In debbiekruger.com/writer/freelance/ronstadt_transcript.html, Linda said: "Oh man, I think she is the voice of the century. I really do. I just think, I just don't think there is anybody that can quite do what she does in that way that she does it. I haven't listened to her albums that much. I think 'Nothing Compares To You' is one of the great pop vocals of all time, though. If I had to rate vocals in the second half of the century, Sinead's would be one or two, I think. She's just great. She's out there, I saw her sing one time and I was just so blown away I couldn't even believe it. I mean she certainly is... I put her down as a person with panic attacks, that's what I figure, that she's very scared, and I think maturity will help her, because she's a great singer, just one of the best singers I've ever heard. And she can write, too, I think. She writes pretty well. Emmy and I are going to do one of her songs on this new record." (Linda and Emmylou recorded Sinead's "This Is to Mother You" on Western Wall.)

Thanks, Rob, for the post. I am not 100% that I have heard Sinead's version of "This Is To Mother You"; assuming she recorded it. Will have to give a listen to. Such a shame. She was so young. My maternal grandfather and my mother's youngest sister, his daughter, died at 56. Again, such a shame.

Yes, "This Is to Mother You" is on Sinead's 1997 EP Gospel Oak. Jon Pareles wrote this today in the NY Times (“Ten Essential Songs by Sinead O’Connor”): “O’Connor promises to ‘do what your own mother didn’t do’ in a song that radiates kindliness and womanly strength. It’s a folky, Celtic-tinged lullaby that promises to end a dark back story, to release someone — perhaps a lover, as the video suggests — from ‘All the pain that you have known/All the violence in your soul.’ It’s pure unselfish comfort.”

Linda and Emmylou did artisitic justice to Sinead's song. I watched Sinead's official video and the arrangement is just like on "WW". I liked that she was in bed with her husband (you assume since he has a ring on) and she is singing to him about being mothered. Very touching video. It seemed to end more quickly than the "WW" version but maybe I am not remembering correctly. All have a great Sunday!!! eddiejinnj
