Spring is here, I hear. Happened to be listening to my own music on shuffle and "Spring Is Here" by Frank Sinatra came on. I remembered that was one of the tracks on "Frank Sinatra Sings Only for the Lonely," which Linda has said she listened to while she was commuting to the set for the film of "The Pirates of Penzance." It got me to wondering if "Spring Is Here" might have been a track that she considered for any of the three Nelson Riddle collaborations.
Here is the Track Listing for "Frank Sinatra Sings Only for the Lonely" --
1. "Only the Lonely"
2. "Angel Eyes"
3. "What's New?"
4. "It's a Lonesome Old Town"
5. "Willow Weep for Me"
6. "Goodbye"
7. "Blues in the Night"
8. "Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out to Dry"
9. "Ebb Tide"
10. "Spring is Here"
11. "Gone with the Wind"
12. "One for My Baby (and One More for the Road)"
1987 CD bonus tracks
13. "Sleep Warm"
14. "Where or When"
Other songs on "What's New?" that Sinatra also recorded (on other albums) include "I've Got a Crush on You"; "Someone To Watch Over Me," and "I Don't Stand a Ghost of a Chance With You."
I know some frequent contributors here to this Forum are of the belief that Linda likely didn't record a lot of other songs that didn't wind up on her albums, meaning that she had her mind made up and she went in and recorded the tracks she wanted to sing/record. End of story. So those of us who like to believe that perhaps one day we might see unreleased tracks are going to have face facts that there are NO unreleased tracks, or perhaps one or two in the vaults that Linda likely never wants released.
Here are a few versions of some of these songs --
