ronstadt.proboards.com/post/64733What's that rainbow thing she's wearing around her neck? I can sort of/maybe guess. I have seen many people wearing them at awards ceremonies lately. They must give them out at ceremonies and events. Are they forced to wear them? I saw a Kennedy Center-type thing and EVERYBODY wore one. They must be forced to wear them (or else they get "stared down" by Obama, Bono, Whoopi and Hillary). Right? I would think that Linda would have enough "liberal street cred" not to have to wear one... (update: it seems that those ribbons are for "diverse achievements") ----

The wide rainbow-colored ribbon hung around the necks of the Kennedy Center Honors recipients, and prominently noticeable when the events are televised, symbolizes "a spectrum of many skills within the performing arts" according to creator Ivan Chermayeff, a famous graphic designer who died in 2017.

Linda at the May Day demonstrations in D.C. (May 1, 1971): Love this photo of Linda. Wish she had been looking up. Her long hair and curls...angelic! However, her feet!!! Holy smoke! How big were her feet? They looked as big and as long as mine. (And my shoe size is 14EEE - Bigfoot was my nickname.)

Look at the ankles on the guy standing on her right or the Popeye forearms of the guy on her left. Methinks the photo is distorted.

The curls are really nice. Kind of reminds me of that one photo from living in the USA where she is tying up her roller skates...of course, in that photo her hair was cropped and perm'd... but the curls were very pretty, bouncy looking and glossy not frizzy ...

Kind of like a fun house mirror distortion effect. Or maybe it was a double exposure? Regardless, what melts this old heart of mine is Linda's long hair all in curls. That must've been stunning for any man lucky enough to have seen her then.

I just imagine an LP by Linda with long, curly hair in the early 70s might have moved a lot of units, irrespective of the music contained on the record. There were people who collected albums just for the covers, which to me was and is nuts. Same for the picture sleeves that were available on some 45s. I bought records for the music but if there had been a album cover featuring Linda's long hair in curls, I might have bought a couple of extra copies. I didn't care for Linda's hair being all curled up when it was short. Short, curly hair does not look good on anyone, man or woman.

I used to get asked how come I didn't comb or brush my hair because it always looked like sh*t. Linda's short, curly hair reminded me of the hair I sometimes had in my 20s. I never could keep it decent looking and hated that greasy kid stuff with a passion and also my hair cut so short it didn't suit my face at all. Thankfully, Linda's hair looked better than what mine ever did and at least Linda's hair wasn't as scary looking as Anne Murray's "can of worms" hairstyle. That was how some rock columnist in the 70s pegged Murray's hairstyle and I thought how bad could it be? I hadn't seen a photo of Murray then with the hairstyle, but once I did, I covered all the mirrors in the house with towels, lest they should break. Petula Clark also had some horrendously bad curls in the 70s. Not short, but a woman with slightly blondish hair did not look good with an Afro style of blond curls. Led me to wonder what hairstylist was recommending short, curly hair or bad curly hair to female celebrities? And why hadn't the state taken away their license to style hair?

Quote by fabtastique re. Kennedy Center Honors: It may still be at CBS's website. Tony did, however, download the opening part, which was all about Linda, into a video file. Inquire of him if he still has the ability to send you that segment if you wish. In the meantime.... Linda performing "Are My Thoughts With You?" on Hee Haw (April 1970):

[/quote] She does look good in this photo, but in some of the other photos I have seen where her hair is short and in curls, the style simply doesn't look good on her. Others, I know would disagree with me on that assessment but Linda ultimately was the one to be happy with how she looked. And I think she was happy with her do. so that is all that matters.

I like this one too. She looks a little startled by something, or wondering about something. Our eyes often convey the moods we are in. Linda's eyes during her short hair era conveyed some moods on her I wouldn't have wanted to have been cross with her. Strangely, if Linda's hair had been long when some of those photos were taken, I don't know if the eyes would've given the same impression. Maybe it's our perceptions, but I remember there was someone who wrote a book or was on a talk show or both, who said one can get a sense of what's going on with people's lives in their photos. I sometimes wonder if Linda was a happy camper during the short hair era of her popularity?
