The sports world, especially when it comes to sports broadcasting overall and L.A. in particular, has lost a legend. Vin Scully, the great Dodgers' radio and TV broadcaster, has passed away at the age of 94 at his home in Hidden Hills, in the western San Fernando Valley: www.cnn.com/2022/08/02/sport/vin-scully-obit/index.html

For those who grew up here, Vin Scully's voice is an indelible Los Angeles memory.
A few memories. My Dad didn't like the Dodgers dating back to when they were a Brooklyn team. So even though we lived in L.A., my Dad rooted for the San Francisco Giants. But he like Vin Scully. Back in the day, Vin Scully was partnered with a man by the name of Jerry Doggett. In radio days, they used to alternate calling the play-by-play of the innings. My Dad cussed practically the whole time that Vin Scully was not calling the games.
In the 1960s, transistor radios were the thing. And, being in a Catholic school without air conditioning, when it would get really hot, the sisters would let me put on the baseball game on my transistor radio so we could listen to Vin Scully call the game.
In this crazy world, he seems like one of the few people left that was beloved without partisanship.
