hmm.. not surprised at Linda's continued inexplicable absence, but the new option of fans voting is hopeful.. let's jump on this!

I can side with Heart, Donna Summer, and certainly Randy Newman; and from a historical perspective, Albert King and the Meters. I'm not at all sure, however, about the others (even Rush), except for Public Enemy, which gets an absolute "Hell No!" from me.
The whole thing has long since become a sham; and until or unless they induct Linda and a whole lot of other influential womenfolk, that's the way it'll stay in my book.

It would've been nice if Donna Summer had been inducted while she was living. This is like the thrid or fourth time she has been nominatd for induction, which has me wondering if the R&RHoF is mirroring the Emmy awards in nominating a performer who won't win and becomes even more famous for not winning? Not really surprising on the list of nominees, although wasn't Joan Jett and the Blackhearts nominated last year? The RS webpage has them highlighted which I think is supposd to mean first time nominee but I'm pretty sure I remember they were nominated for 2012, maybe 2011. Alas, it's not surprising the fan favorite artists again are routinely ignored by the hall, although I think it's hysterical RS indicates the fans can vote on the ones who are nominated and it will count as one vote! As if that would make any difference as the majority of the nominees are not fan favorites. The only fan favorites I see on the list are Heart and Rush. Heart, like Donna Summer, has been nominated at least twice before and each time lost out. I don't expect anything to be different this time out for them. I rather wish they would extend that idea of letting the fans vote on a nominee to letting the fans nominate the ones they want to see in the hall and allow the top three to five vote getters to be inducted. Of course, such a vote would possibly allow those not personally liked by Jann Wenner and his crowd to be voted in. Wenner would probably look for a way to keep them from being nominated or keep them out if the fan base voted them in.

And this is the thing that drives fans of these artists, including us of course, crazy. The artists are the ones who make the music; the fans are the ones who buy the albums/CDs and who buy the concert tickets. These two entities, the artists and the fans, are the ones who create rock and roll history, and it is a history that is routinely ignored by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Politburo.

That history ignored by the R&RHoF Politburo because it's mostly made up of music critics and record industry people who think they are the ones who made up the rock and roll history. And it's all about their personal tastes in music rather than the tastes of the general public. I'd concede that there are probably some artists who don't belong in the R&RHoF but when you have some artists who are in the R&RHoF with questionable credentials, when someone from the R&RHoF tells me artist A belongs in the hall because they were rock and roll and influential and whatever other credentials they had to get them admitted (even though they were not rock and roll per se and you can't name other acts they influenced), but artist B doesn't belong because they're not rock (even though they were) or influential (even though some can come up with a mile long list of artists they influenced) and have all the other credentials, you know the R&RHoF is all about bullsh*t! Wonder how the R&RHoF would feel if they were handed an award for "Most Worthless Institution That Dares To Think It's Important?"

I am glad for those that were nominated that wish to be there but at this point that whole RRHOF is sort of meaningless given its history.
