Adios. My favorite Linda Ronstadt song. Except sometimes it might be Hobo's Meditation or The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.
This guy is a superfan. Maybe he is a member of this forum.
I could not do reaction videos. I am too self-conscious and I hate being on camera.

Likewise, Tony. I would be like humina humina (Honeymooners reference). He really did get into the Adios song and looked so moved it made me start to get misty. eddiejinnj

one Voice Teacher's Reaction (strange, she has limited it so it must be watched on YouTube. If you click "Watch on YouTube" it should play for you) -- So, I watched this. Granted, the voice teacher who posted this is pretty young. She doesn't know where the performance of "Different Drum" is from. She didn't know that Linda did "Pirates of Penzance" until she saw the documentary. The songs covered are: "Different Drum" "You're No Good" "Skylark" "Poor Wand'ring One" "La Charreada" This voice teacher admits that she is a "fan girl," but then at about 10 minutes and 12 seconds in to the video, she says, Linda "didn't use agility in her pop music" -- really?

To put it mildly, I'm not sure where this "fan girl" is coming from if she's going to make so hopped-up a statement like that. Is she not aware that (unless you count her mariachi/ranchera albums??) the forms that Linda is best known for essaying, like rock, folk, and C&W, don't call for vocal histrionics?

I guess when I heard "agility," I didn't think of melisma. If this "voice teacher" is a sorta/kinda/once-in-a-while maybe "fan" you would think she would have heard songs like "Easy for You To Say," "Blacksmith," "Bandit and a Heartbreaker," etc. (just a few examples) where Linda does not use melisma but she does exhibit incredible dexterity and range jumping from note to note. I wouldn't refer to that as melisma, but "agility" or "dexterity" (read: incredible technique and control).

I wouldn't refer to that as melisma, but "agility" or "dexterity" (read: incredible technique and control). I listened again and.. I think she did mean "melisma," At around 13:58 she's discussing Linda's performance as Mabel in Pirates and goes on to say, "This role requires a lot of agility (you heard those runs.)" Maybe it was a bad choice of wording. I think she meant well.. You can tell she admires Linda's talent.. She also went on to say that she wasn't alive yet when Linda did Pirates.. We're lucky, we got to see Linda in real time in her prime.. well, at least I did.. First time I saw Linda was in April or May of 1980 at the Forum in L.A. I'm sure other fans got to see her during her rise in the 60's and 70's (Wish I did.) The younger people, millennials, gen Z have a lot of catching up to do in terms of learning about Linda's career and her catalog I'm surprised they even know who she is.. lol.. I've been listening for 44 years and am still learning.

Perhaps she meant.. vocal melisma ?? So many of todays singers over do it.. I bet that is what she meant and I agree completely with you Dianna it’s way over done since Whitney and Mariah came along. Just because it can be done doesn’t mean it should be. It’s so tired IMO. I hear that crap and I turn it off ASAP! When female singers do it 99% of the time it’s like claws on a chalkboard to my ears.

I think they (Linda and the band) kick butt on this vid. The video poster should speak clearer and there was not much commentary. 4800

A YouTuber we've seen before, this time reaction to "Tumbling Dice" -- Somebody else sang this?? I think (hope) he was trying to be funny about the “somebody else” but with these reaction videos, you never know. Maybe it’s unfair to expect him to know that this was from the film “FM” (“she thinks nobody was looking”) but if you’re going to put a video out in the world, do your homework. As for “all the little rhyming things,” you mean like lyrics? Overall rating: Oy.
