I was googling and saw a link to Andy Griffith's (RIP - he and Brad Paisley made the news the last Pres.Election on being a good Southern Democrat ) shortlived show The Headmaster. LR did the theme song - the google link had the music at: www.tvobscurities.com/articles/headmaster/but I also see that the host site has it at: www.ronstadt-linda.com/headmast.htmThere was a recent CD that had another earlier LR song "So Fine" Classic West Coast Rock 'N' Roll I find these songs fascinating. Any others out there?

Here are a couple of examples:
Back in October 2009, Raven, an Australian import label, released Linda's first two solo albums (1969's Hand Sown, Home Grown; 1970's Silk Purse) onto a single CD with a big bonus song at the end: her very rarely heard (and minor) 1971 hit "She's A Very Lovely Woman", which a lot of Ronstadt fans had been hungering for.
A year later, Raven released onto a single CD both Linda Ronstadt and Heart Like A Wheel, with three bonus tracks. One was "Can It Be True?", which was featured in the 1971 film MARRIAGE OF A YOUNG STOCKBROKER. The other two were "Living Like A Fool" and "He Darked The Sun", which Linda had recorded for the extremely rare "jam" album Free Creek in New York in July 1969 with her band the Corvettes. "Can It Be True" was also on Capitol's own 2-CD 2006 set The Best Of Linda Ronstadt: The Capitol Years.

In addition to the West Coast CD, another minor CD compilation that contains a rare LR guest appearance is "Out of Nowhere: The White Whale Story, Vol. 2" that contains the "The Spirit of Christmas" (see GuestAppearances.pdf file on Ronstadt-Linda.com) B-side "Will You Still Believe in Me" LR duet (written by R.A.Kimmel - the Bobby Kimmel of Stone Poneys?). It also contains the A-side "Christmas Is My Time of Year" but I can't hear discern LR's distinctive voice in the huge chorus.
By the way, speaking of singles, I can't find the Hudson Bros. song "Afraid of Love" with LR duet - supposedly included on one of their "Greatest Hits" albums - but nothing on CD or to record from YouTube videos" (how I captured Just Can't Let Go from Rosemary Butler with LR background vocals).

There's a lost Linda song nobody seems to talk about, she sang the theme song to the 1970 Andy Griffith tv show "Headmaster'' but it got cancelled within months and the song has not been heard for 50 years. I guess The Paley Center has one episode of 'Headmaster' so if anyone visits in NY or CA, try to get the song on your phone, thanks!

If you Google Ronstadt and Headmaster, it will take you to this page. There are two musical symbols you can click on, and you can hear Linda singing the theme. Never heard of this show or this song before. www.ronstadt-linda.com/headmast.htmPS Not sure why this thread appeared in an inquiry about Philip Glass.

These songs have come up before. We just don't talk about them as much. Thanks for reminding us.

I have to get that "Out of Nowhere" release for "Will you Still Believe in Me?. Is that one the B-side of the original Christmas Spirit single? I am thinking I have that one but I could be thinking of a different one. eddiejinnj

So Fine sounds like something the Mamas and Papas would record.

I would say "So Fine" would be the earliest recorded (entire) song I've heard, unless someone can find any complete recordings with her brother and sister in Tucson (she played a couple of clips during the lectures I attended a few years ago).

From Wikipedia on The Stone Poneys
'The band was discovered by a couple of music industry executives while rehearsing at a soul food restaurant called Olivia's, located in Ocean Park, a community between Venice Beach and Santa Monica. Olivia's was famous for its food and clientele, including The Doors. In 1965, they recorded the Johnny Otis song "So Fine" and several others. Mike Curb, who at that time was working for Mercury, produced the sessions. The record company wanted them to change the groverup's name to "The Signets" and sing surf music, which the trio chose not to do.'
"Everyone Has There Own Ideas" is the last track on Box Set Rarities disc, it was the B side to "So Fine".
What were the "several others"?
Wikipedia:
"So Fine" single After "Different Drum" became a hit, Mike Curb pulled out two of the recordings he had produced back in 1965, "So Fine" and "Everybody Has His Own Ideas", and decided to release them in 1968 as a 45 on his label Sidewalk, which was a Capitol subsidiary. The single was put out without the knowledge of Capitol – or Mercury either, for that matter, who had paid for the recording session. Capitol record company executives were understandably furious, and the single was immediately pulled from the market. Thus, this disk has become one of the rarest Linda Ronstadt collectables

My guess is that those songs were probably buried by the record label, or by the Stone Poneys themselves (including the always-self-critical Linda herself, of course).

For completeness. I prefer this as Linda's singing is so prominent. Nice little trio of performances, more awesome due to Linda's youth. You don't have to be a professional talent scout to recognise Linda's potential. Which order did Linda sing the 3 songs in?

I love the song "One on One". These vids really display that Linda in this case is soooo much better live than the recorded version during her Stone Poneys years. I really think the limitations of recording equipment really did Linda a disservice as she WAS better than the recordings especially during the SP era.
eddiejinnj
PS: Is there other documentation that this song "West Wind" was actually recorded and there is a master? I am not sure I have ever heard of that one. I have the Sidewalk 45 but did this "West Wind" song ever make it past a master? I see this was a master and both songs registered on my 5th birthday!!!

Any live Linda performance of a song on "Don't Cry Now" will be better. Those early 70s studio recordings were only 2 track, usually one of vocal, one of instrumental. I remember reading the earliest albums started with mono releases.
Sausalito '73 is a good pre-HLAW Linda concert recording you can buy on CD.
