I thought we should re-start this thread about the most recent times we have heard Linda on the radio, which had been on the old board. So here's mine:
Last night @ 8:30 PM on KOLA 99.9 FM: Ooh Baby Baby.

I wish somebody somewhere would play her version of "River".

It's depressing to say this, but in the 11 years since Linda put out her Christmas album, I have heard her version of "I'll Be Home For Christmas" only once on the radio--and that has been absolutely it.

I wish somebody somewhere would play her version of "River". I know it is not "the radio," but often during the holidays here in Southern California, I will walk into different stores this time of year and hear Linda's version of "River" from her Chirstmas CD. Am always pleased to hear it.

I hear the "River" played several times during the holidays, most often in stores though.

Quote by wdcats: It just speaks to the fact that, evidently, Linda's Christmas music is more like "muzak" to the big radio stations.

When her Christmas album first came out the local area malls in Phoenix played about half the cuts quite frequently. Since I only listen to talk radio I can't comment much about music stations.

About 2:30 am this moning KOY AM Radio played When You Wish Upon A Star. This little station www.am1230koy.com/main.html airs more Linda Ronstadt than any others in Arizona that I know of. They use her whole catalog including her Latin recordings.

This morning on KSWD 100.3 FM (The Sound) @ 9:43 AM, as part of the station's regular Sunday morning feature "Peace, Love, And Sunday Mornings":
"Different Drum"
The radio announcer, a woman, referred to Linda as "the woman whose voice needs no Auto-Tune" (probably a potshot at Taylor Swift and like-minded "singers" of today, but a deserved one [IMHO]).

Different Drum, You're No Good, When Will I Be Loved, Ooh Baby Baby...that's usually about it for Linda on my local radio stations though sometimes I will hear Somewhere Out There. Haven't heard Long Long Time in ages. On the main local oldies station, it used to be played at least once a day but the song has been long gone from their play list for quite some time. Very disappointing that Linda is only represented by three or four of her hits.

I agree that it is disappointing that one doesn't hear Linda much on the radio anymore. Then again, that anyone hears her on the radio at all in some form or another, whether it's as part of regular programming or these special 70s or 80s countdown shows, is something to be noted (IMHO).

Then again, that anyone hears her on the radio at all in some form or another, whether it's as part of regular programming or these special 70s or 80s countdown shows, is something to be noted (IMHO). That's true but one of my main complaints about certain oldies radio stations is the limited airplay of certain artists who had a lot of Top 40 hits, but you would never know that by listening to oldies radio. Elvis had 107 Top 40 hits in his lifetime but the oldies station only plays about five or six of those songs. The Beatles had 20 number ones but as with Elvis, you're only going to hear five or six of those songs. Other acts like the Beach Boys, the Byrds, the Rolling Stones, who had a lot of hits, you'll only hear a couple of their hits on the oldies station. Of course, I understand they've only got 1440 minutes in a day to play music and air their commercials but still, there are certain songs they play just too much of in a single day. When you consider the rather large number of forgotten oldies that exists and the competition from youtube music videos, satellite radio and cable music channels, one would think over the air radio stations playing music would want to expand the number of songs they play But, the play list seems to be limited to about 100 songs for an oldies station. Much less for a Top 40 station.

Unfortunately, a lot of these radio station playlists seem to be determined by focus groups in some windowless and impersonal cubicle somewhere; and Linda, who hasn't released much in the way of pop music that anyone's bought in mass quantities in two decades, has been shafted by these people.
That's why this thread exists; whenever possible, everyone can point out where and when they have heard Linda as of late.

Something else I've noticed about radio and Linda's music: at Christmas time, the stations used to pretty consistent about playing songs from Linda's Christmas album. But not this year. I haven't heard the first song and that's strange. The stations also used to be pretty consistent about playing many of Elvis's Christmas recordings but again, this year, it's been limited to "Blue Christmas." There are other Christmas tunes I haven't heard on the radio as well and have to wonder what's turning the station programmers into miserly music Scrooges this Christmas?

Out here in L.A., I have only ever heard one airing of Linda's version of "I'll Be Home For Christmas" in the 11 years since her Christmas album came out. And it makes me fume for this general lack of airplay of any of Linda's material, Christmas and otherwise, on the radio here in Los Angeles, where she spent so much of her life.

All of this makes me wonder if radio is engaged in some sort of backlash against Linda and her music? Maybe the L.A. radio stations don't like the fact that Linda is no longer a resident there, having relocated to San Francisco, then back home to Tuscon, then back to San Francisco. As for where I live, the only stations that play Linda's music are the oldies radio stations, and it was usually them playing her Christmas tunes. There's a 70s oriented radio station here but they don't play Linda at all, but they do play her former band, the Eagles, and Jackson Browne. It's a shame the way she is ignored.

I think it has a lot to do with these so-called "focus groups" that these big media conglomerates use to determine what gets played on oldies radio stations and classic rock stations; and it's maybe just ten to a hundred (out of, what, hundreds of thousands) that make such nutty determinations.
I don't think it has anything to do with the fact that Linda moved out of Los Angeles. When she has come back to perform in L.A., whether it's with the mariachis, with rock outfits, or with jazz ensembles, her shows always get substantial crowds coming to see and hear her. Linda may not like the "star syndrome" the town is under (and I think she is right about her ambivalence), but she does appreciate her fans here. And many of them I know are trying to get her songs back on. Progress is being made--slowly, but it is being made.

While driving up to oregon last weekend I heard Linda on a country station .. (somewhere on the 101 past san fran) a good station, I might add.. it was silver threads and golden needles.. I was shocked ,you never hear that on our c&w radio station in the los angeles and OC area... would be rare. On a side note the only good radio station I like out here is an oldies station 92.3 Art Laboe, they play some rare oldies.or dedications. like Joe Tex.. Dark end of the street (yeah, Linda's song) stuff like that.. which I love.
