Linda has had some wonderful album covers over the years - award winning in fact with the help of Kosh, Robert Blakeman and others. I'm disappointed with the quality of some of the covers you can find online for iTunes/iPhones etc and so I've tweaked and taken a bit of creative licence with some of them. A couple are here if anyone wants them? - Canciones De Mi Padre - vinyl
- Cry Like A Rainstorm, Howl Like The Wind - vinyl
- You Know You're No Good - Linda & Amy Winehouse mashup
- Frenesi - vinyl
- Cry Like A Rainstorm, Howl Like The Wind - alternative vinyl

I learned that in other parts of the world they spell license "licence" when used as a noun. As a verb Fab would spell it the same we do in both noun and verb form. You learn something new every day!!!!!!! Aren't you an Aussie, Fab? eddiejinnj

I was thinking UK or France?
We needed a cover for You Know You're No Good. Probably the best mashup although I do like the Walk Away Renee version that Harold (from the forum) made. Evidently it was quite a task to make it sound so good according to other engineers.

I’m from UK - London in fact! Yes the mashup of Walk Away Renee is great too .... I just use the AFH cover for that track but maybe I’ll try and make one for that. I also made an alternative Duets album cover as, no disrespect to the designer of the original one, I was disappointed such an old photo was used. All of the recent compilation albums have 70s photos on them and Linda had a great career after the 70s - I want to celebrate that I’ll pop the one in the folder later too

Oh, "Get Closer" had no radio hits. I didn't know that. Great article but they actually wrote that there were no radio hits on the album. 2 Top 40's plus a Top Ten AC hit (the "GC" single was Grammy nominated as was the album) Not tooo shabby (in my Adam Sandler imitation)!! Thanks a lot for finding the article, Rick. Kosh is interesting to read about. All have a great Sunday!!! eddiejinnj

Nice article, thanks. I always thought GC was underrated as an album and a cover..

Excellent. Love the photo of Kosh and Linda on the street. The all-red-stripe socks are different from the black- and black-and-red-stripe ones on the album cover/inner sleeve and "Back in the USA" sleeve and in the tour program. I never knew that she was on the phone with Jerry for the "Mad Love" cover or that she was wearing Kosh's wife's dress for "Get Closer." But not sure that I (or anyone else) would describe "Tumbling Dice" as a ballad.

Quote by RobGNYC:
I'm not sure what the writer had ingested, drunk, or inhaled when writing that "Tumbling Dice" was a ballad (say what?!).
What this does show on a more personal level, though, is that, throughout all the many decades of changes and stylistic endeavors that Linda went through, she did manage to maintain many of her friendships from decades ago even to today, including with Kosh. It would seem that there are a lot more things in her past that she used to be, at best, ambivalent about, but that she has come to see with a bit more of a philosophical outlook (IMHO).

The long-lasting friendships with her collaborators, from a very tumultuous era,is quite remarkable. "She's the most fascinating woman...I have ever known" Kosh You simply do not hear that about popular singers. Not Streisand, not Nicks, not Aretha, not Dolly ... Great talents but rarely beloved as Linda. Very rare.

Nice article, thanks. I always thought GC was underrated as an album and a cover.. Robert, I loved the "Get Closer" album package! And not too under-rated, since it did win a Grammy for album design. Clearly the person writing the article doesn't know the song "Tumbling Dice" because it can't be considered a ballad. At least KOSH spent the time going through the different album covers. As for radio hits on "Get Closer," I believe what hurt the song "Get Closer" is that it was on the radio when someone sold the rights to Close-Up toothpaste so the song was ubiquitous on TV in commercials.... "Want loooooooove? Get Close-up!" I think that hurt the song as it climbed the charts. She did perform the song at The Grammys.

I remember I went to visit my Dad and little brother the night she was on the Grammys for "Get Closer". The ad first aired 4/18/86 during a broadcast of "Friday Night Videos". eddiejinnj

It's so much to read the backstories behind all the album covers. I used to look so forward to each new release to see the cover designs and the read the liner notes. Kosh did a great job of capturing Linda's style and personality. His appreciation of her as an artist and unique individual is apparent in these classic collaborations.

That shows the difference in Linda's era and today. Today if you had a song in a commercial while it was a current chart item, it would be considered genius promotion. A lot of things Linda was criticized for are now the new normal.

I saw Linda in concert in 1990 and she sang 'Get Closer', saying she it 'asked to be included' after a TV commercial ..

I would guess Linda wanted to sing it. As usual Linda follows her own muse..

Get Closer never sounds quite right to me Live compared to the recording. Nothing to do with her singing, it’s just the arrangements I guess. I think almost all her songs are As good or even better live so that might be the lone exception. “I Can’t Let Go” for example is way better live. She kept that one in her set list for a long time. Must be fun to sing. She rarely did “Easy For You To Say” live and it is so good that way, thank god she did it that once on Johnny Carson’s show. I was delighted when she dusted off “It Doesn't Matter Anymore” and did it live during the EmmyLou tour but she explained to the audience that Emmylou “forced” her to do it, saying “Emmy must be obeyed.” Interesting what she chose to sing live and what she did not. I am really hoping a live “Try Me Again” is out there. I’ve never heard it.

Yes, Linda shared the Arts Center bill with the Neville brothers and sang some duets with Aaron Neville.

Anyone ever notice that the only "real" things in the GC album cover are Linda's face and hair? All the rest -- dress, shoes, earrings, legs, arms -- is fake.
One of my favorite album covers, especially, as Eddie said, when opened up.
Only wish there'd beed an additional photo on the album sleeve.

It's even funnier that the dress belonged to Kosh's wife. so even that's not authentic! I do like the album cover, though--much better than the awkward video shown on MTV.

She looks so uncomfortable that it makes me uncomfortable to watch her in it, knowing that video is not her art form. And yes, it is funny that she borrowed Kosh's wife's dress but that actual dress is not used -- it's "Photoshopped" on her! I've always liked the PID cover. Noticed that no mention was made in the article of the dreaded Feels Like Home cover...

Agree that the GC video is embarrassing. Maybe something about that dress unhinged her--the "Tumbling Dice" duet with Leo Sayer? One of the few times I've wondered "what was she thinking?"
