It is still by any stretch of the imagination one of the best known movie places (if not the best known) in all of Los Angeles because of all the films it has shown there, and the ones that are going to get a revival next month.
I actually remember going there on a school field trip in 1978 to see THE WIZ (the all-black musical version of THE WIZARD OF OZ), and being amazed at the bigness of the screen, not realizing, of course, what a history it had already accumulated. You have your stadium-seating multiplexes, you have films in 3-D and IMAX, and all that stuff; but to see big films on a big screen like the one at the Cinerama Dome is something that I can never forget.
