I continue to hear Linda on a regular basis on 104.9 FM on Hilton Head Island in SC. If I'm lucky with my timing, I'll hear her 3 or 4 times per day! They still mostly play songs from Prisoner in Disguise and earlier, though...once in a blue moon I'll hear Blue Bayou, but that's rare. I'm not too sure why they play only the older hits. They are not an oldies station per say...they play numerous songs from the 80's, 90's and 00's. Maybe the DJs simply like her older stuff better! Oh well, any Linda is good Linda, and I'm glad that I get to hear her on the air as often as I do!

I think it's because Linda's last Top 40 hit was in March 1990 ("All My Life"); and her last appearance on the Hot 100 overall was with "When Something Is Wrong With My Baby" in June 1990. The whole point of the matter is that she hasn't had a Hot 100 hit in close to twenty-two years now, I'm afraid.

Perhaps an unreleased track from the Trio box will give her another hit!

Quote by richwar: Perhaps on the country chart. But even that is kind of iffy, given that those who inhabit it these days are one-half to one-third her age. Anyway: This morning @ 9:08 AM on KOLA 99.9 FM: " Ooh Baby Baby"

Hello! I understand that Linda hasn't had a Top 40 pop hit since 1990. I really don't expect to hear anything from Linda's 90's and 00's albums on the radio (although that sure would be awesome!). What I meant to say was that out of all of her singles hits from the 70's and 80's, this local station only plays the earlier ones, from Prisoner in Disguise and Heart Like a Wheel. They don't play any of the hits from Hasten Down the Wind, Simple Dreams, Back in the USA, etc. At first I thought that it might have been some sort of a license issue, but I don't think so since Linda didn't change record companies or management during that time period. The only thing that I can think of is that the DJs just like her earlier stuff better, or that they aren't too familiar with her entire body of work. Who knows? At least they responded very positively when I first requested that they play Linda, and they still continue to play her regularly, so that makes them my favorite local station ! I hope that everyone is having a fantastic holiday weekend!

that bill medley and bette midler did the song earlier. Bette Midler did the song, not as a duet. Bill Medley did the song, not as a duet. They both recorded the song, but not together.

This morning on KOLA 99.9 FM:
Casey Kasem's American Top 40: The 70s
Week ending January 24, 1976.
Linda's slightly countryish rendition of "The Tracks Of My Tears" enters the Top 40 @ #37.
Also on the Top 40 that week:
TAKE IT TO THE LIMIT--The Eagles LET IT SHINE--Olivia Newton-John LOVE MACHINE (PART 1)--The Miracles CONVOY--C.W. McCall THEME FROM "S.W.A.T."--Rhythm Heritage WHITE KNIGHT--Cletus Maggard FLY AWAY--John Denver LOVE TO LOVE YOU BABY--Donna Summer LET THE MUSIC PLAY--Barry White LOVE ROLLERCOASTER--The Ohio Players
NOTE: This was the fourth straight hit Linda had had where her former backing band (the Eagles) was on the charts at the same time. It was also the third time in her career that Linda had a hit in the Hot 100 at the same time the original artist and/or writer of that record was on the chart ("The Tracks Of My Tears" was a hit for the Miracles in 1965).

Music Choice plays pretty much the same things over and over: "Tracks of My Tears," "You're No Good," "Ooh Baby Baby," "Somewhere Out There," and "Don't Know Much". A few years ago, they actually played "How Do I Make You" on the 80s channel, which was shocking. They use these really unflattering pics of hers, too, usually with her mouth wide open.

I know it is not "the radio," but I was grocery-shopping at Bristol Farms yesterday in the South Bay part of Los Angeles, and on the piped-in music in the store, I heard Linda's voice. It was "Adios." It's funny. I couldn't tell you what played in the store before "Adios" or after it. That's how easy it is for (for me, anyway) to tune out that in-store music. But once my ear detected Linda, boy, they sure did perk up!

Yesterday @ 10:07 PM on KOLA 99.9 FM: " Ooh Baby Baby" This morning on KOLA: Casey Kasem's American Top 40: The 80sWeek ending February 23, 1980 " How Do I Make You?", in its third week on the Top 40, moves up three, from #23 to #20. Also on the charts: AN AMERICAN DREAM--The Dirt Band (w. Linda)LET ME GO LOVE--Nicolette Larson and Michael McDonaldGIVE IT ALL YOU'VE GOT--Chuck Mangione DEJA VU--Dionne Warwick DON'T LET GO--Isaac Hayes COWARD OF THE COUNTY--Kenny Rogers THE LONG RUN--The EaglesWHEN I WANTED YOU--Barry Manilow FOOL IN THE RAIN--Led Zeppelin THREE TIMES IN LOVE--Tommy James In introducing "How Do I Make You?", Casey related two stories as to just how fanatical some of Linda's fans tended to be. One of them swam across the Mississippi River from Louisiana into Mississippi for her, and when arrested, he told the cops "I'm a desperado; Linda'll understand." Another one destroyed a foreign-made car with a sledgehammer outside Linda's family's hardware store in Tucson when he was laughed at by employees after he had asked how Linda was doing. YIPE!!!!

Heard "All My Life" on Music Choice's 90s channel last night. They've been playing "That'll Be the Day" on the Party Channel lately. I've heard "Heat Wave" on that channel, but it's been a good several years.

98.1 FM Madison Wisconsin replay of Casey Kasem's top 40 show from this week in 1980. "How Do I Make You" , it was at #20 in the third week. He told two stories about her crazed fans. One swam a mile across a Mississippi bay to profess his love for her, another went into Ronstadt Hardware in Tucson and asked about her, when the employee made fun of him, he then went out and smashed his car to pieces with a bat in the parking space in front of the store.

This just goes to show you what crazy lengths some people will do to prove their loyalty to Linda. But back in 1980, there was no such thing as the Internet...yet.

Heard "Different Drum" on two different oldies station on Tuesday, in the morning on one station and then in the afternoon on another station. And if that wasn't enough, then heard Linda's version of "It Never Entered My Mind" on a big band-oriented station around ten p.m. I don't ever recall hearing that song by her played on any radio station before, it was a nice surprise to hear it. Now if the radio stations I listen to would just play a few more of her forgotten hits...

Yes, usually on either classic rock or oldies stations where the playlists are 70s and 80s. I can't find anything that says any such station in the Phoenix area has it, but I think you can get it streaming on-line on KOLA 99.9 FM every Sunday morning from 6:00 to 9:00 AM, at this link: www.kolafm.com/Next Sunday, the survey date will be June 7, 1975. That week, Linda was at #6 on the chart with "When Will I Be Loved".
