj

“Price of Love” would have been all wrong for Mad Love. Completely different guitar sound.

Seems to me that back in the day there were several of Linda's singles on album sized vinyl and extended versions (in bright colors) for sale in places like Tower Records. This could be one of them. I don't think so; the audio quality is just too good for it to probably have come from a record and there's quite a lot of tape hiss. It's definitely possible for a record to sound that good, and I've had plenty that do come very close to sounding that good (even on my mediocre equipment), but it just doesn't seem likely to me that a record that probably didn't sell in particularly high quantities would be either: a. preserved well enough to be completely scratch, pop, and crackle free, or b. sealed for ~40 years and then opened and have no manufacturing defects, and c. played back on good equipment with no static on the record or operator error, and the chance of a or b alone being true isn't that great and they must be combined with c for it to sound that good, and the likelihood of somebody deciding to record it on what must be some pretty decent equipment and then putting it on YouTube (or sharing it with someone who put it on YouTube) just doesn't seem that high to me. What I think happened is that somebody with access to the master tape must've either digitized it or made a copy on tape and then distributed it to some people, which then made it to the Internet. I'm guessing that somebody made a copy to tape once it became clear that the song would never be released, because there's just too much hiss for it to be a digital copy of the master and the easiest way to introduce hiss/noise is to make an analog copy of an analog source. This is also my theory as to how we got Keeping Out of Mischief and the Ultrasonic Studios 4/7/1990 tape. That reminds me, does anybody have a link to a copy of Keeping Out of Mischief? The only copy I've found on YouTube has really bad tape hiss, to the point of being almost unenjoyable. Almost.

If I am not mistaken, RAI is an Italian network. However, the person who posted this on YouTube states that it is from 1990, when we know that isn't correct --

Great find Rick.If you look carefully about 1.12 into video you can see the name of the programme Discoring in the top right.Discoring was the Italian equivalent of U.K.’s Top of the Pops & ran from 1977 to 1989 & usually aired on Sundays. This particular episode was part of Linda’s short tour of Europe in 1983 to promote the album.I know she also performed in Italy on the Popcorn tv show but don’t have exact date for either show but she performed on several shows in U.K.,France & Holland during January & February that year.Surprisingly the only European country I haven’t located any performances on tv.shows for is Germany apart from the show Bananas where she appears in the video in the car park in the snow singing Tell Him but I think that was prerecorded elsewhere.Because of her popular concert appearance in 1976 I would have presumed she would have appeared there but I haven’t found anything yet but will keep looking.

Not sure how I feel about this song (price of love) and Linda covering it. IMO, the song seems better suited for Bonnie Raitt. I can actually hear her singing it.

Was Linda’s version ever released? “Price of Love” was recorded during The Get Closer sessions. From what I was told years ago, not sure if there is any truth to it and I can’t remember who told me now, that “Price of Love” was pulled and replaced with the song “Get Closer” which was one of the last songs Linda found for the album, naming the album Get Closer. I think “Price of Love” is much better to the ear, my ear at least, than “Tell Him”, which I don’t care for. I don’t care for the lead into “Lies” I don’t care for any version of “Tell Him”. I don’t care for the song at all. Never have. I would have kept Price, Closer and ditched “Tell Him” if I had to have one or the other.

Did we ever count promo 45's as singles (to base the rarest one on)? I had the 33 RPM single for "Somewhere Out There" but I believe that was a promo for radio stations. Of course, in that case, the 45 RPM single is not that hard to get but this 33 RPM I am sure was/is hard to get. I have "The Waiting" promo cd. Seems like a number of them have been out there. If this live Get Closer is a promo, was there enough interest to do a Dutch single?
