YIPE!!!!!
Not many directors can do gritty action films anymore, but that's what Friedkin did with the Oscar-winning The French Connection in 1971, with one of the most insanely stomach-turning car chase sequences in history (and, of course, Gene Hackman's Oscar-winning role of Popeye Doyle). And as for The Exorcist, still one of the great horror films of all times (so long as you avoid pea soup, that is [LOL]), well, to paraphrase the famous Flip Wilson line, "the Devil made him do it".
Mr. Friedkin will definitely be missed, especially among his colleagues in the directors community.
