From her new album Sweet Western Sound (out tomorrow), here is Tanya Tucker with her heartfelt "Letter To Linda":
Even if Tanya's voice is weathered now from where it had been at her various apexes in the 70's, 80's, and 90's, this is still a very touching tribute to the Queen of Country-Rock, done in a very straightforward California country-rock style (IMHO).
Yes indeed, as Tanya sings, Linda already stole the show.

“Heartfelt” sums it up. Just beautiful.

Wow, an incredibly personal tribute. If I saw it live, I would probably be a mess. Kudos to Tanya. Thanks, Erik, so much for posting. eddiejinnj

Are we getting close to an album with songs totally or partially about Linda? Any others?
Tanya's I collect hearts - Hoyt Axton African Skies - Paul Simon Linda Ronstadt - AJJ You're Only Lonely - JD Souther (I know he doesn't claim it but ...)

Very touching tribute. I wonder how Linda will react when she hears it.

Very Nice tribute. I wasn't aware how much of a fan Tanya is of Linda. I know from Linda's documentary, there was clip of Tanya and Teddy Pendergrass giving an award to Linda at the 1979 AMA's So this is a pleasant surprise. Today while listening to Sirius Radio 80's countdown with D.J. Nina Blackwood.. Nina said, this next female artist is one of my favorite singers and she sings many different styles.... Linda Ronstadt.. Hurt so Bad.. As I've mentioned before I'm sure many or most of the female pop and country singers who came up after Linda are her fans and very much inspired.

Quote by Dianna:
Again, I think it goes back to the fact that the media bloviates, rants, and raves about T-Swift, Queen Bey, Rihanna, and Madonna, who love to see their names splashed all over social media; but Linda has had the far greater multi-generational impact on female artists, and it's something that hardly ever gets discussed by them. A lot of it, of course, has to do with the fact that Linda is very modest and doesn't necessarily want to talk about it; but still it is a shame her impact doesn't get the attention it warrants (IMHO).

From what I have read, the song "Letter To Linda" came about partly as the result of Tanya preparing to do a concert at The Troubadour in 2019, and she had heard Linda's version of "Desperado" over the club's public address system.
As Dianna mentions, it was Tanya and R&B legend Teddy Pendergrass who gave Linda an award at the 1979 AMA's, and that is where she and Linda had that one face-to-face meeting that Tanya sings about in the song. Linda likely no longer remembers that particular meeting, but here's hoping that Tanya can make a trip up to the Bay Area and see Linda one more time.

I don't think that Linda and Tanya met at the 1979 American Music Awards--Linda apparently wasn't there, Tanya accepted for her:

Yes, that was my mistake. They met their one time (so far) in Music City sometime in the late 70's or early 80's.

I remember that she was not at a number of awards show when she won. I didn't catch her when she won for the Grammy HDTW and that was right after I "discovered" her in Dec 1976 based on her GH TV ads. I went out and bought it at Sam Goody in Monmouth Mall and the rest is history. eddiejinnj

Not normally an emotional person but this song almost did me in.
Linda has been a musical part of my life for close to 50 years. She definitely owns a piece of my heart.
Well done Tanya!!

Quote by musedeva re. Tanya + Brandi Carlile:
With respect to Brandi, it should be noted that, when she was starting out two decades ago, she sometimes appeared onstage in a Boy Scout uniform. Whether or not this was any kind of homage to the famous uniform that Linda wore onstage during her Simple Dreams tour in 1977 is anyone's guess, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was.
As for Tanya--yes, she's lived an interesting life; and she'll be the first to tell you it has sometimes been quite dissolute and even very dangerous at times. Fortunately, those days are long since past for her.
I would suspect that at least some of Tanya's approach to doing things was inspired by Linda's West Coast approach to country, done from a rock angle, even if for the most part she musically stayed either in Texas or in Nashville. She co-wrote "Letter To Linda", by the way, with co-producer Shooter Jennings (son of Waylon, a.k.a. "A Man Called Hoss")
