At last night's (2/24/19) Oscars, Gustavo Dudamel and The Los Angeles Philharmonic played John Williams' "Leaving Home" while the "In Memoriam" segment occurred --

Yes, there were so many that left us in the period between last year's ceremony and this one that they didn't have nearly enough time to mention all of them (including Stanley Donen [SINGIN' IN THE RAIN; CHARADE], who passed away on Saturday).

Erik, I think Donen died after that montage had been completed and I imagine the live music was timed to fit that slot. Carol Channing, a former Oscar nominee, was also missing. The president of the Academy did say in his introduction that by no means was it a complete indicator of all who had passed.

I know. I'm just pointing out how hard it is for them to ever recognize all the people who pass away during a given year, given how many of them do indeed pass away.
