The song I was thinking about that has not been recorded by anyone else- It's About Time- from the Hand Sown album. I could not find another version so I wrote the writer/producer and he said no one else had ever recorded the song.
I can't think of another version of The Long Way Around either.
Apologies for hijacking the original intent of this thread with my offhand remark! I suppose this discussion should properly be a separate thread.

Alyn, another problem with vinyl is that it is just so heavy. I heard a crash last night. I had one of those cheaply made shelving units from Office Depot that have shelves held into place by pegs in tiny holes. The pegs failed and one shelf of vinyl records crashed to the floor. My first thought was that a cat had caused the crash and I was fearful the cat was under that pile of records. But no, it was peg failure. Luckily, no records were seriously damaged. wow... that really was a landslide, well done to the cat for being elsewhere. Back when records were the only choice I did move house quite a lot and the upheaval of boxes of albums and the fact they were so precious to me and being fragile was always a worry.... on reflection the only upside of records were the covers which could be magnificent. And this could be 'Confession Time' but in my record buying days I took a punt on Hasten Down The wind because I feel in love with the cover - what man couldn't?? :-) I was chiefly a heavy rock fan but was beginning to branch out my taste and felt a little country could be the thing for me, and the cover swung the decision.

I agree alyn, it should be vinyl and CD, or at least a download code. I don't like when record companies make it a forced choice. It's the flipside of the late '80s-early '90s when new albums were coming out only on CD. Not everyone wanted CDs then and not everyone wants vinyl now. I appreciate vinyl primarily for the artwork and notes (which are too often truncated or omitted entirely on the CD version). I have a small vinyl collection but every single one of them is an album that I have on CD and have imported to iTunes (Apple Lossless, apparently the closest-to-CD format) for my iPod. I know that vinyl grade today is generally a vast improvement over the potato chips that many labels were releasing in the '70s-'80s but I have no interest in returning to the ticks-pops-skips that too many times made buying new albums such a miserable experience back then. Recalling Lou Ann Barton's first album, which I bought and returned at least three times in different stores. I never did get a copy that didn't skip. Yeah I do recall many albums that I just had to listen to knowing a pop or a skip was coming up every time and that was far from ideal, but back then there were no alternatives, and one just put up with it. And - absolutely - it should be both CD and Vinyl - I know to the record company that means more expenditure but surely they would be pleasing more people who would certainly buy, rather than alienating them and spreading an awful lot of disgruntlement.

Quote by Partridge (February 20, 2024):
It was indeed the guitar solo part on "You're No Good" that Linda initially had an issue with, in that it sounded too close to the Beatles to her ears (which Peter Asher admitted was true to an extent). She did, of course, have a change of heart after hearing it again, and didn't seem to mind.

Yes, she said the YNG solo sounded like the Beatles. I always remember thinking I don't hear the Beatles but I thought Linda had more musically refined ears.

Checked 3 local places for the box. 2 will get them. The closest one is getting two of them. The other is in NH but, if I need to, I can order it Sunday am first thing. See what happens. Would still like to discuss our collections. Rich

The Second Disc includes this in its Record Store Day write-up: theseconddisc.com/2024/04/20/the-second-discs-guide-to-record-store-day-2024-our-essential-picks/<snip> Linda Ronstadt, The Asylum Albums (1973-1977) (Rhino)
The 1970s' best female interpreter of rock and roll gets a box set matching her prestige: new LP pressings of Don't Cry Now (1973), Prisoner in Disguise (1975), Hasten Down the Wind (1976) and Simple Dreams (1977), which collectively feature great versions of "Desperado," "Tracks of My Tears," "Heat Wave," "That'll Be the Day," "It's So Easy," "Blue Bayou" and "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me" - a veritable bonanza of Linda Ronstadt in the studio. One could only wish for a CD edition to match, the way Rhino is doing with their Dwight Yoakam box set. They're all pressed on black vinyl in replica jackets; all but Don't Cry Now are in gatefolds, and the cover of Prisoner in Disguise has the artist's name and title embossed. The four albums are housed in a slipcase.<snip>

I got mine.....I got there late and there was a line but not a big deal. I guess someone bought the other one because there was only one there. There was a guy flipping through the bin it was in and I just reached by him saying "That's mine!"...it was $105!

I already have all these albums on vinyl, so I see no need to get the Box Set.
Hope y'all are able to snag it, if you're so inclined!

I get it....PoP803..... It's true that we all have the albums....and I don't even play vinyl myself these days..and I have no intention of even opening it..it's the collecting thing for me..so when these items come out it's on "auto-buy"... Linda and the Beatles are both that way here...even though the Beatles stuff has rules because I gave up trying to get it all and I pretty much focus only on original 60's American stuff...We have been buying the remaster sets too of course....I actually got into collecting Linda because of them. In the mid 70's..as now...the Beatles collecting was slow and expensive. I was a big Linda fan but not a collector...so Sue suggested that I start collecting her.(The quote was "Why don't you collect your girlfriend!") She was cheaper and easier to collect overall...and it turned into a great adventure! I wish my Beatles collection was as good as my Linda collection.. I love talking about collecting in general Rich

Yes, I get it Beatle!! As I’ve gotten older, I still cherish my Linda collection, all the autographs, and memories but I’m at a different phase of life. I’m eternally grateful for meeting Linda and all the wonderful days as a “Pirates Groupie.” But, I have other interests and pursuits now, so I’m no longer that concerned with acquiring memorabilia. That said, I enjoy the conversations on this forum and appreciate the level of loyalty and knowledge that everyone has!

I checked with Bullmoose Records in NH-Me and they said "limited quantities".....https://www.bullmoose.com/p/37002092/linda-ronstadt-the-asylum-albums-1973-1977-rsd-exclusive-ltd-3500-usa-4lp..... They are a great store. We go there during our vacation and I always wind up buying something there.

For anyone who has the box—how is the quality of the vinyl? Yes, please could someone who purchased, opened, and listened let us know? Also, does Don’t Cry Now have the beige cardboard album insert with Linda singing in the studio, or did that get reproduced on flimsy paper or simply left out?

Quote by rick:
A nice write-up there, although they make the goof of saying that Linda recorded "The Tears Of A Clown", when it was really "The Tracks Of My Tears". And I kind of have to disagree that Linda's version of the latter was "Nashville Soul". But that's a minor quibble.
Incidentally, I tried to get into the world-famous Canterbury Records store here in Pasadena for last Saturday's Record Store Day to see about this collection, but I couldn't. The line out the store was about fifty to a hundred people deep.

In the "Bro" article, they talk of songs on HLAW and say that the 4 album set is from DCN to HDTW. They really got it wrong. eddiejinfl
