The movie has been shown on TV several times over the years. The live version at the Delacorte Theatre and on Broadway was a thousand times better than the movie. Amazon sells a poor quality video of a performance at the Delacorte, but it captures the essence of that wonderful production. PoP80 I agree. The filmed stage performance seems more spontaneous between its characters, and while the movie was miked (sic), the stage was live. PoP movie does give more close-ups of Linda though. I do like the little fanfare Linda/Mabel has on entry for "Poor Wandr'n One" on the live

I was lucky enough to get front row seats a few times (after waiting all day in the Park for random seat assignments), so I must say that was much better than close-ups of Linda on film!!

I like that Linda & Rex don't sound too stage-y

Ah rick, I was wondering who the lady was in the rehearsal photo I posted above. The one character that seemed wrong in the Papp production was its Police Sergeant, for my taste. I was wondering if he was played by a woman mimicing a man, the lady beside Linda.

heartbreaker, Tony Azito played the police sergeant. I saw "Pirates" on Broadway and, in my opinion, he was perfect for that Keystone Kops quality the policemen had. Sadly, Tony Azito died from AIDS.

Yeah, that was sad, Rick. I thought he was quick on his feet and his character quite comical. I'd loved when he stopped and the rest of the cops bout fell on him. They were funny. eddiejinnj

Guess I'm used to gruffer sounding sergeants.
That black pirate looks like Mr.T!

The last pic with Rex above, he really looks in awe and almost smitten-like. Great outdoor pic. eddiejinnj

Rex was in character with that expression, as Frederik is supposed to be completely captivated and in awe of his first encounter with Mabel. I'm sure Rex admired Linda, but not to that extent onstage--lol.

Linda's Mabel is acted as a savvy young lady of the time, mostly in control, but frustrated by her intended's duty dogma.
Mabel is not part of her sisters' group, is she the oldest daughter of the Major General, so a more mature "big sister"?

She is supposed to be confident and headstrong, as compared with other more "foolish" sisters (maidens).

I was not trying to suppose his mindset but you have to wonder if he thought she was remarkable re: her singing role. No bubble to burst. :-} I was not being tabloid-like supposing something that nobody by that pic imo should suppose. Like I said a great pic; one of the best I've seen of the Central Park shows. eddiejinnj
PS: To give him credit, Rex did a more than adequate job acting the role!!!! I probably should have said that he looked what I think I looked like while seeing her shake the Uris Theater with her powerful vocals.

I really like PoP …. I think everyone involved did a thoroughly great job on it - Linda, Rex, Kevin and Angela.
Even the staging is fun with it’s cartoon-like feel.

Was there ever an album release of the movie soundtrack as opposed to stage?

Was there ever an album release of the movie soundtrack as opposed to stage? I could be mistaken but, I thought Peter Asher had said it was recorded and never released.
