You may not necessarily know his name, but you probably know his face, as he played the irritable chief inspector Charles Dreyfus opposite Peter Sellers' Inspector Clouseau in the Pink Panther movies. Famed Czech-born British actor Herbert Lom has passed away at the age of 95. More details here: www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-19745910

Part of the fun of the Pink Panther movies was watching Herbert Lom's losing battle with sanity as he tried to deal with the infamous Inspector Clouseau. 'Give me 10 men like Clouseau and I can destroy the world!'

One wonders how Lom kept a straight face in all those scenes with Sellers, who can be funny just standing there.
Another film Lom was in, where he also played a slightly unhinged character, was in the 1969 cult science fiction movie JOURNEY TO THE FAR SIDE OF THE SUN, a sort of 2001-lite from the creators of The Thunderbirds. It's not a great film, but it's an above-average one with rather good special effects (IMHO).
