Does anyone know if Linda’s son and daughter were at the ceremony? I know John Boylan, Peter Asher and Janet Stark were there, but I didn’t see any pictures of her kids.

I think it was an attempt to connect it to the albums of American standards Linda did with Nelson Riddle in the mid-80s. I agree that it wasn't totally successful, but it was a long way from a train wreck.
I also want to put in a good word for Flor de Toloache, the all-female NYC mariachi quartet who did a splendid job of celebrating the Mexican-American side of Linda's music and life with "La Cigarra". It was a very high-spirited performance (IMHO).

Linda certainly looked as pleased as all-get-out at the fact that this was a totally women's ensemble. As a matter of fact, she was really pleased with everything about her segment, and we know she's a tough customer on anything having to do with her.

Yeah, Linda is a tough customer but mainly about herself. I'm sure in her opinion, they all sang better and out performed her.. lol All were good yes. but I would probably disagree with her. lol

Greatest hits is at #9 on the ITunes charts, the highest I've ever seen it since Feb when it was at #4. Canciones is at #68.

That is Great!!! germancanadian... She's probably going to be on a roll, especially with her movie on CNN. Boy, I've been hearing lots of praise from random people about the kennedy Centers and how impressed they were.. and a lot of people have seen her movie too.. Somebody on another site not linda related brought up the kennedy centers and I was surprised at all the positive comments and many have seen the movie.

For me, Emmylou, a genuine surprise for Linda, was the best moment--"my sister, my dear companion..." I agree. That moment when Linda jumped in total surprise and delight just got to me. She clearly wasn't expecting to see Emmylou there, so it made for one nice gift for Linda. And I was crying right along with her, I don't mind saying.

I wasn't sure about Carrie's arrangement of Blue Bayou.. Wish she would have stuck to Linda's version IMO I don't believe Carrie's band was there. Otherwise, her version might have been closer to Linda's. I noticed the same band that backed Carrie also backed Trisha, so I'm guessing they had a house band.

Just an observation about last night's ceremony. Carrie Underwood and Trisha Yearwood are excellent singers and they paid lovely tributes. But they don't have magical voices--that's the only word that I can come up with to describe Linda's voice. Which I guess is a big reason why we're all on this board and why she was sitting in the box last night. As Eve Babitz wrote in her dedications in "Eve's Hollywood": "And to Linda Ronstadt for 'Long, Long Time,' earrings, Arizona and that voice, my God." I agree Rob, both are very good singerss, and I really like both women..But Nobody can sing like Linda.. Nobody can match her beautiful crystal clear tone. I always go back to Linda when I need to feels chills, and to be transported to another place.. well IMO
I think it goes deeper than that. There is something very different about Linda's voice. It's a "brain" thing. Linda is like a human entrainment device. Years ago, back in the 1970's or very early 80's I was watching a science show on PBS about how sound and the human voice can affect us. Lo and behold guess who showed up on screen? Linda Ronstadt was in a studio setting and they were describing how this stuff relates. I don't believe they even mentioned it was her and the segment she appeared lasted about a minute or so. I have never been able to find that show again. If you really want a transcendent experience try plugging a Ronstadt song into a light and sound brain entrainment device. If you purchase one make sure one of the settings is at least 40 hz. It has been discovered that this wavelength flushes out the brain plaque that is responsible for Alzheimer's and other neurological diseases. Perhaps Linda should start listening to her own music. There is an irony there. I touched upon this in my LIGHT AND SOUND thread in the War Room.

German, thanks for chart update. Why does it seem that from the limited amount I have seen iTunes and Billboard charts (used to go to the local bookstore to see Linda in the Billboards charts) that the 2 charts don't seem to match up closely? Is it iTunes is more fluid and updated more frequently like Amazon? Any insight would be mucho appreciated. I wish I had taken Spanish in HS. I was in accelerated eighth grade and the language arts teacher convinced me on Latin. Well at least after 2 years in Latin I can say "pulchra puella" pretty girl. eddiejinnj

Billboard just gets updated once a week. I think ITunes charts just counts digital downloads and Amazon is mostly cds/vinyl. Billboard charts count sales from cds/vinyl, downloads and streaming so younger artists usually chart higher. Live in Hollywood was #97 in it's first week on Billboard, but it would have been in the top ten if they had only counted cds/vinyl.

I was thinking this was a political trolling hit as well. It is a preview of things to come. We haven't seen anything yet. Impeachment of Trump will unleash an explosion of hate and retribution. (not that we haven't been experiencing it already but for many it was in the "unseen, oblivious" mode) The Ronstadt meme may have been the opening shot and now we have the opening canon: www.yahoo.com/entertainment/trump-accuses-nancy-pelosi-declaring-195814328.html Material for the War Room.Linda Ronstadt Identified as ‘Rollerskate Hooker’ in ‘Kennedy Center’ TelecastBy CHRIS WILLMAN
Of all the plaudits Linda Ronstadt expected to receive when she was bestowed with kudos at the Kennedy Center Honors, “Rollerskate Hooker” was probably not among them. Yet that was one of the captions in a Ronstadt photo montage when CBS broadcast an hour of highlights from the annual Washington, D.C. ceremony Monday night.
The modified image took the iconic album cover photo of Ronstadt standing in a hallway on a pair of rollerskates — from “Living in the USA,” a No. 1 LP in 1978 — and replaced the album title with the none-too-flattering moniker in question.
As of Tuesday morning, the image was still in the version of the show streaming on the CBS website, but that will quickly change. Now that it’s been brought to light, the errant cover image will be replaced in the master tape as well as the streaming version. The Kennedy Center Honors are produced by CBS and White Cherry Entertainment. CBS has yet to comment on the situation.
Assuming that the vandalized image was probably retrieved in error off the Internet, it’s not clear where anyone involved with supplying resources for the production would have come across it. When Variety did Google searches for the phrase “rollerskate hooker” and for images of Ronstadt on skates immediately after the broadcast, the fake cover in question did not show up in any initial lists of top search results.
Among the eagle-eyed viewers who spotted the bizarre “cover” as it appeared on screen Monday during Don Henley’s introductory narration was Portland writer and radio host Jeff Rosenberg. “Seriously, #KCHonors?” Rosenberg tweeted. “You let some dumb intern assemble graphics for the #LindaRonstadt tribute, and instead of Living in the USA’s cover, show a meme where someone’s replaced the album title with ‘Rollerskate Hooker’?! #qualitycontrol #sorryLinda #KCDishonor #rollerskatehooker”
twitter.com/JeffBRosenberg
Ronstadt being the subject of a Photoshop prank could have been random, but her outspokenness might also have made her a target for trolls, as the singer has rarely been shy about speaking up on social and political issues over the decades.
At a dinner for Kennedy Center honorees Dec. 7, Ronstadt responded to a quip made by secretary of state Mike Pompeo that referenced one of her signature hits: “As I travel the world, I wonder when will I be loved” Later in the dinner, Ronstadt got up and said, as her sole remarks for the evening, “I’d like to say to Mr. Pompeo, who wonders when he’ll be loved, it’s when he stops enabling Donald Trump.”

Yep, there is is. I taped it from CBS Sunday night. Flashed by so fast that I didn't notice. The other tip-off is that there's no colon on the actual album cover. Incredibly shoddy research for the Kennedy Center Honors--no one noticed this when they were assembling the clips? I expect that Linda will take it with her usual good humor and sanguinity but someone owes her an apology. I remember thinking that the Hall of Fame album cover segment was done better. The Kennedy Center Honors should have gone in order from the first Stone Poneys album to "Adieu False Heart." Not that hard to find. Hell, all they had to do was go to the Albums section on this site. The biggest sin of the mistake (or hack or whatever happened) is that it's just flat-out stoopid. What does "rollerskate hooker" even mean? If you're going to go to all the trouble of doctoring an album cover to make a point, political or otherwise, at least do it intelligently. Reminds me of walking past Tower Records in the East Village in 2003. There was a large poster of Streisand's "Movie Album" cover in the window and every day for weeks someone would write on her face in black marker "Leftist Whore." Tower would wipe it off and the next day it would be back. Even THAT made more sense than "rollerskate hooker." At least there was a clear political motivation, however misguided the method was.

Seeing Linda's two reactions of, first, extreme astonishment, and second, being in tears (again, tears of joy, I'd like to think) at Trisha onstage saluting her in song, it makes me believe that, while she may no longer have the ability to sing in actuality, she now sees for herself just how unbelievably influential she has been and still remains among her fans and her peers after half a century. She may still be hard on herself (and we can't do anything about that), but, to paraphrase what Glenn Frey sang in the Eagles' mariachi-flavored "It's Your World Now", she was part of something good, and, wherever she goes next, she'll leave something good behind for generations of aspiring female singers to learn from.

I wouldn't doubt it. It's likely that Emmy remembers those earrings that Linda wore back in the day because she saw Linda performing at Greenwich Village back in 1969, when she (Emmy) was, by her own admission, a "struggling Joan Baez wanna-be".
Emmy has always been very good about remembering these things and remembering her sister, her dear companion. And I thank her for it.
