Would have loved to have heard Linda’s version of One Moment In Time.

Here's another song that I could imagine Linda singing back in the 1970s --
Inez and Charlie Foxx -- "1-2-3-4-5-6-7 Count the Days" --

SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW BY JUDY GARLAND LYING TO THE MOON BY MATRACA BERG
would've been tough cos these original versions seem perfect.
Also: WALKING AFTER MIDNIGHT BY PATSY CLINE MCARTHUR PARK BY JIMMY WEBB LOVERS CROSS BY JIM CROCE (someone else mentioned I think)
But I think she could've done equal versions.
Other songs I would have liked to hear her do: Not sure BUT would start with looking at songs by Neil Young, Jackson Browne, Jimmy Webb, BEATLES, Beach Boys, Tom Petty, MATRACA BERG, Eagles, J.D. Souther...
FUN TOPIC TO REVIVR HERE....So I'll be back with more...

But I think she could've done equal versions. From my prior post, I was really only referring to SOMEWHERE.. & LYING TO... but would also apply to the Patsy Cline song...

Souther... FUN TOPIC TO REVIVR HERE....So I'll be back with more... Just thinking of Linda covering Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Walkin' After Midnight. Heaven. A lot of Jim Croce's songs, I think, would've held appeal to Linda but I think she would've held off recording any until some time had passed after the shock and sadness of Jim dying in an airplane crash. I would like to have seen Linda covering a song Jim didn't write but covered, "Thursday." It would've worked in a country reading by Linda. MacArthur Park would've been another fascinating take, although that song has almost been recorded by every artist and their mother...and grandparent! Even Elvis was considering the song until his manager started harassing Jimmy Webb for a quarter interest in the music publishing. Which leads me to believe Elvis had in fact recorded the song and it may be a lost song. Elvis sang a few lines in his 1968 TV special and Jimmy Webb said he heard Elvis's version in his book, but that Elvis's manager threatened to bury the song if he didn't get a quarter of the publishing. Col. Parker never got a quarter publishing interest, so if Elvis recorded the song proper, where Parker buried the song was never disclosed. I haven't heard the Matraca Berg song but I think she should've been a regular songwriter of Linda's. For that matter, if I had been Linda's manager, I would've been asking Matraca, Gretchen Peters and Beth Neilsen Chapman to write songs specifically for Linda, and to write songs with Linda. Gretchen and Beth are more country-pop or country-rock singer-songwriters than straight out country songwriters. Matraca may be more hard core country but Linda did record one of her songs at least.

"If You've Got Leaving On Your Mind" is one Linda could have excelled at.

Linda did sing Somewhere Over The Rainbow in the Riddle concert at Caesar’s Tahoe,Stateline,Nevada on 9th August 1986 when she also sang one of my favourites In The Mood.Perhaps she was trying these out for future recordings but changed her mind.Wish there was a recording of that concert.

With respect to the Matraca Berg-penned song in question, "Lying To The Moon": Trisha Yearwood recorded it on her third album The Song Remembers When, in 1993. Trisha is known for recording a lot of Matraca's songs, and, last but not least, is arguably the biggest mega-fan of Linda's among the female country music sisterhood over the last three decades.
And yes, Linda could very easily have recorded another one of Matraca's songs, especially since Matraca herself was over-the-moon about her song "Baby Walk On" getting Linda's treatment on Feels Like Home in 1995. I had thought of something like "The Things You Left Undone".
I would say, however, that the Big Missed Opportunity is that we never got a Linda/Trisha collaboration on record, especially if it was one of Matraca's songs they were doing.

Was listening to Linda's version of "Teardrops Will Fall" and my mind flashed on the k.d. lang-Elton John duet "Teardrops." I played this song a lot when it was released in 1993 but it might have been fun had Elton asked Linda to record this duet with him --

I don't know when this song was written but I could picture Linda and Ann Savoy doing this song. It sounds old but it sounds sad and that fit my mood at the moment.

Did she sing it in a style close to Judy's? Cos I once heard a recording she did of it, but it was a choral type thing and not what I wanted to hear from her on that song. Her voice didn't stand out. I don't know where or when I heard it. I saw the song on her piano and know she liked it. Maybe she did sing it straight on and it's taped or recorded somewhere. I think I heard it was her favorite song, but I might be imagining that because its my favorite song, ha!

There is so much talent out there. I wonder if Linda was even aware of Otis Redding's version? It would have been great with Linda's CLAR voice. One song Linda did consider but never recorded.

May 23 (Monday of this week) would have been Rosemary Clooney's 94th birthday. As we know, Rosemary and Linda were good friends. Happened to see some tributes to Rosemary online and thought that Linda might have recorded these two songs previously recorded by Rosie Clooney (both songs by Irving Berlin, who wrote "What'll I Do?") --

"Helplessly Hoping"--Crosby, Stills, and Nash. Linda could have done this with Dolly and Emmylou, and she could have played acoustic guitar on it (IMHO):

I think this overlooked Motown gem could have worked well on an album like "Living in the U.S.A." or even re-arranged to suit "Mad Love" --

I think when Linda sang "Over the Rainbow", it was during the NR period and it was done as vocal group harmony. Kind of like the Trio. We have it on the forum, I am sure. eddiejinnj
