I happenned to look over these 2 lists:
100 greatest artists - from Rolling Stone magazine 100 greatest artists - from VH1
Only a few artists I like made the list, but these artists I like did not:
Linda Ronstadt Maria Muldaur Anne Murray Bette Midler Laura Nyro Melanie Rita Coolidge David Cassidy Partridge Family
I guess I am an old fuddy duddy!

I do think that Linda made #21 on VH-1's 1999 "100 Best Women In Rock" list, though of course that was then.
However, you aren't alone in liking artists who are either not popular (yet, anyway) or are "unhip." I think a lot of us like artists who fall through the cracks. It's all a part of being true to oneself (IMHO).

Such lists are unimportant, even if Linda Ronstadt is on them.
Any list from Rolling Stone is automatically suspect with me.
Frankly, I am always surprised when someone I like does achieve popularity with the masses.
I just got through alphabetizing my CD collection, so it became obvious who I have a lot of CDs by-- I guess that makes the following folks my Top 20 favorites:
Linda Ronstadt- probably close to a hundred CDs. Patty Loveless- entire collection Emmylou Harris- everything through Wrecking Ball, some since Bonnie Raitt- everything Rosanne Cash- everything Southern Culture on the Skids- everything Los Straitjackets- most all Kinky Friedman Tiny Tim- 8 CDs + the box set Buffy Sainte-Marie Joan Baez Asleep at the Wheel Skeeter Davis Wanda Jackson Maria Muldaur Johnny Cash -- getting that new box set for Christmas no doubt puts him at the top of the list for most different titles owned. Jann Browne Elizabeth Cook Jackson Browne John Mellencamp
One of these artists, Wanda Jackson, is getting a lot of accolades and attention from the critics late in life. I've liked her all my life, starting about 6 years old. To me it is strange that she is now treated like a god while someone of greater talent like Linda Ronstadt is ignored. It's like there is a complete forgiveness/ ignorance of the many many subpar albums Wanda Jackson released in her career. Though I'm a lifelong fan, her "misses" far outnumber her "targets."
Anyone else care to share their own personal list?

I like your list Rob, but Linda (probably) accused you of having poor taste!

I like your list Rob, but Linda (probably) accused you of having poor taste! Linda will always reign supreme in my book even if she never recorded a song.

I would even welcome the opportunity for Linda to criticize my taste in person!

I've got the complete Beatles on my ipod, which I usually listen to in the car. I get a lot of complaints from friends about too much Beatles, more than too much Linda. But when I look at my CD shelves, I only have three Beatles CDs: Help Rubber Soul Revolver I gotta lot of Sam Cooke too, just not many CDs. Great singer! Loretta Lynn- probably got about 30 or more LPs, but her best early albums have never been released on CD.

Besides Linda, here's some else of what I've got:
Eagles (everything except for Hell Freezes Over)
Tift Merritt (all six of hers to date; best female singer so far in the 21st century [IMHO])
John Williams CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND E.T.: THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK A.I.: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE MINORITY REPORT CATCH ME IF YOU CAN SCHINDLER'S LIST SAVING PRIVATE RYAN THE TERMINAL MUNICH LINCOLN WAR HORSE WAR OF THE WORLDS JFK INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY
Kathleen Edwards (all of hers to date)
Caitlin Rose (OWN SIDE NOW)
Elvis Presley 1968 NBC SPECIAL FROM ELVIS IN MEMPHIS/BACK IN MEMPHIS [2-CD set])
As should be obvious to all, I am extremely "unhip." (LOL)

CD collection favorites - Seem to be a heavy SoCal leanings in the list - surprised that RonstadtFanAZ has the most varied from the 70s - How about the huge variation in 70s music. After Linda and Neil Young and the CSNY/derivatives, I have most of Little Feat, Bruce Springsteen, Chicago, YES, Led Zeppelin, ELP, Sonny Landreth (all of Beatles, Paul Simon, Simon & Garfunkle, and Genesis thanks to Box Sets). How about Fusion - I have all of Return to Forever, most of Weather Report, lots of Stanley Clarke, Al Di Meola, Jeff Beck...The list goes on and on. A lot depends on what you can buy CDs for also. I'd love more Zappa, but they are never less than $12++.

Forget to mention Skeeter Davis on Hee Haw this week. It's on RFD right now, will be rebroadcast Monday AM sometime.

Forget to mention Skeeter Davis on Hee Haw this week. It's on RFD right now, will be rebroadcast Monday AM sometime. My DVR is set to automatically record any program that has the word SKEETER or the word RONSTADT in its description, so that should be ready for viewing. Skeeter Davis turns up far more often than Linda Ronstadt. And I get a lot of episodes of some cartoon that has a character named Skeeter but I delete those immediately. The last Ronstadt that it recorded was also an episode of HEE HAW.

I probably should have added Eva Cassidy to my list as like Joey, she is a real favorite but they haven't released many albums/cds. Darn, forgot BeeGees and Monkees too!

Y'all have to watch that episode of Hee Haw. Pat Boone did a most inappropriate performance of a song called "Sugar Lips." And he was dressed Hee-Haw-ridiculous to boot. I can't believe one of his fans hasn't uploaded it to youtube.
