Quote by jhar26: While Taylor may be no great shakes as a singer, I don't think Beyoncé is any better. I was only joking with the Kanye West comment, Erik. But as you know from our forum, I don't mind having contrary opinions. And so, in my opinion Beyonce wipes the floor with all other current 'queen of pop' contenders. That doesn't mean that she's a huge favorite of mine, not even in the field of what they laughably, crazily, refer to as R&B these days. Someone like a Erikah Badu is miles ahead of her imo. And I only (very) rarely listen to Beyonce or any other contemporary chart music for that matter. But since I never (and I do mean NEVER) listen to the radio I was (and still am mostly) totally clueless about contemporary pop. I only knew people like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus,Taylor Swift, Beyonce and even post 'Oops, I Did it Again' Britney Spears as names. Through the various forums and sites like All Music Guide, Rate Your Music and tips from people such as yourself I select what I listen to on Spotify and youtube and if I like what I hear enough I buy it. I find this a much more effective way of discovering new music that I may like than sitting through 40 minutes of shite on the radio in the hope that they will at long last play something good. But anyway, about a year ago I decided for the sake of fairness to give those "queens of pop" a chance to convince me of their talents. Who knows? Maybe they would surprise me in a positive way. So I went to youtube one evening with the intention of giving each one of them 15 minutes of my time. I only looked at concert footage because videos (barring some rare exceptions) don't do it for me. Most of them didn't make it to that 15 minutes mark though. I thought they were horrible. Most of them had the theatrical aspect down very well, but my reaction to much of the music was WTF. A minor exception was Rihanna. She didn't blow me away, but I can see (and hear) why people like her - she's ok. The last one I checked out was Beyoncé and after all the drivel that I had seen and heard in the 90 minutes preceding it I have to admit that she was a revelation. I kept watching/listening to her for as long as all the others combined. She was the best of them by a huge margin as far as I'm concerned. The best of a pretty misarable bunch for sure, but nevertheless 'the best.' And she's very charismatic as well, has strenght of personality. And no, all of the above doesn't mean that I'm a huge Beyonce fan. In fact, I haven't listened to any Beyonce music in seven or eight months and I haven't even checked out her most recent album on Spotify (although Kanye West has convinced me that I should one of these days ), but even so, Beyoncé has the jhar26 seal of approval.

When Britney Spears came onto the scene with '...Baby One More Time' there were other female artists releasing music not too long after who were getting compared to her, Jessica Simpson, Christina Aguilera, Mandy Moore (to name a few). Jessica Simpson stood out for me and I've been a fan ever since I heard the power-ballad 'I Wanna Love You Forever' and own all her albums. However, although I don't think Britney can come close to Jessica in the vocal department she is in another league as an entertainer. For me she is the Janet Jackson of her generation. Both Janet and Britney are no Linda Ronstadt, Mariah Carey or Tina Arena when it comes to singing but they know how to put on a show. I'm glad that Britney's Las Vegas residency has been a big hit, I don't think there's anyone of her generation who could have a sell-out show on most nights for six months of the year and also have an impressive and enjoyable back catalogue.

Quote by Taylor Swift in Daily Mail article:
Taylor ought to know by now that life, especially when you are in the spotlight to the degree that she is, isn't always going to be fair. The Harry Truman rule applies to her: "If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen."
