On The Loft (XM/Sirius) they played "Sweet Spot" from Western Wall and the DJ gave credit to Emmylou Harris AND Linda Ronstadt.
My least favorite song on that album, but, still...
Made me wonder, though, how many tracks from WW with Linda on the lead they would/have played. Not long after playing Sweet Spot they played a song by Patti Griffin which, naturally, made me wonder if they'd dare play Falling Down: after all, it's a track from an album already sampled, it's a song by Patti Griffin, and it has Emmylou on it. I suppose you need Emmylou's lead vocal and "cool factor" to qualify for play time.
Pleased as I was to hear something on the radio from WW, I still had to wonder why that track and not the far superior Falling Down.

Of course Emmy's "out there" and Linda isn't any longer. But I think Emmy herself would find such an excuse for what it is, which is lame and convenient.

Yes, she's out there. If anything, Emmylou seems to be experiencing a kind of resurgence. For example, later this year she will be receiving an ACM Cliffie Stone Pioneer Award honoring individuals who are pioneers in the country music genre. She will be playing the 2012 Regina Folk Festival this August. Juast last year, released her new album ‘Hard Bargain’ of which 11 of 13 tracks are her original songs. Not bad!

Falling Down used to be in regular rotation on Sirius- oddly they only had the artist listed as Linda Ronstadt.

falling down is well done and planned well. it would seem to some degree that she over does the song in parts but it was i'm sure planned that way to show the desparation the person is going through in song and the tone and music add to the person's chaotic feelings. eddiejinnj

I -- indeed, most of us here -- are huge Emmylou fans. All her success, her popularity, is hard earned and worthy. I bought Pieces of the Sky when it was first released and nearly everything since.
I don't begrudge Harris anything. I love her.
But I also love Ronstadt and feel that she doesn't get the respect she deserves -- and has earned. Most people are ignorant of the breadth and depth of her entire career. To say nothing of her health and well being.

i like emmylou. i really don't listen to her outside songs she is on with linda. i have on occasion listened to the song wrecking ball. i would want linda's career, even being retired as of now than emmylou's. she still is not a megaseller. don't getme wrong she is talented but her voice for me does not do what linda's does. eddiejinnj

emmylou is a fighter-- she will never retire- unfortunatey Linda is a quitter. There's always been a question as to if and when older performers should retire, but no one should criticize those who decide to keep working nor should anyone criticize those who decide to call it a day. Linda's not a quitter just because she decided the time was right to retire. Emmy wants to keep performing, I cheer her for that. Linda wants to retire, wish it wasn't so but I still cheer her decision to retire and wish her well. She's given of herself and she's more than earned her right to a peaceful, quiet life in retirement if she so chooses.

I meant to post on here the other day that when one of the Eagles' songs was on the Music Choice "Classic RocK" station (a station you NEVER hear Linda on), it mentioned that they started out as members of her backup band.

I heard Heatwave in the grocery store the other day and That'll Be the Day on XM 70. I heard Heatwave in the grocery store the other day, too!! Now I'm curious as to what chain you heard it in. I heard it in Woodman's, which is a small local Wisconsin/Northern Illinois chain.

Last night at 10:13 PM on KSWD 100.3 FM (The Sound)
10 @ 10 (1975)
"Prisoner In Disguise"
DJ Rita Wilde was very complimentary about Linda, saying she was the kind of woman a lot of men would have liked to have, and one that a lot of women aspired to be if their goal in life was to be a singer.
Short Comment: This is true.

"Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me"--a song about suicide, gang rape, and all other forms of S&M that one engages in on Sundays (LOL).

On my Linda Ronstadt Station on Pandora yesterday they played THE EAGLES, two to one compared with RONSTADT herself, they played Carole King more times than Ronstadt as well. what does that tell ya?

...add to that the fact that Ronstadt has released twice as many studio recording than the Eagles and King!

I can't stand listening to those types of stations hoping and wishing they play something by Linda. I just grab everything I can off of youtube and use that.
