I echo your sentiments, Eddie, and a special rub of the lucky rabbit's foot for you in NJ.
(I am waiting to see how long and who blames Sandy on gays. Every natural disaster is their fault! My money's on Pat Robertson who will no doubt drop God's wrath squarely on New York's and other states' approval and/or consideration of marriage equality. It's simply too irresistible!)

I appreciate the message (being in NJ and in the eye of things myself)... I did move it to the general discussion area to alleviate any concern that this involved Linda....

I really hope it isn't as catastrophic as the forecasters say it'll be, and I know they hope they're wrong too. This could be extremely crippling if it pans out.

I had to cut my vacation to Washington DC short and came home today. They're supposed to be hit hard tomorrow and then it will make its way down towards me. I'm just hoping it won't be as bad as that horrible Derecho! Most of us didn't have lights for a week and so many houses were destroyed and streets impassible because of fallen power lines and trees.

thanks for all the well wishes. it was a lot of work prepping the property since we have so much stuff around. recently, from a storm like 2 weeks ago we had a tree on preserved county property behind us fall on the shed and pool. since then a neighbor took down a tree in his yard. so hopefully mother nature has taken her share of trees here and no others fall. i checked the couple close to the property line and they seem very healthy. everyone stay dry and b safe!!!! eddiejinnj

Stay safe and hoping for the best. The one good thing about this is Obama will handle this well, and though it will keep many from voting, Obama will benefit from this IMO.

Obviously, the concerns of the eastern seaboard are paramount at this time.
Long-term, however, I think what this combination of Sandy and that big low coming out of Canada and colliding with it over the mid-Atlantic region is showing is the effects of climate change and global warming on the world in general, and America in particular.

Well, I lost the bet on Robertson, but my prognostication on the blame was on the money: "The Eastern seaboard may have yet to experience the full wrath of Hurricane Sandy, but one right-wing Christian preacher is already pointing the finger at the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. In a wordy and occasionally rambling blog on his website, chaplain John McTernan seems to link Hurricane Sandy (and a number of other recent weather-related trends and natural disasters) on LGBT people and President Barack Obama's recent backing of marriage equality." www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/29/hurricane-sandy-gays-same-sex-marriage-obama-romney_n_2038781.html?utm_hp_ref=gay-voicesAnd, of course, the good-hearted folks at Westboro Baptist Church couldn't wait to thank God for the storm: www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/29/westboro-baptist-church-hurricane-sandy-east-coast_n_2039564.html?utm_hp_ref=gay-voices&ir=Gay%20VoicesSo I suppose I must apologize to everyone experiencing the very real terror of Sandy. But seriously, even though we've never met, I'm thinking of you, Eddie. Keep us apprised of your situation when you can.

Well somebody had to say it. Jeez, these religious wing nuts are so damned predictable.

I know, Erik. I can't predict much, but I could foresee that!
Although I'd like to ask these people something: If God is so distraught over marriage equality, why can't he/she being, well, God, deliver a drone-like, surgical strike against those states who have offended him/her?
Seems as if he/she is making a pretty general sweep of things with Sandy, indiscriminately smoting those for and against, states as well as individuals, voting adults as well as innocent children.
On another note, I am seriously concerned about Eddie, especially after having seen the latest Doppler radar of Sandy's landfall.

Amazing video footage from my neck of the woods:
I am amazed at all the breaches from the storm. My home town had two new inlets formed overnight. Amazing power of the ocean.
New Jersey:
I have relatives living here:

Is the 2nd video of long island.. I couldn't tell.. I would be scared living there, it's so pencil thin, with water surrounding it, or wherever that is. My friend who lives in long island described to me the water coming in and since I've never been to long island it was hard for me to imagine. I don't like that at all. I like the water but I prefer it on 1 side only.

You must always shower? From the NYC area east to my hometown (Moriches Bay Area) is a barrier island called Fire Island which is much of what is being shown. One side is the Ocean (with the big waves) and on the other side is the different Bays (calmer water) along the way which lead into the creeks/canals along the Long Island coast. This is all the Ocean side/south side of Long Island. Long Island looks like a big fish actually. When I was a kid a bunch of us jumped into uncle Ernie's 1930's cabin cruiser (usually sat on the roof) an sailed down our creek into the bay and over to Fire Island which was the only way we could get there. He was 96 years old at the time (which somewhat worried my mother) but Ernie's niece Margaret (79 yo) was typically there to help out..ha... Great place to grow up. We usually hit ebb tide on the way home each day which is my favorite time of the day and also the name of a song I always wished Linda would have recorded. Many have recorded it and all are quite good. My current life in the desert couldn't be more different than my childhood is to me now.

I have been to upstate NY, which is very beautiful in the autumn esp, nothing beats new england in the fall IMO. It's a lot like here but we have pine trees so we don't get the color changes like NE does. The desert is very different. What I don't like are the reptiles (not your republican ones lol) even in calif we have fence lizards (many) and rattlers in the hills. That is one thing I do not miss.. lizards. It sounds like you miss NY Rob, would you ever move back there. I will say, from what I saw of it, very beautiful indeed.

I will never go through the moving experience again plus there are too many animals scattered all over the valley that depend on me for their survival and well being. If I won the lottery and could cover all my bases I would consider it but I think I would prefer California, Mexico or a place populated by like-minded majorities and moderate weather. I hate the cold. I wouldn't mind visiting my hometown or spending the last year of my life there. It may be under water by then.
I love the little lizards and reptiles. I just don't like their politics.

I love the little lizards and reptiles. I just don't like their politics. I took this photo late last summer. They are little tree frogs and are about the size of a quarter. Some reason, I found this one cute, his color is more appealing to me than the prehistoric grey, his face almost looks painted.

If it is, he traveled far.. ha ha.. I took this one here in my yard in oregon. Never seen one like this in ca, at least not in so ca. I've only seen the grey or brown ones in ca.. kind of creepy and much bigger. These are small yet very loud. I enjoy their unique look.
