With the new Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductions this week, I looked up Pat Benatar (2022 class) and found this. Ms. Pat has come up in the Linda forum in several threads but I don't recall seeing this one. She quotes/paraphrases Linda at about the 9:00 mark--"If you're doing what you do to win prizes, you're in trouble." I love that at the moment of her own induction, she thought to cite Linda. For the historians/statisticians among us, Pat’s first album “In the Heat of the Night” peaked at #12 on the Billboard album chart the week that “Mad Love” debuted at #5 (March 15, 1980).

It certainly was a friendly gesture on Pat's part to acknowledge Linda in this way. Both were always clearly deserving of the accolades they got simply because it was the music that they loved making and the work they loved doing. The fame, the riches, the accolades, and all the rest were the icing on the cake.
While we can legitimately beef about why it took so long for either Linda or Pat to get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, at least they got there. But far too many artists these days think that this is all about the prizes and the glitz--and it really isn't.

Linda has said “competition is for race horses” so I know she never subscribed to rivalries or receiving awards. She’s been so humble about her recent honors, but I hope she knows they’re well-deserved on some level.

She left a Grammy Award in a cab, or did I dream that? I thought I read that in an interview with her at some point.

On her Grammys, she said in the Los Angeles Times (September 27, 2013): “I don’t know where they are. The first one I left in the back seat of a rental car. I’d rented a car to go to the show, and tossed it in the back when I left. I forgot about it and left it there in the back seat.”

I wonder what happened to that Grammy? I know I would have given it back though of course I would want it for my own. eddiejinnj
