I bought a various artist Christmas CD in the used bins- various artists- Maria Muldaur, Rosemary Clooney, others. I don't hear the singer that is identified as belonging to this song: dl.dropbox.com/u/54925153/What%20Child%20is%20This.mp3Anyone who has time, take a listen and tell me who this is. Thanks.

Sounds very much like Crystal Gayle to me.

That is what my ears also told me. I could not hear any Kim Carnes in that song.

Are any of the songs/singers mis-matched on the CD? Does Crystal Gayle also sing "Hallelujah"? Looks like a nice mix of artists. Marilyn McCoo is currently on tour with "The Colors of Christmas" with her husband Billy Davis (both formerly of The Fifth Dimension), Peabo Bryson, James ("Somewhere Out There" w/ Linda) Ingram and Stephanie Mills.

I thought it was obviously Crystal Gayle. All the other artists are correctly identified. I'm sure there are some Kim Carnes fans that bought this and were not pleased.
In addition to this, I picked up CDs of Warren Zevon Black Luck Streak in Dancing School, Suzy Boggus Moment of Truth, Linda Ronstadt For Sentimental Reasons (my disc was ruined in an accident). Lyle Lovett I Love Everybody, and a pristine vinyl copy of Trio, all for only 20 bucks- then headed out to see John Waters Christmas at the Variety Playhouse.

How was "John Waters' Christmas"?
It was about one and a half hours of John Waters talking non-stop about a wide gamut of subjects, Christmas-related.
Irreverent, sometimes vulgar and tasteless. He followed up with a Q&A from the audience.
I wish I had made a few notes.... there were several things he mentioned I wanted to research further and at the moment I can't remember a single one. I'm sure I'll have flashbacks in the future though.

Neither one of those folks was John Waters. What the heck was that?
The only thing on the stage other than John Waters was a four-legged stool with a glass of water. It was all talk, no skits.
I am beginning to recall some discussions of Johnny Mathis and Justin Beiber. Some stories of his work in the Baltimore schools.

Yes! That's John Waters. I suppose he is best know as the writer of Hairspray. and Serial Mom. The video above was apparently some sort of talent contest that preceded John's monologue at the San Fran appearance that year. Check out this Public Service Announcement for No Smoking:

dianna -- It occurred to me that, being younger, you probably don't remember the days of midnight movies at the art houses. "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," "The Harder They Come" and.... John Waters' "Pink Flamingos" were all staples on the midnight shows on Saturday nights at theaters like the Nuart in West Los Angeles and at theaters in Greenwich Village and in a lot of college towns across the U.S. Here is the trailer for "Pink Flamingos" from the early 1970s with a newer introduction from John Waters' himself -- As a confused kid in high school in the early 70s, I still remember the one guy who says, "This is the future ... of ... city ... living."
