4 LP box set featuring all of Linda's '70s Asylum albums. The first album, Don't Cry Now, celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2023. Don't Cry Now (1973) Prisoner In Disguise (1975) Hasten Down The Wind (1976) Simple Dreams (1977) This is a RSD Exclusive Release - says 3500 copies are being printed. Doesn't appear to have any extras - just a nice boxed set. I'm in, of course!

Good cover, nice to see an outtake (David Alexander—see Circus cover story October 27, 1977), and to see Linda getting some rare RSD attention, but they should have gone up through Mad Love and wrapped up her “imperial phase” (to quote the Pet Shop Boys). Even if Rhino thought Mad Love didn’t fit stylistically with the other albums (I don’t agree), at least Living in the USA.

Interesting - the Rhino site says 5,000 copies are being printed worldwide, but the RSD site says 3,500 - must be US only I suppose.
I LOVE the cover pic - classic peak Linda. I wish there were some extras like a booklet, rarities (Hey I can dream) or at least colored vinyl, but I love box sets so this is a must for me.

I wonder if this is the first of several, since they put the specific years in the title. Next one could be LITUSA through Get Closer, then a Nelson Riddle set, etc. Her catalog is so diverse it's ripe for compilations of different periods. Now if they would just find more rarities, live stuff...like I said, I can dream!

I think I will wait. PID, HDTW, and Don’t Cry Now will all be rereleased again soon, most likely better than this. I will wait. Yeah, right….

Very cool cover to add to the 70s vibe. I would like a postcard of that photo, since I have no more room for a 4-LP Box Set!
FYI-Record Store Day was conceived in 2007 at a gathering of independent record store owners and employees as a way to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding nearly 1400 independently-owned record stores in the US and thousands of similar stores internationally. The first Record Store Day took place on April 19, 2008. Today, Record Store Day is celebrated at independently-owned brick-and-mortar record stores around the world

I have to carefully read through all the post on this release but I WANT one. LOL The cover is unbelievably beautiful and it a superb design. I agree that LITUSA should have been included as it was her third number one album and it was her last 70's release. It always seems that some of her recent year releases always has some kind of questionable judgment re: included and unincluded songs etc. Like no bonus track/s for the 40th anniversary of SD and so on. It is a no brainer, imo, that LITUSA should be included. Thanks for everybody's feedback and info. eddiejinfl

It's a really nice piece but it's pricey. My dealer found it priced at 124 pounds on some foreign site. I of course HAVE to have one! Hear my wife's eyes roll!.. ....Linda and the Beatles are on "auto-buy" here!...maybe we can start a thread about collecting her stuff?...Rich B

Hmm... Record Store Day... I've said my piece here in General Music Discussion about Thanks I'll Eat It Here being an RSD vinyl release, an album of extra tracks... there seems to be information about CD releases only being considered if Vinyl Sales warrant it... and that is putting the cart before the horse in my opinion, or leaving the cart behind. After the excellent CD Deluxe re-issues of Sailin' Shoes and Dixie Chicken, a whole lot of Little Feat fans are pissed off with Thanks, I'll Eat It Here being only on vinyl and probably no CD release. IMO it's putting Vinyl Snobbery first. I'm sure more people would buy Linda's Asylum Years as a Deluxe CD set rather than Vinyl.

I agree alyn, it should be vinyl and CD, or at least a download code. I don't like when record companies make it a forced choice. It's the flipside of the late '80s-early '90s when new albums were coming out only on CD. Not everyone wanted CDs then and not everyone wants vinyl now. I appreciate vinyl primarily for the artwork and notes (which are too often truncated or omitted entirely on the CD version). I have a small vinyl collection but every single one of them is an album that I have on CD and have imported to iTunes (Apple Lossless, apparently the closest-to-CD format) for my iPod. I know that vinyl grade today is generally a vast improvement over the potato chips that many labels were releasing in the '70s-'80s but I have no interest in returning to the ticks-pops-skips that too many times made buying new albums such a miserable experience back then. Recalling Lou Ann Barton's first album, which I bought and returned at least three times in different stores. I never did get a copy that didn't skip.

Not sure if this video about Asylum was already posted. Maslov talks quite a bit about Linda's albums starting at about 34 minutes.

He refers to everything Linda sings as being a cover. That is not true. She recorded many songs in her career that she was the first person to bring to record. If the songwriter later records the song, that does not convert Linda's to a cover version. She recorded Karla Bonoff songs a year before Karla recorded them on her own album. And if Linda had not recorded the songs, chances are that Karla would not have had that major label deal. She recorded Faithless Love a year before J D Souther released his own recording. (Can you name any song that Linda recorded that has never been released, before or since, by any other artist?} She recorded Heart Like a Wheel the year before the McGarrigles released their first album, and chances are... (However, Heart Like a Wheel had been previously released in 1972 by McKendree Spring.)
Also, I think his memory failed him. He relates a story about Linda not liking Andrew Gold's guitar work on When Will I Be Loved. I don't recall ever hearing that. But I could be wrong. I think he is referring to the guitar extro that Gould added to You're No Good.

Alyn, another problem with vinyl is that it is just so heavy. I heard a crash last night. I had one of those cheaply made shelving units from Office Depot that have shelves held into place by pegs in tiny holes. The pegs failed and one shelf of vinyl records crashed to the floor. My first thought was that a cat had caused the crash and I was fearful the cat was under that pile of records. But no, it was peg failure. Luckily, no records were seriously damaged.

“Can you name any song that Linda recorded that has never been released, before or since, by any other artist?” I’ll take a shot—I’m not aware of any other recordings of Waddy Wachtel’s “Maybe I’m Right,” including by Waddy.

Good thinking of songs my friends. I think "Don't Cry Now" may be one. I don't know for sure but for some reason I agree with memac's suggestion.
Has anybody else recorded "Lo Siento Mi Vida" eddiejinfl

JD sang “Don’t Cry Now” on “Black Rose: Live At the Troubadour” (April 8, 1976). Appears to be an unofficial release/bootleg, although it’s on Amazon UK and Apple Music.

Quote by eddiejinnj:
From 2021, a cover of said song by The Texicana Mamas, to wit Patricia Vonne, Stephanie Urbina Jones, and Tish Hinojosa (she wrote "Adonde Voy", which Linda covered on her album Winter Light):
