I think that segment sort of underlined the pros and cons of holiday music. Yes, it is a big business, for all the four weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas that many people get exposed to it. But one of our stations here in L.A., KOST 103.5 FM, started in on this on November 9th, two weeks before everyone else even dropped even one Christmas song into their playlists; and they went all-Christmas until late in the day yesterday. This is way beyond Excessive (IMHO).
I'd also point out (maybe for the thousandth time) that, while it is nice that Linda does have her own Internet radio station, in the twenty-three years since she put out her Christmas album, I have only heard one single track from that album, specifically her version of "I'll Be Home For Christmas", ever played on over-the-air radio here in Los Angeles...and it was during the 2015 holiday season. That is the one and only time anything from A Merry Little Christmas ever got any airplay. Even her version of "River" never got any airplay that I know of (though I heard Sarah McLachlan's version of said song several times during this holiday season). Granted, Linda was not very happy with the way the sequencing of the songs went originally (front-loaded with Christmas pop standards, back-loaded with the sacred/choral ones); but it is what it is.
I have my own particular Christmas playlist that I decided to listen to on YouTube, and it included several of the songs that Linda recorded (including "River"); but it also included tracks that Elvis recorded for both of his Christmas albums (1957 and 1971), including "Santa Claus Is Back In Town" and "Merry Christmas Baby", as well as the Beach Boys ("Little St. Nick": "The Man With All The Toys"), Linda's favorite in-house desperadoes The Eagles ("Please Come Home For Christmas"); the Ventures ("Sleigh Ride"; "Snowflakes", both from their 1965 X-Mas instrumental album); Aaron Neville (his take on "Please Come Home For CHristmas", and his and Linda's take on "Ave Maria"); and Kelly Clarkson ("Underneath The Tree"). It also included this gorgeous bit of "smooth jazz" from David Sanborn:
Full disclosure: My playlist did not include Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You".

Our station 98.1 in Madison Wisconsin played several cuts from A Merry Little Christmas. I don’t listen to the station much and I caught them playing her several times this season. This station plays Linda more than most and that’s been the case for twenty years I’ve listened to the station.
