This was confusing to me at first.
Barnes and Noble is coming out with a special edition of Get Closer on gold vinyl to be released on September 4.
Now, Friday Music, who have previously released special editions of Living in the USA and Mad Love, are releasing this translucent red marble vinyl version of Get Closer, to be released on November 6.
It seems to me that Friday Music is making a mistake here and maybe should have done some research and instead scheduled a release for a clear ice vinyl version of Winter Light.

A chipped ice vinyl would be cool for Winter Light!!! Red makes sense for "Get Closer". It is/was a gold album (has to be Platinum by now) but Red Vinyl cool. I got 2 sets of pristine red vinyl 45's one was a 3 45 set (Swan Lake) and one a 5 45 set. I just loved the perfect red vinyl. eddiejinnj

I am not sure how good Winter Light would be on vinyl. With all the synthesizers and the glass armonica Trio 2 sounds awful on vinyl. I heard from others that bought Trio 2 on vinyl who felt the same. The first Trio album sounds excellent on vinyl. With Winter Light being heavy on synthesizers and glass armonica I fear it would be equally as bad as Trio 2 on vinyl. Having said that, I would be sure to buy an LP version of Winter Light anyway. And yes, I do have a good turntable, speakers, and receiver. Post 600

I loved the CD era, and I hate that it is diminishing to the point that I rarely see any of my long-forgotten favorite albums finally being released on CD.

the quality of some of the releases on vinyl is questionable ..... I didn't think the Friday Music Mad Love pink vinyl sounded that good either. I've played the reissued Trio and Trio II albums, but can't remember specifically anything about the quality. For me its more of a collectible item but do think that sound should be good. (I too have a decent turntable and stereo system). I have now though ordered both versions of Get Closer reissue (gold vinyl and red marble) so there is an influx of "new" Linda coming my way I tried to get a remastered CLARHLTW reissued (with extras / bonus cuts), contacting John Boylan and George Massenburg to celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2019 ..... I was told there is no interest from Linda / John but George was very interested.

In my opinion, the biggest roadblock preventing getting anything released is Linda and John Boylan.
It took years for Live in Hollywood to surface and even now the full concert has not been released. The market response was good for both the album and the TV show. Yet John keeps giving the reasons why not rather than giving the market what was being asked for (ie: the full concert)
Apparently Linda / John are totally unaware that unofficial releases are taking their market.

I was told there is no interest from Linda / John but George was very interested. I would love to have a new release of Cry Like A Rainstorm (probably my favorite Ronstadt album next to Heart Like a Wheel) especially if at least 2 bonus cuts appear. Would it possibly be more effective to try to get one of the labels that specializes in CD reissues interested in such a project? Or would the whole idea be nixed because Linda has control over what comes out of the vault?

My friend, Robk, would absolutely love a re-release with 2 added bonus cuts as the Boss says. Don't get me wrong, I do too, but he bought so many copies of that album over the years and technically his diva is Reba (whom I like too especially her onscreen/concert personality). eddiejinnj

As I said George Massenburg was really keen and liked the idea of several bonus cuts ..... but Linda and John can’t be bothered.
I think someone could reissue CLARHLTW, such as Friday Music but without any extras

Fab —
If anyone says that to John Boylan he always has some lame excuse. It’s too bad Linda doesn’t have someone more concerned about what Linda’s music means to her fans. He just doesn’t have the oomph or heft or whatever-you-want-to-call-it to get things done.

To be honest....I don't know where I can start with an opinion on this subject.
Okay...to be honest, I think it comes down to Linda having been for years seemingly incapable of really "getting" why her music endures, or even believing that it has endured at all; and now it's a bit too late for her . It genuinely hurts to have to say this, because this is probably as critical as I've been of her comments, actions, or behaviors for all the times I've been on these forums, but I'm not going to lie about it.

Looking at another popular female artist, who shone brighter than Linda Ronstadt in the breakout year of 1967 but fizzled commercially in subsequent years, Bobbie Gentry, we recently got a deluxe box set with every one of her albums + a lot of bonus tracks: The Girl From Chickasaw County - The Complete Capitol Masters [8 CD]I purchased this set and I thought well that's it for Bobbie Gentry this is everything but no a year and a half later we are getting a deluxe 2-CD edition of one of the albums in that set, The Delta Sweete, with an entire disc of extras: The Delta Sweete [Deluxe Edition 2-CD]The Delta Sweete was not a big-selling album. It did not even crack the Top 100 on the album charts in 1968. Ode to Billie Joe was a #1 album but the only other album Gentry had to crack the Top 100 was Fancy at #96. I think it is wonderful that artists like Bobbie Gentry can get their albums reissued, especially in such deluxe packages. But those looking after Ronstadt's legacy say that CD's do not sell. Obviously a special edition Ronstadt album will not sell a million copies these days, or even half that, so if that's their benchmark, we will see no more special editions. But if a record company was given permission to give those old Ronstadt albums a special edition, I'm sure they would sell enough copies to make a profit. And I'm not even talking about the half-assed 40th anniversary edition like the one they threw together for Simple Dreams, which did not even include a bonus track of the never-on-CD hit song Lago Azul. I'm talking about a real special edition put together by someone who is a fan and will design a beautiful collectible package. Linda Ronstadt was and still remains one of the best-selling artists of all time. Her legacy is being squandered by her team and deliberately suppressed by curators at satellite radio, who do not have any one of her 3 best-selling songs on the playlist on their decades hits stations.

there is a huge missed opportunity here .... and I agree Linda needs someone more business savvy who will carefully and respectfully exploit her body of work, rather than let it fizzle out.

Just want to ask, it may seem naive, and make sure: the two Get Closer releases are "official" releases, correct? In that, Linda gets some money from them? eddiejinnj

I think a compilation album she should put out is Classical Ronstadt. Her two vocal pieces from the glass album. Some Phillip Glass stuff (there is a lot of it actually.) 2 from Pirates. Ave Maria with Aaron, something choral from the Christmas record, maybe My Funny Valentine because of the arrangement, and maybe her song Winter Light too. Them add in a rare snippet from La Boheme as a bonus track, which I know exists from a fine sounding media handout from the time (not talking about some audience tape recorder thing.) She’s mentioned she sang with Placido Domingo once, not sure what that was.

Answering my own question. It was Mariachi so it would not fit on that kind of Record.

Well, If both Linda and John aren't involved in these colored vinyl reissues, then who is?
Does the record label sell the rights to third-parties to put these out?
There has to be an official "supply line", what with copyrights and all.

I got the B&N version of Get Closer yesterday. It's also done by Friday music, and is 180g vinyl. The color is more of a muted gold, almost khaki to my old eyes. Kinda blah, honestly. They did a nice jacket though - it's a gatefold with the old paper sleeve inner material printed inside. Friday does do a great job with the jackets I think.
I listened to it sort of in the background and it was clean, no noticeable pops or tics. Sounded OK, maybe a little flat, but I didn't have it cranked up. It's a really uneven album song-wise - lots of genre jumping but that's Linda, isn't it...
My Blue Tears was a song I never really liked that much, but now with the Trio LPs in our history, you can see just how beautifully these 3 people harmonize together in this track. This is one of my favorite things about having these old albums reissued - you hear things with a new mindset, and an album like Get Closer, which I rarely listen to anymore, can be appreciated in a new light.
I look forward to the red marble version - bet that will look sweet on the 'table!

I am pretty sure I know what color it is. I have seen gold vinyl that looks muted, too. Thanks for your input, mcd. I was just thinking that I know we probably discussed it but what if they mixed in MBT and SYJCW the song order vs placing them at the end. MBT might have gone better after TMIAHM and before "I Knew You When". You still would be going with ballad before the first notes of IKYW. Maybe put SYCW after "Mr. Radio". eddiejinnj

The album package is very nice. I like it so much better than the original version in which you have to ruin the cover to poster it on the wall. I know someone who did this. The gold color is most unattractive. It looks the color of cat food that did not stay down. But it photographed better than it actually looks: And if you hold it up to a light source, you can see the gold, although not a homogeneous color-- I don't like that: When will the red vinyl version be released?

When will the red vinyl version be released? Can a red-and-white polka dot version be far behind?

Just received my Barnes & Noble edition of Get Closer. Was not expecting much in way of sound because I had been disappointed with Friday’s Music’s LP version of Living in the USA. This Friday Music version of Get Closer from Barnes & Noble doesn’t sound half bad. I guess now I will try their LP rerelease of Mad Love.

Red vinyl is coming on November 6th, according to Amazon & Friday's sites. Color is a little more appropriate!!!
Now we desperately need a blue CLARHLTW (Please!!!!!!), a white Western Wall, a gold Don't Cry Now, a Blue HDTW, a red PID....I could go on.... ;-)

Vinyl is wonderful if there is enough demand to sell these, but I would prefer deluxe CD editions with bonus songs. I don't know they're out there, but I just know it.

Boss, want me to call them for ya and say what a crappy job they did with the vinyl? That gold record is not nice and I agree with you. They should have just released it in red. If any record out there should be red it is "Get Closer". eddiejinnj

You would call Friday music. But I recall on their website they encouraged fans to ask questions or comment, so I did, but I got no response.
I never see any Linda Ronstadt LPs in stores that sell new vinyl records. What's up with that?
